    Code Name of folder Content of folder

    BMBasicInformation

    Fundamental data sets that can be used to make thesector data described above more meaningful. Displayingor analyzing the base data with the sector data assists theuser in making more effective and well-informeddecisions.

    SESocio-economic

    The software issues which in a GIS context arecombined due to international GIS standards andtechnical rationales. Data related to public services andeconomic development.

    EN EnvironmentThe valid to tag, which identifies data that can be usedto protect and develop environmental sustainability,conditions in the district.

    IS InfrastructureInfrastructure is the man made features with layers,which depict the location, distribution, volume, standardsand type of infrastructure utilities within the district.

    LMLand (use)Management

    Land-use Management symbolizes the price tag withlayers which provide basis for zoning, land ownership,taxation and assessment of land values, which can beinputted to fiscal resources of the district.

    PRProjectManagement

    Monitoring development activities in projects that havebeen initiated by the IDDP or have impact on the land andwater use.

    A preset directory is found in the Toolbox, which can be copiedand pasted into your computer.

    Guidelines for Naming of Files

    This folder directory is for the preparation of the IDDP document. It isrecommended for better organization and management of your files.

    It is important to name the folders and files in a coherent way, so that will be easier

    to view the content of the drive. Using meaningful names and abbreviations canhelp see at a glance what each dataset is.

    The Plans data bank (can also be applied for the IDDP databank)

    01_ GIS contains the tables to be used for the IDDP

    02_ Doc contains the draft of the text

    02_ Im contains all the photos/images

    02_ Mi contains other mix files

    It is recommended that the name of the folder or file should be:

    Clear and comprehensive;

    Try to reflect the key data of the file;

    Not too long;

    Written with sentence rule (start with capital letter);

    Acronyms with capital letters;

    No dots, slashes and backslashes, only underscore can be used.

    The Preparation of Attribute Data

    When the Search-for-Data process starts in some cases attribute data will not bestored in a digital format. The ArcView and most other GIS software have a tool to

    manipulate attribute data. However, for the GIS freshmen situation it isrecommended to use MS Excel for two reasons:

    The custodian of the attribute data will (hopefully) be a representativefrom the specific sector (education, engineering, etc.) and the staff willmost probably be familiar the Microsoft Software package, in where theExcel application is found;

    STUDA

    The custodian of the spatial data will be the (Which department should

    be the first to use GIS in the District office??) and as the software is anexpensive part of the GIS start package be the unit to hold the only GISsoftware license. Consequently, the ??? will assist the attribute datacustodians to include the attribute datasets into the GIS. Furthermore,the ??? will extend services to the other GIS stakeholders so they will beable to use the information in their tasks by providing GIS browsers andproducing print outs.

    A time will come when the stakeholders will be confident to work with the attributedata in the GIS software and the methodology recommended during theintroductory phase mentioned above will not cause any problem in that respect.

    Furthermore, besides from using Excel for data gathering, it is recommended thatthe files that will be used in the GIS, will be stored in the dBASE file formats DBF 4
