A series of rooflights developed to make the venue more multi-functional but there was still an issue with creating a public space for the cafe which was a practical size and still had a good relationship to the linear park and facing square. The square had to absorb a 6m change in level which was acheived through the design of large terraces with large areas ofof grass in the most sociable areas. This was dictat-ed by the building use specified in the masterplan. Due to the level change over the square, it was felt not inappropriate to lift the level of the venue, ad-vertising its purpose while also creating a usable and public friendly glazed cafe space beneath it.
