TEASER

FADE IN:

INT. ENTERPRISE - CORRIDOR

DOJAR walks along the corridor, passing by other crewmembersthat he doesn't even acknowledge as existing in his ownuniverse. Arriving at the door to Y'lan's lab, he walksinside.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Looking ahead, Dojar stops in his tracks as he sees Y'LANstanding there, holding a ball of string, with one loosethread dangling down to a kitten, which is frantically tryingto get it. Dojar is naturally intrigued.

Y'LANTesting the responses of the feline.

Beat.

DOJARWhy?

Beat.

Y'LANNotice how the feline is onlyinterested in the part of the stringthat is in front of it. No matterhow fast it is dangled, it continuesin its attempts to grasp hold of it.

(beat)Is it aware of all the string tofollow? All the string that is boundup in this ball.

Dojar walks towards Y'lan a bit, a frown extending onto hisface.

DOJARI don't understand, I'm not seeingany of this.

Y'LANYou are blinded by the questions, about what is, what was and whatwill be. For you, Dojar, the questionis to how you will understand theproblem the feline is facing.

DOJARAbout the string?

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 2.

Y'LANThe feline's thoughts are only onthe string. Is that due to single-minded desire, ignorance or lack ofunderstanding?

Dojar takes a moment to contemplate on that question as theship rocks from the impact of weapons fire.

Y'LAN (V.O.) (CONT'D)Here it begins...

Y'lan drops the ball of string to the floor, which startlesthe kitten into backing away. It cautiously watches theball as Dojar looks down at the feline as the ship rocksagain.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

The red alert klaxon, exploding consoles, frantic officersat their stations and a lot of chaos. The camera pans acrossthe entire Bridge where we see CROSS in the Command chair,TALORA in her first officer's chair, WHEDON at the Helm,QUINLAN at Tactical and KASDAN at Operations.

CROSSReport!

QUINLANDirect hit on the port nacelle. Shields at 92%.

KASDANCaptain, they've just transportedacross a boarding party.

CROSS(demanding)

I want those damn fighters out of myspace, now!

Another thundering bump sends Quinlan flying out of her seat. Talora comes racing over to the Tactical console and takesover.

TALORAFiring all weapons.

Talora works away at the control panel as Quinlan gets backto her feet.

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise is in close proximity to a cargo vessel astwo Cardassian fighters are unleashing volleys of weaponfire on the Enterprise, as it protects the cargo ship.

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3.

The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have the advantage, before they are rockedback with devastating weaponry from the Phoenix classstarship.

The two fighters turn around and begin to retreat.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Cross watches as the fighter warps away. He takes a deepbreath and relaxes as Quinlan takes over from Talora atTactical.

CROSSStand down from red alert. Quinlan, any lifesigns on the Valerian ship?

QUINLANYes, sir, I'm reading eight lifesignson the ship. Eight Valerian and oneCardassian.

Quinlan frowns.

QUINLAN (CONT'D)I'm also reading multiple weaponsfire. It appears that the lastCardassian is attacking the eight...make that seven Valerians.

CROSSI bet that's a Cardassian with theanswers to a lot of our questions.

Cross takes a moment to think to himself.

CROSS (CONT'D)Let's find out what this is all about.

Cross looks to Talora.

CROSS (CONT'D)Have Dojar report to the transporterroom, please, Commander.

TALORA(surprised)

Captain?

CROSSI think he could be of some helpover there.

Talora, reluctantly, nods in acknowledgment. Cross signalsto Quinlan to follow as they both walk over to the turboliftand EXIT.

EXT. SPACE

Focusing in on the damaged Valerian cargo vessel.

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CORRIDOR

Cross, Quinlan, Dojar and three other security officers re-materialize out of the transporter matter stream into a darkcorridor with minimal lighting that gives off a creepy andeerie vibe. The away team (except for Dojar) are allnaturally alert, with weapons in hand, as Quinlan gets out atricorder and begins to scan the area. She looks at Crossand points in two different directions.

Cross nods back at her and then two of the security officersbefore showing them what direction he wants them to go. Cross, Dojar and the last remaining security officer walkoff in another direction. They walk along very cautiously, making sure to take note of the entire area. Cross, himself, gets out a tricorder and scopes the area ahead.

Meanwhile, Quinlan and the two security officers are walkingtowards the mess hall. They arrive at the door and waitoutside, with their backs to the wall. Quinlan looks atboth of them, who nod in response to show that they are ready. Quinlan opens the door as the two security officers chargeinto the room with their weapons ready and... nothing. Quinlan follows soon afterwards and sighs, disappointed, asshe was expecting something but got nothing.

Cross, Dojar and the remaining security officer look arounda corner as the corridor veers off in a different direction. They notice a Valerian body on the ground, not moving. Thesecurity officer walks over to check its condition beforelooking up at his Captain and shaking his head to indicateno life.

Then, out of nowhere, gunfire hits the security officer andsends him onto his back. Cross and Dojar immediately movefor cover as they look down the dark corridor but can seenothing. Cross looks down at the security officer to seehe's not moving at all.

Looking down the corridor, Cross squints his eyes to try andget a better look. He then scans ahead and works away atthe tricorder.

CROSSI'm reading the lifesign , bearing(whatever). Transmitting the readingsto Quinlan.

