Polish Consulate

BeforeBefore designing the specific consulate facilities, en-compassing office space, education facilities, cafe multi-purpose venue and chapel, the broader master-planning of an area of Dundee was required. A strat-egy of linking Dudhope Park to the University campus through this area was acheived by creating ‘linear parks’ which fed into and across a large public square. With this square in place, the design of the consulate developed to have the best relationship possible with the passing public aswell as private visitors. The formal areas of the building such as offices, class-rooms and reception areas were located in a tall and narrow element with a stark facade. In contrast, the public cafe and venue were expressed very clearly, through materiality and the expression of the venue’s seating rake, raised up, to indicate its function.
