The proposed modular power plant is designed for Base Load operation and is intended for power generation by means of 3 gas engine GenSets, for a total actual power output of 28 MWe. The main fuel is natural gas supplied from pipeline.
The system is designed for parallel operation with the public supply system and/or for operation in island mode, and can be easily adapted for peak load operation for electrical grid balance.
The project has been developed in collaboration with Wartsila.

ADVANTAGES OF GAS ENGINES Plant electrical efficiency of up to 50% in
simple cycle (54% in combined)
Minimal output derating due to high altitude and temperature
Quick start capability, full working load is reached in a few minutes
Stable, optimal efficiency in a wide range of partial load
Modular configuration enhancing flexibility, reliability and optimizing investment costs
Fuel flexibility: natural gas, LFO and HFO in dual fuel configuration
Low gas pressure requirements, allowing direct connection to pipeline without using gas compressors
Minimal utilities consumption and lowest environmental impact among fossil fuels power technologies
Gas Engines Technology Overview
GAS ENGINES TECHNOLOGY
Engine power plants Reciprocating engines are the most efficient means today of converting liquid or gaseous fuels into energy. They reach an electrical efficiency of 48% in simple cycle and up to 90% in CHP mode, and the single unit have a stable, optimal efficiency starting from 50% partial load.
Fuels The main fuel used is natural gas, the cleanest fossil fuel available, but Engines can be easily arranged in dual fuel configuration, using both gas as well as liquid fuels such as LFO and HFO.
Modularity & flexibility The entire plant output range can be optimized by means of multi-unit configuration. This allows, for example, to turn down the load of a 5 units plant up to 10% maintaining a best efficiency output. This is particularly suitable for peak demand power plants, where the load can be quickly adjusted according to actual grid power demand
Gas engines are fast to start-up, and even in the worst conditions they can reach the full load in a few minutes. Single unit operation can be stopped and restarted even several times per day without affecting plant efficiency and low maintenance requirements during its lifetime.
Adaptability to ambient conditions Gas engines are particularly suitable to withstand extreme ambient conditions, with minimal output derating due to high altitude or temperature.
A profitable investment The compact size, modularity and simple installation of gas engines power plants, compared to other popular power solutions, allow: - lower delivery time
- lower investment costs per MW installed
- faster payback time
- incremental investments, adding new units as the needs evolve
Environment Modern gas engines allows very low environmental impact. Emissions levels fulfill most of the emission requirements, without using secondary cleaning methods. Moreover, the use of air coolers reduces water consumption almost to zero, allowing plant operation even in remote locations.
