(Toshokan)

Eight municipal libraries in Meguro are linked through a common computer network. You can also search books and reserve books from your PC at home. You can find a list of new arrivals of foreign books; at the “search by keyword”? http://www.meguro-library.jp Admission to the library and borrowing of the books are free and open to all. Among their collection of 1,110,000 books, 42,000 CD sets and various magazines, there are also about 3,600 foreign children books( 80% English). Please ask at the counter. You can borrow even toys at Meguro Kumin Center Toshokan, Senzoku Toshokan and Yakumo Chuo Toshokan. When you can’t find some books at libraries in Meguro City, you can borrow them from libraries in other areas. Books from the International Library of Children’s Literature can’t be brought home but can be reserved to be read in your local library. ◇ Closed Every Monday（open on holiday / closed on the following Tuesday）, national holidays, near the end of the year and New Year holidays. ◇ Lending( Kashidashi) When borrowing for the first time, please bring a document of identity such as: resident card (former alien registration certificate), driver’s license, student ID, a bill sent by post or a personal letter which indicates your name and current address(Passport alone is not sufficient). These are needed to issue a borrower’s registration card. Each time card-holders can borrow up to 20 items at any municipal library. . Submit the items with your card to the counter. ◆Activities for Babies at Children’s Halls Many children’s halls organize activities for newborn, toddlers and their mothers. It starts in September. The purpose of the activities is to make new friends.

◆ Infants’ Club (Nyuyoji Club) There are clubs in the Children’s Halls for mothers with children ages 0 to 3, where they can make friends and enjoy child-rearing. Registration is necessary to be a member of these clubs, and application should be made in April. It is free of charge. The activities

are held once a week from 10:30 to 11:30. You are allowed to register for only one club. 4.7 Going Out with Baby

l A B-type baby buggy with a shoulder strap is very convenient because you can carry it on your shoulder when you fold

◇ Trains l Prepaid card is convenient

because you don’t have to buy a ticket every time you take a train.

It is called “Pasmo” or “Suica” to take private railways ( shitetsu), subways (chikatetsu), buses and Japan Railways (JR).
