USED JOB SHACK INSIDER: PETSMART Pet Bather Interview - I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at PetSmart in December 2013. Interview Details – You apply online and receive a confirmation email. If someone likes what they see, they will call you. About a week after I applied, I received a phone call from the Assistant Manager (Operations Manager) to arrange an interview. The interview was casual and consisted mostly of self guided questions followed by a small amount of behavioral questions. I was at the end of that interview that I was a great candidate and that they would like to go ahead and schedule a second interview. The second interview was more like a deep conversation based on customer service standards with the majority of questions being behavioral interview questions. In both interviews the managers were frequently interrupted with operations necessary to the continuing function of the store. Though slightly disruptive, each disturbance was followed with an apology and sincere thanks for my patients. Interview Question – What was the most difficult customer experience I had ever had? (I was asked to walk them through it from the kickoff to the finish line. ------------------------------------------------- Cashier Interview - I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at PetSmart in November 2013. Interview Details – Applied online in 2013, called in for an interview with the Store Manager and Operations manager within a few days and hired on the spot. Interview Question – Standard interview questions...

• Why should I hire you? -------------------------------------------------- Pet Care Associate Interview - I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at PetSmart in November 2013. Interview Details – Applied online on a Friday. Got a call for an interview the following Monday. Interview was set up for the upcoming Thursday. Interviewed with a manager (not sure if operations or general manager) for about 35 minutes. She had a clipboard and told me that she had questions that she was required to ask. The first question I was asked was why I wanted to work at PetSmart. Second question was if I owned any pets, what kind, how long, and if I had experience with animals other than the ones I have owned. All other questions were hypothetical retail-based questions, such as if you are dealing with an angry/difficult customer, how would you handle the situation? If a customer asks you a question you don't know the answer to, how would you handle the situation? If there is a policy that you don't agree with, how would you handle it? How would you explain something technical in an easily understandable way to a customer/associate? Etc. It was a fairly straightforward interview. We talked about the dog that I had adopted from a local shelter that held its adoption drives in that particular store, how I'm an animal science major and had extensive knowledge of animal behavior, animal anatomy and physiology, and illness prevention techniques. When

she was done asking me questions, she brought in the second manager and she asked me to tell her a little about myself, etc. then she brought me out onto the floor where we did a role-play exercise. She played a customer with a daughter that had a Barbie themed room and wanted a fish tank to match. After that was over, they handed me the paperwork for a drug test and told me to go take it. Was worried about it, because one of my medications will give a positive. Told them this and she thanked me for my candor. At no point, did she or the lab techs write down any medications I was on. Lab tech told me that if it came back positive, a medical review specialist would contact me to get my prescription info and they would verify it. This never happened. Drug test results came back on Tuesday of the next week, and the manager that called me said that everything came back good and wanted to know when I could come in to start my training, and what shirt size I wear. Interview Question –

• If there is a policy that I didn't agree with, how would I handle it? ----------------------------------------------- Pet Care Associate Interview - I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at PetSmart in May 2013. Interview Details – Applied online at www.Petsmart.com got a call about a week later and was asked if I was interested in taking care of the smaller animals and to come in for an interview. We mostly talked about how to move up, previous experience, things like how often the cages are clean and what hours are like. Make sure you act like you actually want to work for and not just at PetSmart for money and hours. They will also ask about your previous and current jobs and how you liked them. Pet Care Associate Interview - I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at PetSmart in July 2013. Interview Details – I applied on PetSmart online and with each application you have to submit, you have to take a personality test. I applied to several PetSmarts and got called in for an interview for all of them and even offered a job at new opening that I didn't apply for. They said they loved my personality test. I only went to the one I was most interested (the new opening) and she scheduled an interview for me next week at the Marriott Hotel and it was very pretty, very professional. I went to the 7th floor where the interviews took place and the manager sat with me right away and asked me several scenario questions which weren't very hard but I would recommend looking these questions up and practicing like I did.

After the interview she sat me down at a bench watching a PetSmart introduction video, but I wasn't sure I got the job because other managers were doing interviews and everyone sat there. I was then called in to speak to another Interviewer, she was a manager at a different PetSmart and asked me generally the same questions as the first one, but I was caught off guard when she asked me to sell this post it notes to her, and I didn't know how Then she said she'll be calling everyone mid next week with their decisions I got called next Monday with a congratulations and that I was chosen :) but as a Guest Service Associate at the Pet's Hotel instead of a PetCare Associate which disappointed me greatly because I really wanted a lot of interaction with animals more than people but I took what I can get. I only had 1 interview and "got hired" on the spot, but would have to pass a drug test that they promptly gave me the lab work for and I went and took care of that right away.
