PNMS uses SNMP model to manage Pasolink/Pasolink+ radio networks.
The SNMP manager in the system is the PNMS workstation fitted with HP-OpenView™ NNM and PNMS application software. It executes management operations which control and monitor the agent systems.
The SNMP agents in the PNMS are Control module(CTRL) in Pasolink+ case, fitted in each Pasolink+ IDU. The CTRL’s contain application software that is capable of network management operations requested by the PNMS. There are different types of CTRL configuration according to its role in the Pasolink radio network.

(SNMP Agents) Pasolink NE Types:
There are 3 types of Pasolink NE according the the role in the PNMS network:
1. CPMC – Central PMC - configured to communicate directly to the PNMS WS and to poll the subordinate SCPMC and RPMC connected in its chain or cluster. This is in addition to monitoring the radio parameters of the NE. (Equivalent of a Gateway NE (GNE))
2. SCPMC – Sub-Central PMC – configured to poll downstream NE’s (SCPMC or RPM) and respond to poll from an upstream CPMC or SCPMC. This is in addition to monitoring the radio parameters of the NE.
3. RPMC – Remote PMC – responds to poll from upstream CPMC or SCPMC and monitor the radio parameter of the NE.

There are 3 types of Pasolink+ NE according the the role in the PNMS network:

4. Backup and Restore
PNMS provides a GUI-based backup tool that can be used to backup and restore the following PNMS directories:
/var/opt/PNMS/LOGS – event logs and alarm history logs /opt/PNMS/conf – PNMS settings such as automatic date time
setting, link performance collect time, snmp settings, maps, frequency plan, etc.
/var/opt/PNMS/pmon_data – link performance data /var/opt/OV/share/databases – non-relational database, containing
NE icon symbols, IP addresses, etc.

Backup Time – Set’s the hour and minute when the backup will start.
Interval – Frequency of the scheduled backup.
Select Media – Set’s the media where the backup will be archived
Select Directory – Set’s the directory where the archived file will be stored (available only when “Hard Disk” is selected media).

NOTES:
1. In case of workstation or hard disk failure, re-install Solaris8 and HPOV NNM first, before restoring from latest backup tape or CDROM.
2. HPOV will be stopped automatically when restore function is executed.
3. HPOV will be started automatically when restore function is completed.
