ADVOCACY OF THE INDUSTRY’S INTERESTS

The Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry is the only representative of the entire chemical industry in Poland. It is a powerful voice of this strategic sector of the economy in relations with various groups of stakeholders. The most important areas of our activity include the rights and interests of our Members and the economic and social aspects of their functioning.

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS

The Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry takes active part in hundreds of national and EU legislative processes and in the process of shaping regulatory solutions. We present the standpoint of the indu- stry to parliamentary and governmental bodies, central institutions, and EU authorities. We also con- duct legislative monitoring.

DEVELOPMENT

The Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry organises numerous conferences, seminars, and meetings dedicated to the most important aspects of the daily activity of the domestic chemical sector and the challenges faced by the entire industry. We search for the best pro-growth solutions for the whole sector. We prepare many substantive analyses representing both the entire sector and its individual constituents

PROTECTION

The Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry takes action aimed at protecting our members against di- sadvantageous solutions proposed by public and local administration bodies, EU authorities, and other organisations.

Key Themes

At our successful advisory board in March, we were able to delve into the fundamental issues facing the industry.

The core message from the board was that 2019 needed to address the long-term strategy for European downstream. We listened and created an agenda featuring the following themes:

CIRCULAR ECONOMY:

Minimizing waste is at the heart of today’s societal narrative and for good reason. Whilst growth and profit has been the focus across many industries for decades, downstream stakeholders are now rolling out sustainability strategies to improve efficiency and promote the reuse of its products.

ENERGY TRANSITION:

The energy landscape is changing with oil majors deciphering how they can fit in the future mix. What is the best strategy for refiners to remain competitive?

Page 8: 4-7 November 2019 Hilton Warsaw, Poland · 2020-03-03 · ertc.wraconferences.com We have a 10% discount available to local suppliers who are members of PIPC! **The discount is only

ertc.wraconferences.com

PETROCHEMICALS:

For refiners the alternative to the declining demand in diesel is to support the rising demand for petrochemicals. We will assess how refining-petchem integration could increase the profit for refiners, how they can maximise the potential of the FCC unit, and general petrochemical growth strategies.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY:

Without doubt the future of transportation is electric vehicles. Rather than ‘if’-, it is a matter of ‘when’ electricity will support the entire global transportation fleet. Sceptics of EVs argue that this shift is still in the distance, questioning the latest battery technology in terms of longevity, scale of production and cost. To address this divisive issue, we will hear from the Faraday Institution who are leaders in battery technology research.

DIGITALISATION:

Digitalisation has been discussed for many years but the tangible improvements have been questioned by the downstream community especially given the large investments required. As such, we will be focusing on case studies as well as the key areas where digitalisation can help including artificial intelligence, robotics and data sharing.

REGULATION:

Game-changing regulations are around the corner for downstream. Global refineries will have their IMO strategies in place for next year but understanding how to reach the magic number of 0.5% is still at the heart of the discussion. In addition, at a European level the Renewable Energy Directive II is also on the lips of many producers and how they can fit their role in the circular economy. By using recyclable feedstock there is room for producers to be involved in the Commission’s 2050 carbon-neutral vision.

ERTC Rising Stars

Rising Stars was created to support the downstream community by giving a platform to the best engineers and prospective leaders of the future. As such for the past three years we have invited process and maintenance engineers from refineries and petrochemical plants to answer an underlying question from our board.

From over a hundred applicants, our esteemed judges will whittle them down to five candidates who are given the opportunity to present in front of industry leaders with their vision. At the end there is only one winner and this voted by the 600+ audience attendees on the day.

“When I received the ERTC Rising Stars award, I also received a lot of congratulations from colleagues and friends around the world.Amazing! The whole experience has given me confidence and motivated me to continue promoting engineering to the next generation.”

Gala Dinner

In-Focus Workshop Day

On 7th November

To summarise the two key themes of digitalisation and regulation, we have created an In-Focus Workshop Day. Held in the round, we will explore cyber security, artificial intelligence in one stream and IMO and REDII in the other, with the opportunity to address the core challenges for industry players in the next decade.

Without doubt the industry needs to collaborate on these issues and at ERTC this is the best chance to do so. Alongside the streams we will have an opening outlook from Bain & Co, who will summarise the findings of ERTC 2019 before closing the day with Pop Up Business School creating a message and strategy for the industry.

On 5th November

When you register for the event, please make sure your reserve your place for the Gala Dinner full of entertainment, excitement and networking. Spaces are limited so book today to avoid disappointment!

Debate: This house believes that refineries must move away from producing liquid hydrocarbons to remain competitive in the energy transition. The debate will be preceded by a vote to determine the audience’s opinions on this current and divisive motion. Two teams (one for the motion and one against) will then have the opportunity to argue their case and contest their opposition’s claims. After the audience has had a chance to ask its questions, each side will provide their closing remarks before a second vote to decide the winner!
