5 common reasons for poor user adoption
1. The school use the term ‘VLE’ excessively and indiscriminately.
• ‘We need a VLE!’
• Perhaps the most damaging word for Online learning as it is hugely misunderstood.

2. The School thinks that the purchase of a Learning Platform will cure world famine and global pandemic
• ‘It doesn’t work very well!’
• Over sell by Government of what technology could do.

3. The School spends hundreds of hours deciding which technology to buy and 0 hours asking the end user how they would like to use it.
• ‘Nobody is using it!’
• Teachers see a learning platform as a technology purchase and not a teaching and learning tool.

• ‘We are going to start small.’
• Really important to take people with you but without content why would you go to a website?

• It just isn't Web 2.0 enough!• I am worried about web 3.0…
• Those leading Online Learning are busy can procrastinate if things aren't cool enough.
5 things to do.1. Avoid use of words which alienate people.2. Get to grips with what the Learning
Platform can do and is good at.3. Talk to end users as much as possible
about design.4. Be ambitious and seek the quick wins.5. Use every last drop of the potential in your
learning platform.
