Balloon BreathingThis is an excellent practice for bedtime.

Have your child come to a comfortable position laying on their back. Ask them toclose their eyes and place their hands on their belly. The following is a script you can

use to guide your child through Balloon Breathing:

Now feel your hands resting on your belly. Let your whole body feel as still aspossible and see if you can feel your belly moving with your breath. Feel yourbelly go up as you breathe in and your belly go down as you breathe out. Seehow slowly you can make your belly move. Your belly slowly lifts up as you

breathe in and your belly slowly lowers as you breathe out.

Still feeling your belly moving with your breath begin to think of your favouritecolour. See your favourite colour in your imagination. Think about why it is

your favourite colour. How does this colour make you feel?

Now imagine that their is a balloon in your belly. And this balloon is yourfavourite colour. Whatever your favourite colour is. Imagine now that everytime you breathe in your balloon in your belly gets bigger. And every time youbreathe out the balloon in your belly gets smaller. When you breathe in theballoon in your belly fills with air and gets bigger. And when you breathe out

the balloon in your belly releases the air and gets smaller.

Feel the balloon getting bigger and smaller with your breath and think againabout your favourite colour. See your favourite colour filling your belly. Thinkof how your favourite colour makes you feel and feel this feeling filling your

belly. Your whole belly is filled with the feeling of your favourite colour.

Allow your child to rest here feeling the balloon moving with their breath for aslong as they would like.

Garden GameThis game can be played as a group or just with yourself and your child.

1. Have your child or the children curl up into little balls, like child’s pose. Theseare the seeds we are planting in the garden.

2. Once all of the seeds have been planted, yourself or one of the other childrencan be the gardener, going to each seed and lovingly watering and caring for theseeds.

3. Guide the seeds’ growth as follows and you can do this with them too:

"All of the seeds feel the warmth of the sun on their backs and they want todiscover the source of this warmth so they begin to grow… very slowly… lifting their heads… using their hands... stepping up with one foot… and then the other… very slowly growing until we are all standing. And then the plants begin to become trees… picking up one foot and balancing on the other… placing your foot on the other leg… clapping your hands together… and growing the branches of your tree. And now here we are in the forest together.”

4. The children can then return to the earth as seeds from their tree to growagain. This process can be repeated as many times as you like with a differentchild getting to play the role of the gardener each time and being encouraged tobe as creative as they can with watering and caring for the seeds in the garden.

Blind Balance Challenge

1. Make sure there is enough space around yourchild or the children that they can extend theirarms and legs freely.

2. From standing have the children balance on onefoot and pick a pose. Encourage them to be ascreative as possible with their pose. Demonstratelow and high poses. demonstrate leg to the side, back and front options.

3. Allow them to find their balance in their poseand if they are able to balance like this, challengethem to hold their pose while moving their gaze tothe ceiling.

4. If they can still hold their pose, challenge themagain to close their eyes and still hold the pose.Make sure they know they can open their eyes atany time if they feel like they may lose theirbalance.

5. Once they have held this pose for a breath.Allow them to switch feet and choose a brand newpose, repeating this sequence.

6. Have fun and don’t take the challenge seriously. :)