Dojar looks down the corridor and begins to look deep inthought.

CROSS (CONT'D)Let's go.

Page 6: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 5.

Cross starts to move cautiously down the sides of thecorridor. Dojar doesn't follow him, but turns around andstarts to walk away.

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - SICKBAY

Quinlan and the other two security officers are walkingthrough sickbay, closely watching for any movement. Then, all of a sudden, a Cardassian female emerges from a cupboardand shoots at the group, giving herself enough time to leavethe room. Quinlan taps her commbadge and quickly pursues.

QUINLANQuinlan to Cross, we've found her, closing in.

Quinlan EXITS hastily.

Now in another area, Quinlan is running after the Cardassian, who is firing back at her. The Cardassian enters Engineering, followed soon after by Quinlan.

CUT TO:

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - ENGINEERING

Quinlan stands in the corner, behind some containers forcover, and looks around. Nothing. She starts to poke herhead above the container before phaser fire hits the containercausing her to pull her head back down. She looks out theside and sees the figure in the shadows on the maintenancelevel. She watches closely as the figure moves more intoview. At this time, Dojar walks into the room and sees thesituation for himself.

DOJAR(shouts)

No!

It's too late as Quinlan fires her phaser.

The Cardassian is hit, falls off the level and hits the floor. Quinlan takes a deep breath as she slowly stands up. Meanwhile, Dojar walks slowly over to the body, looks downat her face and is immediately saddened by what he sees.

Cross comes dashing into the room and joins Quinlan, standingjust behind Dojar, to see the situation for themselves.

CROSSDojar, are you okay?

DOJARI knew it was her.

CROSSWho is she?

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise hangs in space, in relative position to theValerian cargo vessel.

INT. ENTERPRISE - TRANSPORTER ROOM

Dojar re-materializes out of the transporter matter streamand walks forward as he EXITS the room, trying to maintain acertain posture.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - CORRIDOR

Dojar walks down the corridor, passing people withoutacknowledging them, just as he did earlier. He arrives at a turbolift and enters.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - TURBOLIFT

Dojar, alone in the turbolift, rests his arms up against theinside of the wall and takes a deep breath. All he can seein his mind is the face of the woman he once loved, now dead. The camera moves slowly towards his starry eyes...

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. FIELD - DAY

...the camera moves out of the eyes of a young Dojar (roughequivalent of an eight years old human) to reveal he issitting on a branch, in a tree, next to a young Cazna. Theirlegs are swinging back and forth as they stare into theeverlasting lushness of green.

CAZNAIsn't it pretty?

Dojar shakes his head as if he is trying to wake himself up.

DOJARWhat?

CAZNAI said it's pretty. All the green, all the trees, all the grass.

Dojar continues to try and shake himself out of it. Caznagives him a funny look.

Page 9: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 8.

CAZNA (CONT'D)What are you doing?

Dojar looks at Cazna and stops in mid-speech, amazed by whathe sees.

DOJARCazna?

Beat.

CAZNAWhy are you looking at me all funny?

DOJARI'm not.

(beat)I mean, I didn't mean to.

CAZNAYou're strange.

Dojar smiles.

DOJARYou always say that.

CAZNAThat's because you're a boy and boysare strange.

Dojar, clearly enjoying the moment, continues to lookadmiringly at the young Cazna.

DOJARGirls can be just as strange.

CAZNANot me.

Dojar smiles again.

DOJARNo, not you.

Beat.

CAZNAWill you miss me when I go tomorrow?

Dojar frowns.

DOJARGo? Where are you going?

CAZNATo the Art school in Lakat, remember?

Page 10: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 9.

Dojar takes a moment to think before he remembers.

DOJARAh, yes, of course I do.

CAZNAMy father says it's important tostudy art because it defines ourculture more than anything else.

DOJARMine says it's a waste of time.

Beat.

CAZNAIt's a shame you can't come with me. We won't be able to play Doctoranymore, or kiss chase.

Dojar smiles again, also partly blushing as he thinks aboutthose times.

He continues to stare at Cazna.

CAZNA (CONT'D)I better get going now. I don'twant to get into trouble again.

Beat.

DOJAROkay.

Cazna surprises Dojar with a quick kiss on the lips beforeshe quickly climbs down the tree and walks away.

DOJAR (CONT'D)Cazna...

Cazna stops and looks back.

DOJAR (CONT'D)I will miss you.

She smiles, turns around and continues to walk away, intothe distance.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - CONFERENCE ROOM

The present day Dojar sits in a chair, with the samereflective look that the younger version had.

CROSSDojar?

Page 11: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 10.

Dojar smoothly looks to his side to see Cross standing onthe other side of the conference room with Talora, Quinlan,GREY and ELRIS all sitting around the table, looking at him.

DOJARYes, Captain?

CROSSAre you listening to me?

Beat.

DOJARYes.

Cross takes a deep breath.

CROSSAs I was saying, the Valerian Captaininsists he can't think of a singlereason why the Cardassians wouldattack his ship. In fact, he iscurrently en route to Cardassia todeliver them some cargo supplies.

ELRISHow do we know we can trust him? The Valerians aren't the most nobleor trustworthy of species. Afterall, they did supply the Cardassianswith extremely pure weapons-gradedolamide during the occupation ofBajor. They always denied it, evenwhen proof was finally discovered.

