Why Get Windows 8?

Windows 8 is here, and with it comes the most profound interface overhaul

since the launch of Windows 95.

Among the most significant changes is the completely new Start Screen built

to replace the Start Menu which is now gone for good.

Such changes, and a strong bias towards touch-screen tablets PCs and other mobile

devices, have made Windows 8 one of Microsoft’s more controversial operating

systems.

Windows 8 is Faster

Although Windows 8 has slightly higher system

Besides running all of your old desktop applications, the Windows Store offers

access to tens-of-thousands of new apps designed specifically for Windows 8.

Some of these apps are available for a small fee, though there are numerous free apps as well.

Improved Cloud Computing

Access to the Cloud has been greatly enhanced with Windows 8, allowing a

seamless transition to multiple devices, using a new Microsoft Account.

You can associate this account with any email service such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail – it doesn’t have to be a

Hotmail or MSN account.

This feature also allows you to synchronize your settings with any other computers on which you have

a user account.

It also includes the integrated SkyDrive app which allows you to store some of your files

online free of charge.

In a time when file synchronization

and cloud computing is

becoming ever more widespread,

these new features will be embraced by

many.

New and Improved Features

Windows 8 is not just about tablet computers and touch-screens.

Windows 8 offers improvements to some of the key

features that many desktop and laptop

users have long enjoyed with

previous Microsoft operating systems.

The new Task Manager is much more powerful, with far more detail about

running programs, processes, and

system resources.

The new ribbon interface of

Windows Explorer provides a more

modern and user-friendly

experience.

New desktop themes can span multiple monitors, with color themes of borders and

the taskbar set to change automatically, depending on the desktop background.
