O Martyrs and confessors, hierarchs and priests, religious and

laity, who, for the sake of Christ, suffered in prisons and labour camps,

and were broken in spirit and wasted by beatings, starvation, and cold!

Your numbers and your names are known only to the all-knowing

God. You shed rivers of righteous blood; and with your tears bedewed

the prison cells and torture chambers. Your martyrs’ blood testifies

before heaven and earth to your unwavering faith in God. You are our

powerful intercessors before the throne of the Most High. Therefore,

with the Mother of God, implore the heavenly Father, the Saviour

Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, a continuous blessing

upon our Church and nation, so that they could joyfully and freely

glorify your holy names.

We glorify the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and

render thanks to You, the Triune God of one essence, for the precious

treasure which You deigned to give to our holy princes and teachers,

holy priests and monks, confessors and martyrs for the Church of

Christ. Their struggles are the source of our strength. Therefore, by

honouring their memory we, together with them, beseechingly cry out: Lord, grant that we may all be

one, that all the children of Rus’-Ukraine may extol You with one heart and one voice, the only true

God, and become worthy of Your eternal bliss in the light that knows no evening.

WELCOME TO ALL PARISHIONERS & GUESTS WHO HAVE JOINED US TODAY!

Troparion, Tone 3: Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice,* for the Lord has done a mighty

deed with His arm.* He trampled death by death. He became the first-born of the dead;* He saved us

from the abyss of Hades* and granted great mercy to the world.

Troparion, Tone 4: O you, who glorified Christ:* princes and bishops,* monastics and martyrs,* and

steadfast confessors of Christian Ukraine throughout all times,*pray Christ God to look with favour

on our people* and to grant them the grace to persevere in the faith* that the souls of prayerful

faithful* who revere your sacred memory* may be saved.

+Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Kontakion, Tone 3: You rose from the tomb, O compassionate Lord,* and led us out from the gates

of death.* Today Adam exults and Eve rejoices,* and the prophets together with the patriarchs*

unceasingly acclaim the divine might of Your power.

Now and for ever and ever. Amen. Kontakion, Tone 4: You shine as bright beacons,* O God-inspired and righteous saints of our

Church.* By your encouraging example,* you serve communities of faithful throughout the

Christian world.* Therefore we humbly bow our heads to you* thanking our great and all-gracious

God* Who has made you our intercessors in heaven* where you pray for our souls.

Prokeimenon: Sing to our God, sing; sing to our King, sing.verse: Clap your hands, all you nations;

shout unto God with the voice of joy. (Psalm 46:7,2)

A Reading from Saint Paul’s letter to the Romans (Romans 8:28-39): Brothers and Sisters, We

know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his

purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,

in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family. And those whom he predestined he also

called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.

What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not

withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything

else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It

is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed

intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or

persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being

killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more

than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor

angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor

anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our

Lord.

Alleluia. In You, O Lord, have I hoped that I may not be put to shame for ever.verse: Be a protector

unto me, O God, and a house of refuge to save me. (Psalm 30:2,3)verse: Blessed is the man who

fears the Lord; he shall delight exceedingly in His commandments.verse: His posterity shall be

mighty upon the earth. (Psalm 111:1,2)

Communion Hymn: Praise the Lord from the heavens;* praise Him in the highest.* Rejoice in the

Lord, O you just;* praise befits the righteous.* Alleluia, alleluia,* alleluia.

Vibrant Parish Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, as you once gathered lost sheep that they might hear Your

voice and be your flock, so also today graciously look down from heaven upon our parish community,

and send down on it your Holy Spirit, that it might be a place to receive the joy of Your Good News.

Strengthen us with your presence, and always gather us together in prayer. Grant us the spirit of serving

others, so that in our parish all might encounter You, the merciful God. Bless our spiritual leaders with

Your wisdom, and inspire us to generously give of our time, talents and treasure for the building up

of Your Kingdom. Unite us in peace and harmony, as befits Your community of love. Instill in us a

missionary spirit, and let our parish community shine with the light of the Gospel, with prayer and

good works, inviting all to share in the divine life, so that Your Name, O Savior, may be praised,

together with Your eternal Father, and your most-holy, good and life-giving Spirit. Amen.

SUNDAY OF ALL SAINTS OF UKRAINE Today’s feast day, the SUNDAY OF ALL

SAINTS OF UKRAINE, raises up before our

eyes not just the canonized saints of Ukraine, but

all those other holy ones, the great cloud of

unknown saints of our ancestral lands, known only

to God, whose lives were dedicated to God and the

establishment of His Kingdom here on earth.