TALORAThat also makes me wonder why theValerians would be attacked byCardassians, en route to Cardassia, after years of such a healthy tradingrelationship.

CROSSA lot of this doesn't make sense. The Cardassian government has suppliedus with records on all the individualsinvolved but nothing appears to beout of the ordinary.

Cross looks to Dojar, who once again appears to be in a worldof his own.

CROSS (CONT'D)Is there anything else you can tellus? Anything about Cazna Miran?

Beat.

Page 12: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 11.

DOJARShe was an artist. She worked in amuseum in Lakat city on Cardassia.

She had a love for all kinds of art from many different kindsof species and cultures.

GREYThen what she was doing on a cargovessel, attacking Valerians in thedepths of space?

Dojar glances at Grey for a moment but doesn't respond.

CROSSThere appears to be a lot here thatwe don't know, too much even.

(beat)The Valerians have requested to getunderway at once. They seem eagerto get to Cardassia and deliver theircargo.

QUINLANThat seems a little strange, especially after this recentencounter.

TALORAWe answered their distress call andhelped them in their time of need. If they want to go, I think we shouldlet them.

ELRISYou think someone will attack theValerians again?

GREYThey won't if the Enterprise escortsit through Cardassian space.

CROSSI think that, if someone wants thatship bad enough, Enterprise or noEnterprise, they will attack.

(beat)I've already made my report toStarfleet and, in light of thesituation, have requested orders onhow next to proceed. In the meantime,we'll let the Valerians get underway and escort them to Cardassia.

(beat)Any questions?

There is no sign that anyone wants to speak.

Page 13: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 12.

CROSS (CONT'D)Dismissed.

Cross, followed by the others, begin to EXIT the conferenceroom, except for Dojar. Talora is about to leave as wellwhen she stops and looks back at Dojar.

TALORA(concerned)

Are you okay, Gril?

Dojar doesn't respond, but looks over at Talora.

TALORA (CONT'D)I know Cazna Miran meant a lot toyou. Maybe it would help to talkabout it.

Dojar shakes his head.

TALORA (CONT'D)Are you sure?

Dojar nods in response.

TALORA (CONT'D)I see.

The atmosphere can be cut with a knife as Talora EXITS. Dojar stares at the door.

DOJAR (V.O.)Something is happening to us.

Y'LAN (V.O.)No, something is happening to you.

DOJAR (V.O.)But we are one, we are the same. Whatever happens to me, happens toyou.

Y'LAN (V.O.)No.

Dojar sits there, looking slightly confused.

DOJAR (V.O.)Then what is happening to me?

Beat.

Y'LAN (V.O.)Understanding.

Dojar sits in his chair and rubs his eyes as he tries to geta grip of himself.

Page 14: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

EXT. SPACE

The Valerian Cargo Vessel, followed by the Enterprise, entersinto warp.

INT. ENTERPRISE - DOJAR'S QUARTERS

Dojar enters the room, walks over to his mirror, opens thecompartment beneath and splashes his face with water. Hestares at his reflection as he sees an image of events comeinto his mind.

IMAGE OF EVENTS - DARK ROOM

Dojar is standing in the corner of the room, his hands leaningup against the two walls as he looks down at a potted plant. We can see a vine growing out of the dirt.

CAZNA (O.S.)What is it, Dojar?

Beat.

DOJARIt's everything.

CAZNA (O.S.)And what does it mean to you?

Beat.

DOJARNothing.

CAZNA (O.S.)Show me.

Dojar begins to slowly turn around as the camera changes toshow the reaction of a mature Cazna as she stands there, below a spotlight, in the dark room and looks shocked atwhat she sees.

INT. ENTERPRISE - DOJAR'S QUARTERS

Dojar brings himself out of the moment and splashes his facewith water again.

He closes the compartment, walks over to his bed and letsout a relaxing sigh as he lies down and closes his eyes.

FADE TO:

EXT. STREET - DAY

Dojar (rough equivalent of a fifteen year old human) ridesalong the Cardassian equivalent of a motorbike, when hesuddenly blinks and looks out of it.

Page 15: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT ONE 14.

DOJARWhat, where am I?

Dojar, not paying attention, is then thrown to the groundwhen he hits something that creates a huge explosion. Helies there, on his back, groaning as people come from allaround to his rescue.

CAZNA (O.S.)Dojar?

Cazna pushes her way through the crowd and leans over Dojar.

CAZNA (CONT'D)Dojar, are you okay?

Dojar, with a noticeable cut on his head, tries to get upbut can't.

DOJARMy right arm hurts, I think it'sbroken.

Cazna looks at his right arm briefly.

CAZNAYou must have hit one of the old theinterdimensional mines. They appearin this area every few years or so.

Cazna turns around to the crowd.

CAZNA (CONT'D)Get some help!

A few Cardassians turn around and run away as Cazna looksback to Dojar.

CAZNA (CONT'D)(beat)

Dojar, what are you doing here?

Beat.

DOJARI came to see you.

Cazna smiles.

CAZNAIt has been a while, I bet you wishyou didn't come now.

Beat.

DOJARNot for a moment.

Dojar and Cazna smile as they look into each other's eyesas...

