apply the false lashes you can

mascara alone can't provide. It

Choose Your False Lashes:

According to celebrity makeup

artist Kayleen McAdams there are

four different types of false lashes:

individual, cluster, full strip and

demi strip.

Individual Lashes and Cluster

Lashes:

"These lashes give most natural

look," "Individuals are great for

both volume and length but it

tend to take time to apply and

get right." On the other hand,

cluster lashes, give you the same

effect as individual lashes and can

be applied more easily and

quickly.

Full Strip Lashes:

"These lashes give you greatest

range of wear." "You can layer

the pairs for various effects, and

very easy to apply." If you want

to open up your eye or want to

have wide-set eyes, then look for

the lashes that are longer in

center.

For close-set eyes, look for the

strip lashes that are longer at the

outer corners it will make the

distance between your eyes look

wider.

Demi Strip Lashes:

Demi Strip or "half-size" lashes

have half the size of full strip

lashes. You can apply them on

outer half of your upper lash line

this adds lifts to your eyes and

adds flirty emphasis to outer

corners of your eyes while giving

it a natural look.

Before applying, the false lashes first get done with your eye makeup. You wouldn't put on mascara

before shadow and eyeliner -- same goes with the false lashes. Makeup artist suggests doing other eye

makeup (including mascara) before applying false lashes.

Step 1: Select your eyelash style

False eyelashes comes in different lengths and colors. They are available in full strips, three

quarter pieces or individual clusters, as I have mentioned above. A full set of false eyelashes

can give e both thickness and length; and give your eye a dramatic look. They also take less

time to apply whereas individual eyelashes are great for filling the sparse areas. Individual

lashes create a gorgeous winged look by applying at outer corners. Definitely it is harder to

apply but really give a look natural.

Step 2: Select your color

Black and dark brown false eyelashes are great for daily use. Take your time and decide

whether you are going for longer lashes or fuller lashes or both. You got many options and

try out different styles that may be the surest way to determine the look, which is best for

you. If you’re purchasing it for an occasion, then there are many different fun colors, feathers,

some with rhinestones….

Step 3: Get lash adhesive

Lash adhesive, also comes in different varieties. Generally, there are black and white lash

adhesives. For first timers I will recommend to use white lash adhesive, as it dries clear. Darker

glues hold their color and can give dramatic look and unforgiving if you make a mistake.

Lashes that come with self-adhesive already applied but some definitely hold better than

others, so it is good idea to have some glue on hand.

Step 4: Trim to fit

One size does not fit all. Your lashes may need little bit of trimming before applying.

So hold your false eyelashes against your eyelid to see if they fit or are too wide for

your eye. If they look too wide then go ahead and trim them with scissor. Your

eyelash strip should follow your natural eyelashes and not overhang. If they are too

long, then it will create droopy look, which is not attractive. You can even trim

individual lashes if you think they’re too long and unnatural. Remember, lashes

should be longer towards the outer corner and shorter towards inner corner of your

eye.

Step 4.1: Shape your false eyelashes

Shaping your false lash strips before applying glue is important. Bend your falsies into

shape of C and hold it for a few seconds. Your fake lash strip must follow natural

contour of your upper eyelid so that it adhere properly and look natural. The last

thing you need is the edges to start lifting up.

Step 5: Grab your applicator

To apply false eyelashes you can use eyelash applicator, a pair of tweezers or your

fingers. Select the application technique, which works best for you – you’ll surely

find one works better for you and applying false eyelashes will be much

easier. Remember to be firm but gentle with lashes—don’t crush them. On the other

hand, you also want them to move when applying glue.

Step 6: Apply lash adhesive

Applying glue to the false eyelash strips can be little messy. I tried applying a thin

layer of glue on the lash strips but it doesn’t works out for me and I end up with too

much glue. To get it done properly have glue ready, toothpicks on hand and a flat

surface. Dispense a little glue onto the back of your hand or other flat surface and

apply glue with toothpick. Hold your lash strip with tweezers and you get too much

glue on the strip then simply wipe it off and start over. Apply the glue on the lash

band and make sure that you get the good coverage on ends of the lash strip as this

is where they tend to pull up first. Before, applying wait for about 10 seconds. It will

allows the glue to get tacky so your lashes and will stick better. If you are in hurry

then gently blow on lash or wave back and forth to make the glue dry down. Be

extra cautious use right adhesive because you are applying it around your eyes.

Step 7: Apply your lashes

Now comes the tricky part: applying the false

lashes. Remember you are not in a race so be

slow. Use a magnifying mirror to see exactly

where the lashes strips needs to go. Bring the

strips down from above and place it on the top

of your natural lashes. This will get you as close

as possible to your natural lash line. Things will

look little messy so apply the strip on your

upper lash line base not on your eyelids. So

don’t panic until you see the final results.

