thThe Institute organized its 12 Foundation Day Celebration on August 19, 2019. Shri Rajendra Trivedi, Speaker, Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Government of Gujarat was the Chief Guest of the function. Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel, President, Nirma University presided over the function and Shri K. K. Patel, Vice President and Dr. Anup K. Singh, Director General, Nirma University graced on the occasion.
On this occasion, students were felicitated for their academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements during the year 2018-19. As part of extension activities, under the banner of National Service Scheme (NSS), the Institute organised various activities such as Blood Donation Camp, tree planation etc.

FACULTY REFRESHER PROGRAMME
The Institute of Law, organized a two-weeks Faculty Refresher Programme on the topic 'Strengthening Clinical and Legal Education through Pedagogy of Compassion, Hope and Practice' from July 1 to 15, 2019 at the Institute. RESEARCH CENTER ACTIVITIES
Institute of Law, Nirma University on September 9, 2019 has
established its first-ever research-oriented body, the Students
Research Council (SRC) with the aim to stimulate the trend of
researching among the students of ILNU. SRC is a central body
created by the Institute under the Scheme to Promote Research
and Innovation amongst the students. The council is chaired by Mr.
Aklovya Panwar, a fifth year student at ILNU.
SRC aims to provide an effective mechanism for research and
development in the Institute. It will act as a common platform for
multi-directed research approaches. The aid and support provided
by SRC is not only limited to the UG students but is also extended to
the PG students and Alumni of the Institute as well.
With the aim of paving way for Student Researchers, a week long
(September 09 -12, 2019) Research Counter was set up in the institute that introduced the world of Research and Policy to students
by SRC. It served as a counter for research portals, tools and centres. It also introduced students to fellowships like LAMP, Gandhi etc..

Workshop on Technology Friday's
The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Law (CAIL) inaugurated a series of workshop on Technology Friday’s. The first workshop of its
kind was conducted on August 09, 2019. The topic of the workshop was Inherent Biases in AI. The sessions on this topic were taken by
Ms. Usha Ramananthan followed by Mr. Jaideep Reddy at Smart classroom, ILNU Building. It was a three-hour long session including
question-answer session of half an hour at the end of speech by each speaker.
The second workshop on Technology Friday’s was conducted on
August 22, 2019 on the topic Conceptualising Ethical Artificial
Intelligence in India- Concepts of Ownership, Agency, Liabiltiy, AI and
Related Legal Issues. The session on this topic was taken by Mr.
Abhayraj Naik .
The third workshop on Technology Friday’s conducted on August 22,
2019 on the topic growing impact – Data Privacy Issues in AL. The
speaker for the lecture was Mr. Arun Prabhu.
The Fourth session of Technology Friday was conducted on August
30, 2019 on the issues covering Intellectual property with the
emergence of Artificial Intelligence. Mr. Zameer Nathani made the
session a success with his great insights on the topic. Mr. Zameer Nathani during the workshop

Workshop on Valuation, Accounting and Taxation Aspects of Mergers

Lecture on Research ProposalDr. Madhuri Parikh delivered a talk on "How to prepare research Proposal' for the faculties of ILNU on September 21, 2019 at
Conference Room, ILNU at the session arranged by the Research Head at ILNU.
Centre for Corporate Law Studies, Institute of Law, Nirma University organized a three day workshop from September 26th –
September 28th, 2019 on Valuation, Accounting and Taxation aspects of Mergers. The main purpose of this workshop was to help
students to make them understand the important aspects of Mergers and Acquisitions. The inaugural session of the Workshop was
conducted by Mr. Chinmay Naik, Associate Director, K.C. Mehta & Co. He discussed the differentiation between Significant Minority,
Majority and Full Acquisition. The sessions on the second day were taken by Mr. Suril Mehta, Associate Director, K.C. Mehta & Co. and
Ms. Pooja Sisodia, Legal Consultant, K.C. Mehta & Co. Some of the major key takeaways were Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) method
and the detailed understanding of Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA). The third day was divided
into two sessions. The first one was taken up by Mr. Kinjesh Thakkar, Direct Tax Head, Linde Engineering India. The second and the
final one which brought an end to the three day workshop was taken up by Mr. Harsh Gada, Partner, Unicorn Group and Ajmera &
Associates.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
NSS Unit of ILNU organized 'Jashn-e-Azadi'- a poetry recital
event on August 16, 2019 at the Institute. The event was an
attempt to pay homage to our great freedom fighters and to
celebrate the 73rd Independence Day. Over twenty students
participated in the programme.
Legal Awareness Camp by Mission
SanghARSH.
A Legal Awareness Camp in village Charodi near Nirma
University, under its new campaign namely, "Know your
Rights" was conducted by Team Mission SanghARSH. A Team
of 14 members visited the village on September 22, 2019.
The team spoke and made the people aware about the new
traffic rules which have been implemented recently by the
government. The people were made aware about the new
traffic rules, revised penalties, and the required documents
which they should keep with them. Along with that, the
safety measures which every person should take and things
that they should avoid like rash driving, drink and drive etc.

ILNU Fit India Movement
As part of Government of India's innovative movement 'Fit
India Movement'- to take the Nation forward on the path of
Fitness and Wellness-Healthier India, the NSS Unit of ILNU
organized a 'Walk 10,000 step on the campus' programme on
August 29, 2019. The event was basically to generate
awareness regarding sports and yoga among the youth. The
volunteers watched the telecast and Prime Minister's
speech.

As part of Foundation Day celebration, the NSS Unit, in association with the Legal Aid Clinic Committee a Blood Donation camp was
organized on August 19, 2019 on the campus. About 59 students donated blood during the camp. In association with the Legal Aid
Committee, the NSS Unit also organized a plantation drive on the same day on the campus. About 28 saplings were planted on the
campus.