INT. ENTERPRISE - DOJAR'S QUARTERS

Dojar opens his eyes as they move from side to side, processing information and trying to work things out. Momentslater he stands up and EXITS.

INT. ENTERPRISE - SICKBAY

Dojar stands there, in front of a confused Elris.

ELRISI still don't understand. Why doyou want me to scan your arm to seeif it was broken years ago when, clearly, you know it was brokenotherwise there would be no point inasking?

Elris takes a deep breath, emphasizing the long speech.

DOJARDoctor, could you just check the armand compare it to the medical records?

Elris sighs and nods in acknowledgment. She scans over thearm with a medical tricorder and then walks over to her laptopcomputer. Moments later she walks back over to Dojar andstands in front of him.

DOJAR (CONT'D)Well?

ELRISYour arm was broken on Stardate59141.6, as recorded on your medicalfile and just confirmed by mytricorder.

Dojar nods in acknowledgment, putting the pieces together inhis mind. He turns around and EXITS, as Elris stands thereand shakes her head in confusion.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Cross sits in the Command chair, with no other senior officeron duty. KASDAN is sitting at Operations.

KASDANCaptain, a ship is dropping out ofslipstream.

Delfune disappears from the screen as Cross stands there andtakes a deep breath.

CROSS (CONT'D)Well, what do you know, things justgot even more interesting.

Cross stares ahead at the viewscreen.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Y'lan is working away at the control panel of his maincomputer when Dojar enters. Dojar gets Y'lan's attention.

DOJARYears ago, I broke my arm when I hita mine on my way to visiting Cazna. I didn't remember till earlier but, just before it happened, I had thisstrange experience like I was there, but wasn't in control of my own body.

(beat)Was I daydreaming or did somethingelse happen?

Beat.

Y'LANYou are on the path to understanding.

Dojar sighs, the frustration starting to come through.

DOJARBut what is happening to me?

Y'LANIf you don't learn how to controlit, everything will unravel.

Dojar, still in disbelief, stands there, not listening towhat Y'lan is saying.

DOJAR(snappy)

Y'lan... tell me what is happening!

Beat.

Y'LANYou are using your mind to travelacross time and relive moments ofyour past.

ACT TWO

FADE IN:

INT. ENTERPRISE - TRANSPORTER ROOM

Cross and Talora stand there, waiting, as Delfune re-materializes out of the transporter matter stream.

CROSSAdmiral, welcome aboard.

DELFUNEThank you, Captain, Commander.

Talora nods back at Delfune, out of respect.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)I'm glad the two of you are herebecause I need to speak to both ofyou about something.

Cross and Talora look at each other, curious.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)But, of course, it's something todiscuss in private.

Delfune walks out of the door and EXITS leaving Cross andTalora standing there, wondering what this is all about.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

As before.

DOJARThere has been no previous indicationthat I have such an ability.

Y'LANIt is not important. What you mustdo now is control it.

DOJARControl it? How can I controlsomething I don't even understand?

Beat.

Y'LANYes.

Dojar closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, regaining hiscomposure. He stands there and stares at Y'lan who watcheshim and nods in acknowledgment.

INT. ENTERPRISE - CONFERENCE ROOM

Cross and Talora sit at the table as Delfune, with her handsbehind her back, paces around the room.

DELFUNEStardate 79883.1, recognize it?

Cross frowns.

CROSSSorry, no, should I?

TALORAIt was when the Enterprise arrivedat Starbase 47.

DELFUNEYes, it was the start of a ratherinteresting chain of events. Recordsshow that you were relieved of commandof the Enterprise and sent on a highlyclassified mission.

CROSSThat's correct.

DELFUNEAnd Captain Robert Williams was placedin command of the Enterprise as itwent onto a diplomatic mission toCardassia, the reasoning for thisalso being classified.

Beat.

CROSSAnd you want to know why?

Delfune stops, at the other end of the table, and looks atCross.

DELFUNEYes.

Cross sighs.

CROSSI wish I could tell you, Admiral, but we both know that I'm not allowedto discuss any information fromclassified missions.

Delfune nods in acknowledgment and walks closer to Cross.

DELFUNEYes.

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 21.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)(beat)

But I had hoped you would tell me,off the record, in the spirit of ournew working relationship.

Beat.

CROSSCan I first know why you want thisinformation? After all, you areasking me to put my head on the lineand divulge classified information.

Delfune takes a moment to think about it.

DELFUNEVery well.

She continues to, once again, pace around the room.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)I received a report a few weeks agoof a newly developed Cardassianweapon. A state of the art weaponthat was patrolling Cardassian spaceand attacking any vessel that violatedits space. Then, it came to myattention that last year one CaptainNeil Cross, for about four days, wason a classified mission, even fromme.

(beat)All I had to connect the dots wassome information that Captain Crosswas in fact secretly inside Cardassianspace, dealing with this weapon.

(beat)After hearing all this, I had tolook further into the matter anddiscovered that the Enterprise wentto Cardassia. What for? Once again, classified.

(beat)I had to call in some big favors toget some interesting reports thatrevealed a much bigger plot. Onethat involved people on Cardassia, peaceful, artistic citizens who wereforming protest groups against thegovernment. Why? Because their artand culture was being annexed tohelp fund military projects. Soundfamiliar?

Page 23: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 22.