Step 8: Set your lashes in its place

After placing your false lash strip on the top of your real lashes, use

your fingertips to gently grasp the false and real lashes. Gently press

them together to fully adhere. If the glue is still wet, then you will

have the flexibility to move the lash strip in correct position. If it

doesn’t work then start over.

Step 9: Fill the gaps

If you find any gaps between your real and fake lashes,

then fill the gaps with the liquid eyeliner. This will give

them look more natural. You can even use the eyelash

curler. Just make sure to wait for about 2 minutes and

be gentle.

1. First: Know that there are 3 basic

types of liners.

Pencil eyeliner: It is easy to apply, but sometimes

doesn’t spread as smoothly or thickly as gel or liquid

liners.

Gel liner: This liner is matte and glide on easily. They

sometime comes in a little pot with brush.

Liquid liner: It can be used for their precision, and come

in tubes with small brush, or ―pen-style‖ with brush tips.

Finding the Right Mascara

Choosing the right mascara is just like the love-hate

relationship. With so many mascaras it is difficult to

find the right one. But here are some things to keep

in mind while your purchase your mascara.

Formula – Should you get lengthening, curling,

thickening or Volumizing? With so many

variety it is difficult to decide which one is best

for you. If you want longer lashes go for good

lengthening mascara, fuller lashes need volume,

• Waterproof – Waterproof mascaras are great for those who are

plan or need to wear it all day. It is best if you are going to be in

Applying Mascara to Upper Lashes

Curl your lashes first. Before applying the curler to base of your

lashes gently, squeeze for about 10 seconds. Then slide the curler to

the middle of your lashes and squeeze for 10 seconds. Lastly curl the

tips of your lashes with another 10-second squeeze. It will ensure

you have a natural curve instead of lashes which are bent at a harsh

angle.

If you don't have curler or you're too afraid to use it then

use your fingertips to push up and curl the wet lashes.

Remove the wand from mascara tube by twisting back and forth

instead of pumping it up and down. Twisting will allow the brush

to pick up mascara, which is what most of the people think they are

doing when they pump the brush in the tube. They are actually

forcing the air into the tube that dries out the mascara.

Wipe off excess mascara on tissue or on lip of the tube. Too much

mascara can lead to clumping. Giving the wand a little wipe can

give you the right amount.

Look up to lift your lashes. You should still be able to see yourself in

the mirror out of your peripheral vision.

If you are afraid that you are going to blink when you

approach your lashes with the wand, open your mouth.

It's harder to blink when your mouth is wide open.

Place the wand against the base of your lashes and wiggle it back

and forth a little. You want the most products to be applied to the

roots, that make your lashes look longer and keep them from

getting weighed down on tips.

The wiggle will also help lift and curl your lashes.

Pull the wand toward the tips of your lashes

with zig-zag motion, or another little

wiggle. The zig-zag adds the length and volume,

and reduce clumping.

Go over your lashes with second coat. Try to

leave it and do a third coat at the most. The

more layers you add on the mascara, the more

likely it is the mascara will dry on your lashes

and cause new coat to clump.

Mix mascaras if you want--do one

layer lengthening, then layer of

thickening on top.

Don't neglect lashes on inner and outer part of your eyelid. Lot of

time people apply mascara only to the center of their eyelid, that

can actually make your eyes look narrower. Make sure you apply

to the inner, middle, and outer lashes.

If you are having trouble reaching your inner lashes with

your brush, then carefully bend the brush to 90 degree or

right angle (don't worry, you can bend it back). It will

make it easy to brush those inner lashes without getting

mascara all over your face.

Applying Mascara to Lower Lashes

Take a spoon, a kleenex or thin wedge of makeup sponge and

hold it underneath your lower eyelashes. This will allow you to

apply mascara without getting it all over your skin.

Use the very tip of the brush to apply the mascara to your lower

lashes. If you have very small wand, then you will use that. It will

be easier to control the application and get close to your eye.

If you have brown mascara, then consider using that on

your lower lashes, even if you have applied it on your

upper lashes. It's not quite as heavy as black and can add

some dimension to your look.

Addressing Common Problems

Remove any mistakes with cotton swab. If you get mascara

on your face or eyelid, then allow it to dry so you don't

smear it and make things worse. Once it dry press the tip of

cotton swab to spot and spin. This will remove the spot

without messing up your eyeshadow.

De-clump with clean mascara wand: Either use disposable

wand or repurpose an old one. Comb your lashes through

it. This will remove clumps and give your lashes definition.

Try to comb through your lashes while mascara is

still wet.

If you don't have an extra wand then try using a

clean toothbrush to comb out any clumps.

Thicken your lashes with baby powder. If you don't have

thick, voluminous lashes then apply this trick. Apply one

coat of eyeliner, and then dust your lashes with translucent

powder or baby powder. Then add another coat of

mascara.

The powder gives mascara more to cling to, and

allows to build more volume.

Remove mascara every night with eye makeup remover. It

might not seem like a big deal, but you can dry out your

lashes at night and cause them to become brittle and fall

out.