The students of Biodiversity Law went on a study
tour to Polo Forest on September 10, 2019. The
tour was aiming to sensitize the students of the
biological resources and the rules and
regulations that are providing necessary
safeguards.

ILNU won the Deshraag- Patriotic Song Competition
A team comprising faculty and staff members at ILNU won the Runner's Up Trophy of the Deshraag – Patriotic Song Competition
organized by the Students Welfare Board, Nirma University on August 09, 2019.

Rubel Bharej has co-authored an article titled “Sabka Vishwas - Legacy Dispute Resolution Scheme, 2019” It’s a moment of proud
for the Institute that the article was also introduced in the Finance Act, 2019 and the same has been published on TAXMANN

MOOT COURT ACHIEVEMENT
The team Anirudh Srinivasan, Ritwik Sharma, and Kushagra
Goyal participated in the 19th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot
Court Competition held from September 19-22, 2019 at The
Indian Society of International Society Law(ISISL), New Delhi
and won citation for the Best Memorial tied with Symbiosis
Law School, Noida. The team was also adjudged as Quarter-
Finalists in the Competition. The competition was organised
by ISISL, in collaboration with International Committee of
Red Cross (ICRC).
OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS
DEBATE
Shubham Bohra and Devashish Trivedi were invited as
adjudicators and judged the Novice Finals of RV Debate
Tournament held at Banglore from August 16-18, 2019.
Devashish Trivedi secured an Adjudicator Break at the Asia
Debate Open held at held at Guangzhou, China from August
23- August 25,2019.
The debate society has brought laurels to the institute in
GNLU British Parliamentary Debate held at Gandhinagar
from August 31- September 2, 2019. Palash Pareek and
Nayanika Singhal were qualified for Semi- Finals. Aarush
Sharma and Vanshjaa Sengar were qualified for Semi Finals
in the novice category. Devashish Trivedi and Akshit Mishra
qualified for Semi Finals. Both of them got the award for the
4th Best Speaker
Subham Borah, a student of 5th year Institute of Law,
secured the position of 3rd best adjudicator at the Trivium
Punjab Engineering College Asian Parliamentary Debate held
at Chandigarh from September 6 - 9, 2019. He was adjudged
as one of the best adjudicators, out of 110 adjudicators.
The team comprising of Adamya Ojha and Sree Ganesh, first
year students of Institute of Law, secured a break and
qualified for semi-finals in the novice category in the
prestigious MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology British
Parliamentary Debate held at Bangalore from September 14
-16, 2019.
Subham Borah secured 3rd best adjudicator at Kathmandu
World Debates held in Nepal from September 12 - 16, 2019.

Mr. Subham Borah bagged the Championship Trophy in the
NMIMS, School of Law, Loquitur Parliamentary Debate held
from September 27th- 29th , 2019 and got the award for the
5th Best Speaker whereas Devashish Trivedi won the 2nd
Best Adjudicator Award.

QUIZ ACHIEVEMENTS
Harsh Kamdar and Namit Jain, fourth year students Institute of Law, secured a spot in Top 20 of 1st edition of India Today Quiz
hosted by Lallantop. The first round consisted of 20,000 teams pan India and in second round 81 teams were shortlisted.
Aadesh Shinde and Devashish Saxena, second year students Institute of Law, secured 2nd Runners up in the Rotarian T.S.
Nanavati Memorial Quiz competition held at Ellisbridge Gymkhana organised by Rotary Club Ahmedabad.
Learner’s Moot
The Learner’s Moot Court Competition was organised on September 21-22, 2019 at the Institute of Law. This competition was
conducted for the students admitted for the first year Batch 2019.
Participation/Presentation
The Institute of Law celebrated Hindi Diwas on September 16,
2019, acknowledging the rich and diverse Indian culture, and
the importance of a language in any culture. The main aim of
celebrating this day was to acknowledge the national language
of the country. All the students were dressed in Indian
Traditional clothes. An event “Syaahi” was organised, wherein
the students were given a platform to showcase their talents
and to express themselves through their poems in Hindi. The
celebration was a tribute to the national language, rich culture
and tradition.

The Institute organized the Thalassemia test for the First Year student Undergraduate Law Programmes (B.A., LL.B.(Hons.) and
B.Com., LL.B.(Hons.) admitted for the academic year 2019-20 on August 30, 2019.
Melange
The Students Welfare Board(SWB),
Institute of Law, Nirma University
organized the Annual Cultural programme,
Melange on August 30, 2019. The aim of
this cultural event is to provide the new
batch a platform to showcase their talent
and to give them a moment of relaxation
amidst all the academic chores. There
were three broad categories under which
the performances were invited i.e. Music,
dancing and drama. Under these three
categories the event witnessed a total
participation of 20 juniors and 5 special
performances by the seniors
Fresher’s Party
The Student Welfare Board(SWB), Institute of Law, organized the
Fresher’s Party on August 08, 2019. The event was planned with
a purpose to give the new batch a memorable welcome to the
Institute.
The event saw a turnout of more than 350 people including the
fresher’s, senior batches, the faculty and the staff members.
Overall the event witnessed freshers participating in every task
enthusiastically and enjoying the night to the fullest which was
meant to be totally theirs.

The Campus Recruitment Committee of Institute of Law hosted a
one hour session by International Internships for Indian Students
(AIESEC) on September 25, 2019. The speaker of the event was
Mr. Priyam Shah, Vice President-Student Sector, AIESEC,
Ahmedabad. He delivered a talk on how AIESEC can help students
to grow disruptively in the global market by providing a platform
to explore leadership qualities, explore the country, and have a
certificate provided from AIESEC once he/she completes the
exchange and many more things.
