I wish I had more to report, but due to the Covid 19 virus there has not been much to report on. The Pension Board has been conduct- ing their business in closed meetings. The people that are getting ready to retire will be interviewed by phone. It sounds like they are trying to get some of the office duties back to a more normal status. They also stated that there will be no Health Care meetings thru the end of this year. Our annual audit has been postponed till May 21, 2020 due to the virus. We wanted to make it as safe as possible for the members involved. Local 67 has just opened its doors again. But are only allowing small numbers into the build- ing, maintaining the social distancing advised by the Governor. As of now we have cancelled the June meeting, but are looking into the possibility of a meeting in July. Any information regarding our meetings will be on the 4 Unit website until things get back to normal. After speaking with Bill Balthaser and Bob Elfine, we thought it best to postpone our An- nual Banquet till a later date, possibly in the fall. We are trying to keep our members as safe as possible, because most of us are in the high- risk category. Please check the website for the most current information. The 4 Unit Newslet- ter will be missing the minutes from the past two months due to those meetings being can- celled. Faternally, Gary A. Church. RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM MOM By Gary Siniff

Last fall I wrote down this thought and let it set and then shared it with a couple of retirees. A little of it was used last November. I thought maybe in today’s world I’d share it and think of today’s firefighter hero who is facing dangers we never thought of because they were in mov-ies not real life. May they protect each other as we did and someday be one of us. Yes, I know we were just doing our job and didn’t consider ourselves heroes, but to the kid you waved at from the truck and the life you just saved you will always be a Hero. Where have all the Heroes gone? We say they have PT’d to 5 Unit, a place of honor in our minds. I remember when a frequent visitor to Station 192 one Dennis George, CFD retiree would be teased about cheating the pension sys-tem having been retired for over 25 years. Den-ny has to be laughing because I am now a 25 year retiree along with a lot of others. In spite of the abuses to our minds and bodies our profes-sion heaped upon us, we have survived. Over the last 25 years myself and other Cen-tral Ohio Retired Firefighters have made the last visit to say goodbye to those who PT’d to 5 Unit. Sometimes we went out of respect and oth-er times we fought back the tears because we had spent a lifetime together sharing life’s ups and downs and they took a lot of our deepest secrets to their graves, things that we would not share with anyone else . It is good that firefight-ers have two families to get through life’s trav-els but twice as hard to say goodbye. Why is an old retiree writing these sad words, it’s because three firefighters who I have known for 50 years have PT’d to 5 Unit in a 3 week span and it made me think that we should cher-ish out time together and when those left behind need our help we are there because we are and always will be FIREFIGHTERS. This is not an article for the HOST Program, but as a post script I must write that is our finest moment to help a spouse left behind.

I have been privileged to be in community with police, fire and military veterans who suffer from PTS. The one factor they all have in com-mon is a medium to high ASES score. I don’t have the time or space to explain the meaning of the 10 question test and its effect on the human brain and body, but you can look it up on the Net (aces score). But in short; the test results show how your childhood history can and does affect how you brain handles the stress and trauma in our lives and the health affects both mentally and physically on our lives. Now the key word is history, some people call it baggage. Moses carried some baggage that affected his life, abandoned, confused identity, killed a man, slow of speech, etc. On top of all that he is confronted by God and uses his history to argue with God and his call to God’s service. God stops the argument when Moses asks (Exodus 3:14) God said “I am who I Am.” Stop looking back Moses. That’s what we do look back, tell the stories, judge each other, causing our brothers and sisters to ask who am I. Poet Helen Mallicoat (1913-2004) reminds us of the significance of that truth: I was regretting the past and feared the future. Suddenly My Lord was speaking: “My name is I Am.” He paused. I waited. He continued,” “When you live in the past, with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I WAS.” “When you live in the future, with its prob-lems and fears, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I WILL BE.” “When you live in this moment, it is not hard.

I am here. My name is I Am.” God is not bound by time He is in the past and the future. But those of us who are bound by time need to live life in the present. “And he walks with me and he talks with me and he tells me I am His Own.” Aren’t you glad God is the God of the here and now? Blessings to all. Chaplin Myron