CROSSYes, in the past, the Cardassianpeople, had a rich art and culturethat was sold to fund war efforts.

Delfune nods in acknowledgment.

DELFUNEAnd, as history does, it is nowrepeating itself with the samehappening all over again. However, this time, people aren't willing totake it lying down.

(beat)They've acquired resources, shipsand weapons, in a bid of protestagainst the military. The attack onthe Valerian ship was one of theseprotests.

(beat)The only question is why such a groupwould use half of their arsenalagainst one, seemingly insignificant, target.

TALORAAdmiral, if I may ask, what doesthis have to do with what happenedlast year?

DELFUNEThat's what I'm trying to find out.

Delfune looks to Cross, who takes a deep breath.

CROSSI was ordered to take a team todestroy a dangerous Cardassian weapon. We achieved that mission.

Cross looks to Talora and nods.

TALORAThe Enterprise was ordered to confrontwith the Cardassians about thisweapon. We did just that.

DELFUNEAnd what happened with thatconfrontation?

Delfune looks to Cross.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)What was the weapon you were sent todestroy?

Page 24: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 23.

Cross sighs.

CROSSSorry, Admiral, but we can't tellyou anything else. We've told youtoo much already.

Delfune nods in acknowledgment.

DELFUNEI understand your position, Captain. However, I had hoped you would showmore trust in me.

(beat)All this background information mayhave been off the record but why Iam here is not. I want that shipboarded, I want the cargo bay searchedand I want you to see to itpersonally, Captain.

Cross seems slightly surprised.

CROSSMe?

DELFUNEConsidering the current circumstances, you are clearly the best man for thejob. I want it searched within thehour.

CROSSYes, Admiral.

DELFUNEI'll be remaining on the Enterprisefor the duration of this mission.

Delfune looks to Talora.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)Commander, please escort me to theBridge.

TALORAYes, Admiral.

Talora takes a quick glance at Cross before she escortsDelfune out of the room. Cross sits there and rubs his headas he wonders what is going on.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Dojar is standing in the same place as before, with Y'lanwatching over him. Dojar blinks his eyes as he starts tolook like he is struggling.

Page 25: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 24.

DOJAR (V.O.)I can't.

He puts his hand up to his head and tries to shake away afew cobwebs.

DOJAR (CONT'D)I can't do it.

Dojar collapses to the ground as Y'lan moves over to him. He picks up the Cardassian and puts him into some kind offuturistic chair that is connected into a machine.

Y'lan walks over to his machine and starts working away atthe control panel as Cross walks into the room. He looks atthe situation and shakes his head.

CROSSI don't think I want to ask what isgoing on here.

There is no response from Y'lan as he continues working away.

CROSS (CONT'D)Y'lan, why did you tell me about theValerian ship? How did you know itwas going to be attacked?

Once again, there is no response as Cross turns his attentionto the unconscious Dojar.

CROSS (CONT'D)Is he okay?

Beat.

Y'LANYes...

(beat)And no.

CROSSWhat's wrong with him?

Y'LANHis mind needs help, just like yoursonce did, but in a different way.

CROSSSomething to do with being partQ'tami?

Y'LANYes.

Cross nods in acknowledgment.

Page 26: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 25.

CROSSI know this is probably the wrongquestion to ask you, but... why? Why did you ask me to take Dojaronto the Valerian ship? Why did wecome here in the first place?

(beat)Y'lan, what is this entire situationall about?

Beat.

Y'LANLife, time and understanding, Captain.

Cross nods in acknowledgment, not really understanding whatY'lan has said but shrugging it off anyway.

CROSSI hope getting involved with thisship doesn't come back to haunt me,Y'lan.

There is no response as Y'lan continues his work at hiscomputer console. Cross walks out of the room as the camerafocuses on Dojar.

He is sitting in the chair, with his eyes closed andflickering as if he is dreaming. Y'lan observes him andworks away at the control panel.

INT. ART MUSEUM - DAY

Dojar and Cazna (both equivalent of about eighteen Earthyears) are walking down a row of Cardassian paintings. Theylook over at one another and smile. Cazna looks to her sideand notices a painting of particular interest causing her tostop Dojar.

CAZNAThis is something you've got to see.

Dojar looks over the painting.

DOJARThe sunset of Alfa 117.

Cazna looks surprised, much to the amusement of Dojar.

CAZNAHow did you know that?

DOJARI've been studying.

CAZNAStudying?

Page 27: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 26.

DOJARArt, music, archaeology...

CAZNA(interrupting)

I'm impressed. What made you decideto do that?

Beat.

DOJARYou did.

CAZNAMe?

Dojar nods in acknowledgment.

DOJARSeeing how much it all meant to you,how much you appreciate and admireit, made me want to learn about itas well.

Cazna looks taken back by that revelation.

CAZNAI thought that art was a "waste oftime" in your eyes.

Dojar shakes his head.

DOJARNo, that was what my father told me.

(beat)But I'm not my father and I don'tthink it's a waste of time.

Dojar and Cazna just stare at each other, losing themselvesin the eyes of the other. Moments later, Cazna clears herthroat and smiles as she tries to regain her focus.

CAZNAWell, I'm glad to hear that becausethere's plenty more to see.

They continue to walk along, looking at the various exhibits.

DOJARI'm leaving for the security academytomorrow. It's an isolated trainingprogram, I'm not allowed off thepremises.

