Dance Your Way through GeographyThe Dance Your Way through Geography presentation will demonstrate how to create engaging geography and cultural lessons for early childhood classrooms. Geography can be a difficult concept for young students to grasp. Through dance and movement, students can have a better understanding of multiculturalism and geography. After the Holocaust: Voices in ResponseParticipants will engage in a close reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide using the two primary document handouts. These documents were created largely through the work of two people: Eleanor Roosevelt and Raphael Lemkin, respectively. Their voices to end prejudice and apathy in the world were significant; to that end, participants will learn more about each person and the roles they played in securing passage of the respective documents. Participants will also consider the critical analysis of the documents, including bias and problematic definitions of genocide. Time will be spent in a whole-group discussion on how to incorporate the documents into an existing study of the Holocaust or a beginning study of genocide. 8th-Grade History InclusionMorton Ranch Junior High has eliminated separate resource social studies classes for special education students. While these students are included in the regular 8th-grade American history class, the special education teachers provide support to the general education teachers in order to support success to all students.
