PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As this is my first newsletter as president I would like to thank Silky Sullivan for all he has done in the last year as president. It has been an honor to work with him and the rest of the board and activities chairmen who contribute so much to this organization. I will certainly try to fill the big shoes of my predecessor and ask for your assistance to continue the fun activities of this outstanding organization.

As I am sure you have heard by now this is the last paper newsletter you will receive, our newsletters going forward will all be electronic and you will receive them as emails. The electronic newsletter and our website will be an important means of keeping up to date with all of the club’s activities. We recognize this may present some difficulty to some members so we will have copies of the newsletter printed and available at our monthly meetings. Please let me or any club officer know if you are having difficulty with this new arrangement. By eliminating the paper newsletter, we will save a significant amount of your dues which savings the board is actively seeking ways to return this benefit to the members.

The May meeting was well attended in spite of the large number of snowbirds returning north. At the May meeting several minor changes to our bylaws were unanimously approved and new officers and board members were elected by the membership. I was elected president; Ray Seward was elected as a vice president and board member and Tim Clune was elected as Secretary and board member replacing Dave Pritchard. Dan Flynn retired from the board as immediate past president. Silky Sullivan thanked the retiring board members and presented each with a memento of their service. Silky was then thanked for his outstanding year as president to a standing ovation from all in attendance.

Keith Dameron who is the Chairman of Step Smart Collier gave an insightful presentation to create awareness of seniors to fall risks. Falls are the leading cause of injury and death to seniors in Florida and particularly Collier County. He presented opportunities to minimize fall risks in the home and in general. Those interested in obtaining more information on this topic can visit www.stepsmartcollier.org .

Since our last newsletter we welcomed new member MICHAEL MEGUID. Take a moment to introduce yourselves and assist our new member in integrating into our fun social club.

We had good attendance at our May events and continued the fun! Big thank you to the VP’s and special Board chairmen who coordinated the following events:

May 11th – , Two One Hour Short Plays at Marco Players coor-dinated by RON MOORES

May 17 – Coed Mini Golf and Lunch coordinated by TOM MCCULLOUGH (Cancelled due to rain)

May 19th – Installation Dinner Dance coordinated by outgo-ing president SILKY SULLIVAN

I look forward to working with all of you this next year to continue the great tradition of this club. As I mentioned the Board is actively looking at many different ways to increase the value of your membership. You can help by volunteering as a host for an event or by providing suggestions to me or any of the other Board members or Committee Chairman. We value your input and membership.
