Students learn how to solve systems of equations by substitution.
This lesson gives students a simple method to always substitute
correctly without any crazy “tricks”. This simple organization for
each problem has proven extremely effective in helping students
not only solve correctly but remember the process on a long-term
basis.

Students learn how to solve systems of equations by elimination.
This lesson gives students a simple method to always eliminate
correctly without any crazy “tricks”. It helps weak students
develop a method that always works for finding the necessary
multiples, while it helps stronger students see ways to create
multiples that require less work and create equations with smaller
numbers.

This video is long and contains many practice word problems,
including both elimination and substitution. This video teaches a
system of organization that will help your students—yes, your
students—be successful with word problems. Getting students to
willingly attempt and then successfully answer word problems is
one of the greatest miracles a teacher can perform, and this video
is just what you need to make it happen in your classroom. I even
use this is my sheltered ENL classes, and students whose English
skills are very low can suddenly solve word problems! I don’t
believe in crazy tricks and gimmicks—just ways to help students
organize and remember information. Give it a try and become a
believer!

This activity will get your students out of their seats and working cooperatively in small groups.
They will use their algebra knowledge in order to solve problems.
This is one of one of our new creations, and it might just be the best game we have ever made! If
I put the same questions on a worksheet, I might hear groans. Instead, they see this as a game,
and they work hard to complete the story. Each correct answer gives students a piece of
information about a famous person, and they LOVE trying to figure out who it is!
All you have to do is post the questions around the room, assign students to groups, & give them
their answer sheets. The next thing you know, you have a classroom full of actively engaged
students who are working together to solve problems. Sound too good to be true? Try it, and you
will become a believer, too!

I am a National Board Certified math teacher with a Master’s degree in
education. I have a strange combination of Math and English Education
Bachelor’s degrees, in addition to a Master’s. This strange mix helps me to
be the word problem guru at my school. More importantly, I am married to
another math teacher who now stays at home full-time with our children. We
began this venture of Algebra Awesomeness at the end of 2012. What a
blessing! This store has helped me to share creations with other teachers and
to learn from them. It has also helped us to pay some huge, unexpected
medical bills for our son. Our family is incredibly grateful to you and to all
of our customers for their support. We cannot thank God enough for this
great blessing of an extra income and encouragement. Thank you!