CAZNAHow long will you be gone?

Page 28: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 27.

DOJARA year, maybe more.

Beat.

CAZNAIt's funny how our paths keep crossinglike this. We've known each otherfor such a long time, but, in a way,we hardly know each other at all.

DOJARExcept for what we know of each otherfrom all those times of playingDoctor.

Cazna chuckles slightly.

CAZNAThat feels like such a long timeago.

DOJARThat's funny, because it feels justlike yesterday to me.

Cazna smiles as silence hits their conversation for a moment, with each of them not sure who should make the next move.

CAZNAIt's a shame, because, this time, Iwas hoping that we could get to knoweach other better.

Dojar, sensing that Cazna is getting at something, decidesto play it smooth.

DOJARHow do you mean?

CAZNAYou don't need to be coy with me,Dojar, you know what I'm talkingabout.

Dojar nods in acknowledgment as the two of them stop talking.

DOJARI wish I knew what to say.

CAZNAYou don't have to say anything, Gril,we're different people who wantdifferent things from life.

DOJARBut there's one thing we both want.

Page 29: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT TWO 28.

Dojar struggles to say the words. Cazna, seeing this, inchesslowly forward and kisses Dojar in what becomes an intimateand passionate embrace. They each take a few moments totake in what just happened between them.

CAZNAMaybe this is for the best anyway.

DOJARWhy do you say that?

CAZNAA year apart can allow us to decidewhat we mean to each other. It canmake us stronger and, if we stillfeel the same in a year, we knowwe've got something special.

DOJARI knew we had something special fromthe moment you kissed me as a child.

Beat.

CAZNAWhen you're finished with yoursecurity training, come looking forme. You'll know where to find me.

Cazna walks away as Dojar stands there and sighs.

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise and Marshall are both following the Valeriancargo vessel, now at impulse.

CROSSCaptain, I am under orders topersonally check your cargo hold.

CAPTAIN(adamant)

You can't do that! You don't havethe authority!

Page 30: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

CROSSLook, Captain, I have my orders. Whether I like them or not isn'timportant, I just have to do them. Now, you can either accept that factand let us do our job or you canresist us and pay the price.

Beat.

CAPTAINAre you threatening me, Cross?

CROSSNo, Captain, I am not threateningyou, I am telling you that, if youmake this hard, there's a good chancethat you will get hurt.

The Valerian Captain smiles.

CAPTAINAre sure you want to do this?

Cross rolls his eyes and sighs.

CROSSDo I really have to tell you again?

Beat.

CAPTAINVery well.

Cross nods in acknowledgment as he signals to the rest ofhis party and they EXIT. The Valerian Captain, not lookinghappy, nods at one of his men before following the others.

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CORRIDOR

Cross and his party stand outside of the Cargo hold door.Quinlan tries to open the door via the access panel.

QUINLANIt's locked.

Cross looks to the Valerian Captain.

CROSSOpen it.

CAPTAINOnce again, I must protest.

CROSS(frustrated)

Just open the damn door.

Page 31: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

CAPTAINAs you wish.

The Valerian Captain walks over to the access panel and opensthe door.

CUT TO:

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CARGO HOLD

Two security officers enter the room and begin to scope itout. Cross, Quinlan and the others hold back. After a quickcheck, the two security officers nod at each other. One ofthem then looks to Cross.

SECURITY OFFICERIt's clear, Captain.

Then, from out of nowhere, a Cardassian figure appears frombehind the Security officer and snaps his neck. It's theCardassian Virus (from "To Be Someone")! The other securityofficer fires his weapon at the Cardassian but it has noaffect. Cross looks shocked.

CROSSOh, god. Fall back!

Cross closes the door.

CUT TO:

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CORRIDOR

Cross, and the others, start to back off from the door.

QUINLANSir, what about...

A loud scream can be heard from the Cargo hold.

CROSSHe's gone. Let's get out of here,people!

They run down the corridor as the Valerian Captain standsoutside of the door and smiles to himself.

CAPTAINDon't say I didn't warn you, Cross.

The Virus moves through the door and walks down the corridorin the same vein as Robert Patrick's T-1000 (from Terminator2).

Our intrepid heroes run down the corridor, with the Virusstill walking as evenly paced as ever. Cross taps hiscommbadge.

CROSSCross to Enterprise, emergency beamout, now!

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Talora is sitting in the Command chair, with Delfune sittingbeside her, in the Executive officer's chair.

TALORATransporter room, get them out ofthere!

CHIEFI can't, sir, there appears to besome sort of dampening field in place.

TALORACaptain?

No response. Delfune taps a button on her control panel.

The party look down the corridor as they see the Virus slowlywalking towards them.

QUINLAN (CONT'D)I know we're in trouble.

CROSS(assertive)

Arm weapons.

Cross takes a deep breath and walks to the front of the group, with everyone else behind him pointing their phasers at theVirus.

VIRUSCaptain Neil Cross, it's good tofinally meet you.

CROSSWhat do you want?

Beat.

VIRUSTo kill you.

Cross gulps as the Virus continues to walk closer. Then, the ship shudders slightly causing particular interest fromthe Virus as it processes information.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

As before.

KASDANCommander, the Marshall has locked atractor beam on the Valerian ship.

