What can you do with 48 hours in Kyiv, Ukraine?

Take in the atmosphere at St. Volodymyr's Cathedral

Decide to ride the underground – it’s cheap and the escalator

rides are thrilling!

(Stay alert! They go very fast!)

Take the metro to Zoloti Vorota and before you surface, admire

the beautiful arches at that station

You will see the imposing Golden Gate as soon as you exit the

station

Climb the bell tower at St. Sophia Cathedral

Take some time to admire the mosaic of the Virgin Mary at the cathedral once you come down

Her face is created with around 15,000 traditional Easter eggs

made of wood. It was put together by Ukrainian artist

And if this gentleman is still there stop and listen to him on

his bandura

His voice is hauntingly beautiful

Directly across from St. Sophia Cathedral is another beautiful

Kyvian landmark – St Michael’s Golden Domed Monastry

The entrance to the funicular, which takes you to Podil is just

behind the monastry

Then have fun walking through the souvenir stands at

Andrew’s Descent

On day two take the metro to the Arsenala stop

Make your way towards the Lavra Monastry

On the way you will first see the monument of eternal glory at the

grave of the unknown soldier

And then the monument to the victims of the great famine

It was difficult to remain composed in front of this statue

Prepare yourself for what you will see at the Lavra Monastry

Its miniature museum and catacombs will not leave you

indifferent

You can then walk over to the Motherland Statue which towers

over Kyiv

When you’re done make your way to the Maydan Nezalejnosti,

the epicenter of the Orange Revolution, where you can see

the independence statue

A short walk will take you to the People’s Friendship Arch

As for what to eat…

Try out O’Panas, touted at the best place for blinis in the

city¨(Metro stop: Ploshcha Lva Tolstoho)

And don’t leave the city without trying at least one helping of

‘borscht’ (beetroot soup)!
