Sermon The Rector

Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Confession of Sin Presider Let us confess our sins to God. Silence, all kneeling as able

Minister and People God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen.

Absolution Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

Gaining Appreciation for Different Faiths The conversations over four Sundays (Feb 9, 16, 23 & March 2) will help us know how to share our Christian faith stories with our multi-faith neighbors, co-workers and friends. Seeing God's image in our neighbor is at the heart of our baptismal life as disciples of Jesus Christ, and this exploration into interreligious engagements will make us more aware of and more equipped to meet "beloved strangers" on our faith journeys. So, why not try this during late-Epiphany: Learn to hear the faith story of others, learn to tell your faith story, learn to treasure multi-faith encounters all more fully as we move "toward our mutual flourishing" together. LENTEN BOOK STUDY Karen Peeler and Jean Cotting would like to invite parishioners to join them in a Lenten study of Richard Rohr's book, FALLING UPWARD: A SPIRITUALITY FOR THE TWO HALVES OF LIFE, beginning the first week of Lent, March 5 (Ash Wednesday) and continuing till Easter, April 20. Fr. Rohr is a Franciscan priest and founder of the Center for Action and Compassion in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the author of numerous books and an internationally known speaker and journalist. In FALLING UPWARD (which comes with workbook) Fr. Rohr offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how our failings can be the foundation for our on-going spiritual growth. Drawing on the wisdom from

time-honored sacred and secular texts, the author explores the two halves of life, and takes us on a journey to understand how the disappointments, heartbreaks, and losses of life actually are stepping stones to the spiritual joys that the second half of life has in store for us. This will be a lay-led study and discussion. We will meet on Sunday evening March 2 at 7:00 pm in the church library to organize further sessions; books and workshops will be ordered for those wishing to participate.