Talora looks to Delfune.

TALORAAdmiral, what is going on here?

Delfune doesn't respond as she continues to stare ahead atthe viewscreen.

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CORRIDOR

The Virus continues to process information and thendisappears. Cross looks at Quinlan, frowning and confused.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

DELFUNEGood work, Captain, beam me back.

TALORA(demanding)

Admiral, what the hell is going onhere?

Delfune doesn't respond as she de-materializes into thetransporter matter stream.

KASDANCommander.

Talora looks at the viewscreen.

EXT. SPACE

The Marshall releases the tractor beam from the Valerianship and shoots off into slipstream.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

As before.

CROSS'S COMM VOICECross to Enterprise.

TALORA(concerned)

Captain, are you all right?

INT. VALERIAN CARGO VESSEL - CORRIDOR

Cross looks around at the rest of his party, clearly on edgefrom the entire experience.

CROSSWe're just about in one piece. Whathappened?

TALORA'S COMM VOICEThe Marshall put a tractor beam ontothe Valerian ship after AdmiralDelfune said "the cat was out of thebag". Soon after, they beamed theAdmiral back and went into warp withCaptain Cajal saying "the cat wasback in the bag".

Cross looks intrigued.

TALORA'S COMM VOICE (CONT'D)Any idea what they were talking about,Captain?

CROSSYes, Commander, I know exactly whatthey were talking about.

Cross takes a deep breath as he contemplates everything thathas just happened.

EXT. CARDASSIAN STREET - NIGHT

The Virus walks down this deserted and ravaged street at theestablished T-1000 style of walking.

INT. MARSHALL - OBSERVATION ROOM

The camera is fixed on the door as Delfune enters and looksat the viewscreen.

The camera moves back to reveal Captain CAJAL is also standingthere, watching, with a technician, SOWARDS, sitting at acontrol panel, working away.

CAJALIs it everything you expected?

Delfune nods in acknowledgment.

DELFUNEAnd hopefully more.

Delfune looks down at Sowards.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)Can you rewrite its programming?

SOWARDI've been looking at the subroutines,and if I --

DELFUNE(impatient)

Can you do it, yes or no?

Beat.

SOWARDSYes.

DELFUNEGood, because I have an idea or twoabout what we can do with our newtoy.

Delfune smiles as the camera moves around to show the threeof them watching the viewscreen where the Virus continues towalk down a Cardassian street as we...

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT TWO

ACT THREE

FADE IN:

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise holds in space near the Valerian cargo vessel.

INT. ENTERPRISE - READY ROOM

Cross, Talora and Quinlan enter the room and stand besidethe door.

CROSSWe now have more pieces of the jigsaw, but with no idea which pieces gowhere or what the final picture issupposed to be. From what Delfunesaid, it's clear they have the Virusand that's what they were after allalong.

QUINLANBut why?

TALORAPerhaps this is linked with herquestions about our missions fromlast year.

QUINLANBut we destroyed that Virus on theTrafalgar. How the hell could itend up on a Valerian cargo vessel?

CROSSAnother piece of the jigsaw puzzle,Lieutenant.

TALORABut it's safe to assume that theVirus was there to protect something.

CROSSThe cargo?

TALORAYou never did get to check what wasinside, and that was where the Virusdid appear.

QUINLANThe Marshall did also take all thecontents of the cargo bay.

Page 37: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 36.

CROSSSo, Delfune came here asking usquestions about our missions fromAdmiral Bicknell and then took theVirus and cargo from the Valerians.

TALORAAnd let's not also forget that CaptainWilliams made a deal with theCardassians last year. We neverfound out what it was for.

Cross stands there and thinks it all over.

CROSSIs that what this has all been about? The Virus?

(beat)After all, it is a revolutionarypiece of technology and somethingany race would love to get its handson.

QUINLANAnd you think Williams, and Starfleet, made a deal with the Cardassians forthat technology?

CROSSMaybe not Starfleet itself. Maybe afaction of Starfleet.

Beat.

QUINLANSomeone like Janus?

CROSSDelfune was very keen to get to thebottom of all this. We know she isnot involved with Janus, but perhapsshe believes someone else is. Like,Admiral Bicknell and Captain Williams, for example.

(beat)However, we can't start thinkingeverything around here is connectedto Janus. That will only lead toparanoia and second guessing ourselvesat every turn.

QUINLANBut if Delfune has now got her handson the Virus, won't she use it forher own agenda?

Cross sighs.

Page 38: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 37.

CROSSIt doesn't matter what she wants itfor or whose side she's on. ThisVirus is too dangerous in anybody'shands, it's a weapon like no other.

QUINLANSo, what are we going to do aboutit?

Cross stands there and thinks over his options before tappinghis commbadge.

CROSSCross to Bridge.

WHEDON'S COMM VOICEWhedon here, sir.

CROSSEnsign, plot a pursuit course forthe Marshall.

WHEDON'S COMM VOICEAye, sir.

Beat.

TALORAWe're going after them?

CROSSI don't see that we have any otherchoice.

INT. MARSHALL - OBSERVATION ROOM

Delfune and Cajal continue to watch the viewscreen, withSowards working away at the control panel. On the screen, the Virus is now walking at inhuman speeds.

CAJALWhat is it doing?