And who are among them? Well, we have

such saints in all our own families. They are

parents, grandparents, great grandparents, relatives

and ancestors who lived holy lives (and their lives

revolved around the Church), as well as those

members of our families who sacrificed their own

comfort and resources to support the Church in its

mission to spread the gospel to our people.

They are nuns and teachers who taught us

about our Lord, Jesus Christ, about the Sacraments

and the life of God we receive at Divine Liturgy in

Holy Communion. They are friends, who supported us in our choices to do what is right,

what is good, what is noble and best. They are also our bishops, priests and religious men

and women who inspired us, prayed for us, and prayed with us. They are our brothers and

sisters of our parish communities, who would drop everything to come and help those who

were in need, caring for those who were sick or were in trouble.

Holiness isn’t something that is distant and far removed for us. Quite the contrary, it

is very near and close at hand. For holiness is not some strange way of living.

We recognize today that we are called to be part of that vast multitude of holy ones whose

numbers are so great they cannot be counted. This is All Saints Sunday of all who trace their

roots to the Church of Kyiv, established by St. Volodymyr and Olha – is meant to be your

feast day and mine.

What remains for us to do is to break free from some of the ordinary patterns we may

have established in our daily lives and try something fresh and new. God has fallen in love

with you and me just where we are. All that remains is for us to live lives a little bit closer to

each other, as well as a little bit closer to God. Each and every time we do, we grow in

holiness and we become a little bit more like what God dreamed we could be when He made

us in the first place.

May the love of God fill us with a greater measure of His presence, His power and

His Holy Spirit on this SUNDAY, AS WE COMMEMORATE ALL THE SAINTS OF

UKRAINE, as well as all the remaining days of our lives.

DON’T FORGET FAITH AS CANADA CELEBRATES 150TH BIRTHDAY

When Canada became a nation 150 years ago there was little debate about the prominent place

of faith in society. Canada was to be built on Christian values. The founders rejected names such as

Kingdom of Canada and Republic of Canada in favour of Dominion of Canada, a tribute to Psalm

72:8: “He shall have dominion from sea to sea.”

That Christian ethos went unchallenged during Canada’s first 100 years. Even as recently as

1982, when the constitution was patriated, the preamble to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms

affirmed that “Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God.”

But as Canada turns 150, one of many ways the nation has changed is that broad acceptance of faith

in public affairs is no longer taken for granted. Some people even suggest religion is under attack,

which may be excessive. Religion is more the target of a cultural siege than a full-on civil assault.

Either way, though, the result is that faith is less welcome in the public square of 21st-century Canada.

The political backslapping sparked by the anniversary celebrations has included countless

testaments to how Canada has become a nation of respect, tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness. That

is certainly true in many ways, and even in religion it’s clear that Canada is increasingly diverse. But

when it comes to respect, tolerance and the inclusion in public life of faith-held beliefs and values, the

opposite is true. Canada is less accommodating.

Hardly a week passes without another example of this. In Ontario, doctors who oppose

euthanasia and assisted suicide on religious or moral grounds are currently denied the right to opt out

directly or indirectly in the practice. In Edmonton, a pro-life group which has operated a booth for 15

years at an annual event hosted at a city-owned site is being locked out due to a “new policy” that bans

“religious organizations.” Ottawa MPs are being asked to revoke a law that currently makes it a

criminal offence to obstruct clergy or cause a disturbance during a religious service.

In 1867, the Fathers of Confederation sought to nurture a connection between faith and

nationhood. Many of them would have understood the vital role played by generations of faith leaders

— beginning with St. Francois Laval and St. Marie l’Incarnation in the 17th century and carried on by

others through the decades — in knitting the social fabric and setting a moral compass for the new

nation. They would be disappointed to see that Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations give barely a nod

to the nation’s deep and important religious history.

Also unlikely to be mentioned much is that Dominion of Canada is still Canada’s formal name,

and that He still has dominion from sea to sea.

On the occasion of Canada’s 150 anniversary, we pray: Eternal God, whose

reign extends from sea to sea and whose care endures throughout the ages, hear our prayers for this country, Canada: grant wisdom to those who govern it and respect for human life and dignity to every citizen, so that justice may flourish and all peoples live in unity and peace.
