FROTH FLOTATION OF BASTNAESITE
Srdja Butatovic, Peterborough, Canada assigned to Falconbridge Limited; Highwood Resources L
A process is described for the mineral separation of rare earth metal compounds, such as bast- naesite, contained in oxidic minerals. The pro- cess is a froth flotation process utilizing a novel collector emulsion, which is an emulsified mix- ture off a secondary amine modified sulphonated fatty acid, a high rosin containing tall oil fatty acid, an anionic petroleum sulphonate, and a high molecular weight primary amine. The col- lector emulsion mixture is added to the aqueous slurry of the comminuted rare earth metal com- pound containing oxidic mineral, which has been previously conditioned in a conventional manner. The conditioning reagents may include alkaline pH modifiers and gangue depressants such as citric acid, oxalic acid, sodium silicates and fatty acids. The rare earth metal compounds will be concentrated in the froth, and are separated in the conventional manner.
A method of beneficiating a phosphate ore con- taining apatite and dolomite impurities con- sisting of reagentizing a sample of the ore with an aqueous solution containing a cationic collector and sodium chloride and subjecting the ore to flotation to float the apatite fraction.

ORE FLOTATION AND MINERAL FLOTATION AGENTS FOR USE
THEREIN
Kenneth B Kimble, Gary D Macdonell, Harold W Mark assigned to Phillips Petroleum Com- pany
A process for the recovery of minerals from an ore or concentrate containing the same wherein the minerals are recovered in a froth from an aqueous pulp containing the ore or concentrate and wherein one or more mineral flotation a- gents are employed in the aqueous pulp to con- trol the type of minerals in the froth is provided. The mineral flotation agents used in carrying out the process comprise compounds formed by the addition of hydrogen sulfide to dicyclopen- tadiene. In one embodiment, the mineral flota- tion agents used in carrying out the process comprise tricyclodecenyl mercaptans having one or both of the following structures: See Patent for Chemical Structure and CH2HS.

BINDER FOR METAL- CONTAINING ORES
Bruce E Banyai, Denis E LaSota, Dennis L Strunk assigned to Aqualon Company
A binder useful for agglomerating a con- centrated ore material in the presence of water comprising an alkali metal salt ofcarboxymethyl cellulose and sodium tripolyphosphate, a pro- cess for agglomerating the concentrated ore material using this binder, and the agglomerated product of this process, are disclosed.
