Appeal to the heart

•  90% of decisions are made from the heart.

• People buy into a position based on emotion and then they justify it with logic.

• Good negotiation is to draw, to appeal to the heart.

Reduce conflict by stressing common goals

•  Focus on things in common rather than what divides.

• When you emphasize common goals, when you do it reduces conflict and it creates a conducive environment for doing business.

Express Value for the Relationship

•  “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers.” Philemon 3-4

• People are much more likely to cooperate with you if they feel valued by you.

• Chose to place a value on them, treat them like they are valuable and mean it.

•  Redirect opinion with well chosen words.

•  He who frames the argument usually wins.

• Take the time to carefully think through how you can carefully frame the argument. If you frame it right you can win the argument.

• Make sure that people aren’t negotiating from the standpoint of misinformation.
