    Introduction

Samiti Sutra is a collection of the prayers (praarthanaa/mantra) and songs (geet) that we learn during Samiti Shikshaa Varg. The material has been provided in this form so that we may follow the prayers as we hear and recite them, helping us to learn them ourselves. We should be familiar with all of this material by the end of Samiti Shikshaa Varg, so that we can teach others when we return to our shakhas.

Each praarthanaa and geet has its meaning in English, as well as the text in Hindi. When singing a praarthanaa or geet it is important to understand the meaning, in

addition it also serves as a good tool to learn Hindi.

    Gruhini Varg & SSV 2015

Hindu Sevika Samiti is a voluntary non-profit womens organisation which was established in 1975. Currently the organisation has over 30 branches across UK.

Hindu Sevika Samiti through it activities encourages girls and women to learn,

practice, preserve and promote universal Hindu values, to build self-confidence, cultivate a sense of social consciousness and achieve all round development in order

to face the challenges and rigours of the modern era. This we hope will lead to individuals who pro-actively contribute and eventually become integral members of

the culture, society and country which they live in.

The organisation was first formed in Bharat by Lakshmibai Kelkar on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi 1936. Since then, the organisation has expanded worldwide to

Europe, Africa, America, Australia and Mauritius.

We regard the Bhagwa Dhwaj as our Guru in shakha, as it is eternal and represents victory. Hindu Dharma has shown that wherever the Bhagwa Dhawaj has been

present, the path has been a victorious one.

There are three ideals in Samiti which we look upon, Jijabai who represents the ideal motherhood, Jhansi Ki Rani who portrays great leadership qualities and Ahaliyabai

    who represent an able administrator.

    Ekatmata Stotra

Our salutations to Bharat Mata whose feet are washed by the waves of the Indian Ocean, who is crowned by the snowy Himalayas, whose illustrious children include distinguished sages who have attained enlightenment and led the nation.

    Ivsya Upanishad

The entire universe consists of the Supreme Lord present within nature that has existed since the beginning of time. That Almighty alone is therefore independent - without a beginning and without an end. Due to this quality, do not lust for others wealth. Instead, enjoy whatever is given to you by the Lord, and realise the Self by passive awareness and renunciation

    Rig Veda

May you move in harmony, speak in one voice; let your minds be in agreement; just as the ancient gods shared their portion of sacrifice.

O Almighty! You are the giver of life, the remover of pains and sorrows, and the bestower of happiness. O Creator of the Universe, may we receive the supreme sin-destroying light. May you guide our intellect in the right direction.

    Ekatmata Stotra

May nature, composed of the three qualities, (Satva, Rajas and Tamas); five elements (fire, water, air, earth and space); nine planets and fourteen worlds; seven notes of music with all their variations; ten directions and time (past, present and future), cause perpetual good to us.

That (Absolute Brahmaan that is me) is infinite. This (manifested Brahmaan that is the universe) is also infinite. From infinity comes infinity. Infinity subtracted from infinity, still leaves infinity.

Naveena yuga ke aruodaya kee jyotirmaya aaratee

Though Samiti is relatively new, our mission is not. Samiti is the new age form of Vedic civilisation similar to new leaves bringing life to an age old tree. Our civilisation proves that Truth and Dharma triumph in spite of all odds and challenges. At present the world is facing new challenges. And Dharma is in distress. Samiti is like the Tilak of fortune on the forehead of a new era with the victory of Dharma is ahead of us. We welcome this new era with our offerings.

Abalaa naaree kabhee na thee par jaga ne maana liyaa

Sabalaa bankera nija shakti kaa jaga ko gnaan diyaa

Hamako aba to karanee hogee samaaj mana jaagruti

Women were never weak in personality, but society always misunderstood and mistreated her to be weak and poor. We show our strength and remove this misunderstanding through our efforts and educating the masses. These efforts will help us to stand as strong as Ashtabhuja Maa Durga in the present society.

My tenth salutation is to all the directions and to the sky and to the one who shows us the path to progress ahead on.

    Geet 1: Jayajayakaaree Maataa Vasudhaa

    Jayajayakaaree maataa vasudhaa ashabhujaa bhagavatee,

Dason dishaa mei faila rahee hai anuroopa samiti

Victory to Mother Earth who is the avatar of Maa Durga. We, the Sevikas of Samiti are undertaking our work in all directions. Our strength resembles her eightfold qualities. (Our efforts are focussed on the glory of Dharma to the Mother earth.)

Geet 2: Ektaa Swatantrataa Samaanataa Rahe Ektaa swatantrataa samaanataa rahe, Vishva mei charitra kee mahaanataa rahe, mahaanataa rahe

To keep good character (moral values) on a high pedestal, oneness, freedom and equality are necessary in the world.

Kanh hai karoo geet eka vishva kaa, Rang hai aneka chitra eka vishva kaa, Roop hai aneka bhaav eka vishva kaa, Shabda hai aneka artha eka vishva kaa, Chetanaa samagrataa samaanataa rahe ||1||

Millions are singing the same universal song (message). Though there are many colours in the canvas of the world, diverse humanity has just one feeling. Through different ways the same universal message is conveyed. We have to keep our consciousness and harmony to the core.

