need to provide some of the materials yourself. The Club is starting in September on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm at the McNichols’.

This club would make you eligible to take the embellished crazy quilt club next year. Limit of 10 members. Leaders: Cheryl Weselake and Kathy McNichols

Woodworking ClubEver thought you’d like to start building your own creations out of wood? This is the club for

you. It’s the 4-H Woodworking Club. Come join us for some woodworking fun this year as we create something beautiful, with our time, our patience and our own hands. No experience necessary, however, you will be required to practise SAFETY 100% of the time. We will be meeting in late spring or early summer, mostly on Sundays from 11-4, so you need to bring your lunch and drinks for the day.

We will work until our projects are completed. This usually requires about 6 meetings. You will receive a phone call the week before the club starts.

Individual tool kits will be required (hammer, measuring tape, square, pencil, #8 square screwdriver, safety glasses, sandpaper and a sanding block). If electric tools are required, they will be provided and supervised. Club members, you are asked to bring a big box with your name on it to store your wood and other materials in. Woodworkers will be required to pay an extra fee of under $50.00 (usually around $40.00, a discounted price offered to us by Atkinson Home Hardware and Building Centre in Hartington). This will be collected from each member to cover the cost of the wood, screws and other materials.

In order to secure your spot in the club, this fee must be paid before the order for the wood is made. After the wood is ordered, we cannot guarantee the discount price or a spot in the club. If you would like to pay this fee at registration, please pay $40 cash. If the fee increases, it will only be a small amount depending on the price of the wood and we will let you know what the difference is in the club start-up phone call. Limit of 20 members in this club for safety reasons. First paid, first served. If you feel comfortable doing so, please leave an active email address (of a parent or guardian) to make contact during club time much easier. Thank you. Leaders of the Woodworking Club.... David McNichols, Richard Hird and Carmel Blackett

farm and other interesting facts.

Dairy Club The 4-H Dairy club may be for you if you would like

to visit Dairy farms with the latest innovative technology and you enjoy showing a dairy animal. Today's dairy farms are larger with robotic milkers, automatic calf feeders and rotary milking parlours to name a few. A part of the fun and learning in the club may involve a one day bus trip to see dairy operations in another region of Ontario! The Dairy Club would not be complete without livestock judging and the finer points of showmanship being covered as part of the meeting agenda.

The club will meet every 2 or 3 weeks in the evenings for the course of 5 or 6 meetings. You will need

access to a dairy calf to complete the project, but you do not need to own it. Members will also have the opportunity to attend several shows and ultimately the Royal Agriculture Winter Fair. For further information contact club leaders Kevin Maclean or Joe O'Neill.

Rabbit ClubThis year in the rabbit club we will continue to learn even more about

our beloved pets. Understanding our animals, what they eat, how to care for them and what to do in case of illness will form our basic lessons. Knowing how to identify different breeds and learning their unique features will help us understand our own rabbits better. We will also work with our rabbits in preparation of showing them at the Odessa, Centreville and Napanee Fairs. We will discuss the important features of our rabbits in order to impress the Judges with our knowledge and expertise. Meeting dates will include the following Saturday mornings from 10:00am - 12:00pm: April 21; May 5 &

19; June 2 & 16. In preparation for the fairs, we will also have meetings in July on at least two weekends (TBD) where we will work exclusively with our rabbits. If you have a rabbit, that’s wonderful, but not required – we have a few extras that you can work with if you need an animal.

If you have any questions prior to registration, please contact Jonathan or Johanna Leonhardt @ 613-378-6089 or [email protected]

Grow Your OwnThe Grow Your Own club is a club where you can learn to grow, from seed, some of the food

you eat every day. Do you want to be able to say “I grew that!” and taste the wonderful rewards of your labor? Fresh vegetables always taste better when you grow them yourself and you will be proud to share them with others. This year the club will focus on being able to classify and differentiate between fruits, vegetables and herbs, starting vegetables from seed and learning about food production crops. Part of our project for this year will be to enter a selection of our vegetables into the Napanee Fair for judging. Members do not need to have a garden at home (though it would be good to practice what we’ve learned), they will each have a small plot at the leader’s house that they can tend at each meeting.

Meetings will be held every second Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm-4:00pm on the following dates: April 22, May 6 & 20, June 3 & 17 as well as two more dates in July, including the evening before the Napanee Fair (2nd of August) when we choose the vegetables we will enter in the fair.

If you have any questions prior to registration, please contact Jonathan or Johanna Leonhardt @ 613-378-6089 or [email protected]
