Este domingo se celebra a Jesús como “el Buen Pastor”. Cuando el Papa Francisco anunció este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, se meditó a Jesús en la parábola de Lucas de “la oveja perdida”, “¿Qué hombre de ustedes, si tiene cien ovejas y una de ellas se pierde, no deja las noventa y nueve en el campo y va tras la que está perdida hasta que la encuentra?” (Lucas 15:4). ¿Cuál sería una posible respuesta? “Un pastor responsable que quiera cuidar su buen nombre”. Sin embargo, Jesús considera a una persona que esté perdida, sumamente importante y sugiere culpar al pastor. La oveja no “se extravió”, el pastor la “perdió”. Así que “al encontrarla, la pone sobre sus hombros, gozoso” (15:5). Esa es la imagen compasiva de la cruz pectoral que usa el Papa Francisco, el Buen Pastor llevando sobre sus hombres a la oveja perdida a casa. EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE OF MERCY December 8, 2015—November 20, 2016

JUBILEO EXTRAORDINARIO DE LA MISERICORDIA 8 de diciembre, 2015 al 20 de noviembre, 2016

This Sunday celebrates Jesus as “the Good Shepherd.” When announcing this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis focused on Jesus’ “lost sheep” parable in Luke. “[Who] among you,” Jesus asks, “having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Luke 15:4). A reasonable answer? “No responsible shepherd who wants to keep the job!” Yet Jesus considers one lost person supremely important and suggests blaming the shepherd. The sheep didn’t “go astray,” the shepherd “lost” it. Thus, “when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy” (15:5). That tender image of Jesus adorns the simple cross Pope Francis has always worn, the Good Shepherd gently carrying the lost sheep home on his shoulders. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, may we, who once were lost ourselves but now are found, join Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home at least one precious lamb. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It was approximately a decade ago when the Lord first called on me to serve at St. Casimir. It was with genuine appreciation that I accepted and served our community as a parent volunteer, a catechist and, most recently, as Director of Religious Education.

During this journey I have witnessed a community grow in faith and unity. My own desire for continued faith formation has deepened while supporting families in their faith journey and as children prepared to receive the blessed Sacraments. Many wonderful friendships have enhanced what I considered an already joyous journey here at St. Casimir and throughout the Diocese of

Gary. I have been blessed to have participated in numerous fun, faith filled events with our youth; such as TAPT, CYX, Grasta De, Summer Camps, Glow in the Dark Rosaries and Glowing Soccer games to name a few. I have also served on the PAREFF and Northlake DRE Committees.

Every journey encounters challenges at times. For me personally, this year has proven to have pressing health related challenges for my family. It is when we come on hard times that our faith can be tested. In Romans 8:28 the Lord tells us, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose".

As I formally resign from my position as Director of Religious Education, feeling God has once again called to my heart during difficult times, I am flooded with gratitude and confidence in our leadership. In collaboration with our priest, Ms. Alexandria Higareda will continue to be of service for our Sunday Session and Monday Night Catechism. All-American Scholars Based on academic achievements, 5th grader Olivia Rayson, 6th grader Zachary Plebanski and 7th grader Zane Rayson were recently named Pop Warner Regional and National All-American Scholars. The Pop Warner All-American Scholar Program requires that the student be in 5th through 8th grade and have a 96% or higher overall grade point average to apply for All-American Scholar status.

Olivia, Zac and Zane will be recognized at the Mid-America Regional Banquet in Schaumburg, Illinois on April 16, 2016. Additionally, all 3 are invited to attend the National Pop Warner Scholastics Banquet in Orlando, Florida in May. Being recognized as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar means that academically, Olivia, Zac and Zane are amongst the top 2% of all Pop Warner participants nationally. Sisters to host ‘The Song of My Heart Retreat: Love Cannot be Silenced’

Persons of all faith traditions are invited to join the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, for “The Song of My Heart Retreat: Love Cannot be Silenced,” scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, May 20, to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 22, at Providence Spirituality and Conference Center. The retreat will incorporate music, meditation, movement and shared prayer. Cost to attend is $200, and the registration deadline is May 13.