Pragati mei vivek swapna eka vishva kaa, Yojnaa aneka dhyaan eka vishva kaa, Karma hai aneka lakshya eka vishva kaa, Pantha hai aneka dharma eka vishva kaa, Saadagee saheeshutaa samaanataa rahe ||2||

    11

Veeraprasavaa Jananee hai huma samaaj sanjeevanee

Manuja vansha kaa taara karatee huma hai bhaagirathee

Oh Sister! Oh Mother! You are the foundation of values for the family, one who shapes the character of the family. You give birth to children with valour. During the moral downfall of society, you are the one and only who gives hope to all. In other words, you are the River Ganga, whom Bhagirath brought down on the earth as a saviour to humanity.

Aankhon ke sammukha dhyeya hamaaraa sthir hai

Anushaasita mana mei samarasataa kaa swara hai

Aba chale saatha mei ubhaya karo mei dhvaja hai

Chaahe kitanee baadhaae ho jaya mei ho pariati

With such a great responsibility on our shoulders, we as Sevikas are very clear about our mission. We practice self discipline to help us not deter form this. Our efforts are promoting integration within the society we live in. Taking every individual with us we walk together to establish Dharma in society. Our Bhagva dhvaj is the symbol of Dharma. We are aware that this path is not easy. We sincerely request Mother Earth to grant victory to our efforts.

Ashabhujaa Devi Strotra Namo Ashabhuje devi, Lakshmi Paarvati Shaarade, Bhuddhi vaibhav do maatar, Hame do shakti saarvade |1|

We bow to Goddess Ashtabhujaa, Lakshmi, Paarvati and Shaaradaa (Sarasvatee). We request Goddess to impart knowledge to us and shower us with prosperity and glory, and to always give us strength. Sheela roopavatee naaree, Teree hee pratimaa bane, Dharma saskruti rakshaa se, Dhanya bhootala ko kare |2|

She is the symbol of women of great character and beauty. We should aspire to become like a reflection of Ashtabhuja Devi and be able to protect the heritage and religion of our great Bharat Mata. Sugandhita survaraabha, Sukomal saroj jo, Hasta me dhruta detaa hai, Paah nirlepa tum bano |3|

The Lotus in her hand asks us to be ever blooming and fresh as it is, to always give sweet and joyful fragrance to the society without harming anyone, irrespective of surrounding conditions just as the lotus.

    13

Mother Earth has a dream of her integrated (not one sided) development. There might be various models of development but sustainability of all entities should be kept in mind. Everyone can put their own efforts in various ways but still keeping the same sense of 'the world as one family'. Mechanisms may differ, but the whole world should be upheld by the same universal laws. We can bring equality through simplicity and patience.

Jaati hai aneka rakta eka vishva kaa, Pankti hai aneka lekha eka vishva kaa, Desha hai aneka bhaava eka vishva kaa, Kira hai aneka surya eka vishva kaa, Jaagara manushyataa samaanataa rahe ||3||

Despite there being different types of people, the same blood is flowing through each person. Diverse ways to express the same thought are appreciated. Each country should feel connected with each other (together contributing for the betterment of the Universe). As the single Sun illuminates the entire world by many rays, we expect awareness of humanity and equality to prevail.

Viraaga vikramo kee jo, Phaharaaye nabha me prabhaa, Bhagvadhvaja hai toone, Haatha me pakadaa mahaa |7|

Dhyeya kaa dhyaana naa bhoole, Kaarya me rata ho sadaa, Smaraee haatha kee detee, Hame sadesh sarvadaa |8|

The Smaranee (jaap mala) - teaches us how we should be consistent and focused to achieve our goals in life.

Ghaaa naada hame detaa, Nitya jaagruti vatsale, Nidraa aalasya me khove, Amola kshaa naa kadaa |9|

Ghanta or bell is there to always keep us alert and attentive to deal with any kind of situation and to drive away laziness and carelessness. She teaches us not to waste a single precious moment in laziness, ignorance and sleep.

    15

Geetaa-pradeepa jo detaa, Vishva ko dnyaan chetanaa, Kara me sthita hai tere, Snehale amba magale |4|

The Geeta in her hand gives the spirit of knowledge to enlighten the whole world, thus symbolizing the importance of knowledge in ones life to remove darkness of ego and ignorance. Sheela chaaritrya kee hove, Aabhaa prasruta paavanee, Agnikuda isee se hai, Pradeepta dhruta haatha me |5|

We should inculcate virtues for a good character so that our persona becomes bright like the holy fire in Agnikund (havan hearth). That is the significance of Agnikund in Devis hand. Trishoola hai liyaa maatar, Dusha sahaara hetu se, Khadga devee liyaa hai jo, Sajjana-traa bhuddhi se |6|

The Trishoola and Sword inspire us to fight for good/ justice and to remove all evil from the world.

Satee too padmajaa too hai, Too hai devee sarasvatee, Paritraaaaya saadhoonaa, Kaalee maa too yashomatee |11|

Ashtabhujaa Devi herself is the form of Goddess Satee (Parvati Maas previous avataar), Goddess Padmaja and Goddess Sarasvatee. For the protection of pure, pious and good people, Ashtabhujaa Devi also takes the aggressive form of Kaali Maa. For reasons of well being of her children, Ashtabhujaa Devi takes various different forms.