SOWARDSIt's trying to break the holodeckprogramming by sending informationfaster then the computer can processit. Hoping to cause an overload inthe system matrix and turn the roomfrom being an endless world intobeing... just a room.

DELFUNECan it do it?

Sowards scoffs.

Page 39: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 38.

SOWARDSNo way! I designed this baby myselfand there is no way it will be ableto do that.

CAJALIt better not, otherwise we may bein some trouble.

SOWARDSI doubt it. Even if it did manageto escape, there are no holoemitterson this ship anywhere. Without them, where could it go?

(beat)This puppy ain't going anywhere.

They all continue to watch the screen as the Virus stopswalking.

EXT. CARDASSIAN STREET - NIGHT

The Virus looks like it's processing information as itdisappears...

And reappears, then disappears again...

And reappears. The trend keeps happening as the pace getsfaster and faster.

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise shoots through space at slipstream.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Y'lan continues to work away at the control panel, with Dojarstill sitting down in the chair, connected up to the machine. His eyes are flickering away.

TALORA (O.S.)What's going on, Y'lan?

Y'lan looks to his side to see Talora now inside the room.

TALORA (CONT'D)I came down here to see how Gril wasdoing. He doesn't look too good tome.

Y'LANIt is a complicated situation,Commander.

TALORATry me.

Page 40: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 39.

Y'LANVery well. The recent stress onDojar's mind, caused by the death ofCazna Miran, has resulted in hismind sub-consciously crossing intohis past, reliving those events.

Talora stands there and tries to take it all in.

TALORAWhat?

The camera begins to move towards Dojar as Y'lan explainsfurther in the fading sound of the background.

IMAGE OF EVENTS - DARK ROOM

Dojar is standing in the corner of the room, his hands leaningup against the two walls as he looks down at a potted plant. We can see one big vine growing up, with other, smaller vinesnow growing out the sides of it.

CAZNAWhat is it, Dojar?

Beat.

DOJARIt's everything.

CAZNAAnd what does it mean to you?

Beat.

DOJARNothing.

CAZNAShow me.

Dojar slowly turns around as the camera changes to show thereaction of a mature Cazna as she stands there, below aspotlight, in the dark room and looks shocked at what shesees. The camera cuts back to show Dojar, one side of himQ'tami and the other side Cardassian.

DOJAR(Q'tami voice)

It all means nothing.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Dojar wakes up, with a huge fright. Alarms start to ring onY'lan's console as Talora looks concerned.

Page 41: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 40.

TALORAWhat's going on now?

Y'LANAn unexpected turn of events.

Talora walks to Dojar.

TALORAGril, can you hear me?

Gril, are you all right?

Dojar's eye close again.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ART MUSEUM - DAY

Dojar, in security gear, with other members around him, standsoutside the building, guarding it, as a huge crowd ofCardassians protest. In the crowd, Cazna appears, confused, and speaks to another Cardassian.

CAZNAWhat's going on?

CARDASSIANThey're doing it again, they're takingit all.

CAZNAWhat?

CARDASSIANA Kevoan collector offered theCardassian government a huge amountof resources for the museum'scollection of art and they accepted.

CAZNA(furious)

What? They can't do that! Theydon't have the right.

CARDASSIANIt doesn't matter, they're doing itanyway.

Cazna pushes her way to the front of the crowd and thennotices Dojar, who also spots her. He moves forward to speakto her.

CAZNAGril, what's happening?

Page 42: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT THREE 41.

DOJARI'm sorry, but they're taking itaway, all of it.

CAZNAWho, the military?

Dojar nods in sadly acknowledgment.

CAZNA (CONT'D)And what's your part in all this?

Dojar sighs.

DOJARI'm just doing my job.

Cazna shakes her head.

CAZNANo, you're taking part in somethingthat isn't right and you know it!

DOJAROur people are starving, Cazna, thegovernment couldn't refuse an offerthat would feed millions ofCardassians this year.

CAZNAThat's if they actually use it forfood!

DOJARThey will, we'll make sure of it.

Cazna shakes her head in disbelief, struggling to take itall in.

CAZNAThis just isn't right. Thatcollection of art serves to show thespirit of our people, our resolveand determination since the war.

DOJARBut it will feed so many, it willsave so many lives. Isn't that agood enough reason to let it go?

CAZNAArt is what we have turned to in ourtime of need. It is what helps manypeople rationalize their lives, toknow that there is more to us than abeaten and defeated people.

CAZNA (CONT'D)A piece of bread may save their livesfor a day, but it won't save theirsouls for a lifetime.

Beat.

DOJAR(downbeat)

I'm sorry.

CAZNASo am I. Sorry for believing insomeone like you.

DOJARPlease, don't say that.

CAZNAGoodbye, Gril.

I hope you enjoy your life.

Cazna turns around and pushes her way through the crowd.

DOJAR(mouths, silently)

Cazna.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Dojar opens his eyes with a huge gasp.

DOJAR(shouts)

Cazna!

TALORA(concerned)

Dojar?

No response. Dojar looks like he is staring into space, inanother world. Talora turns around and walks over to Y'lan.

TALORA (CONT'D)What's happening to him?

Y'LANI am unable to stabilize his mind asI had hoped. He won't let go of thememories.

(beat)I believe our only remaining optionis to remove them.

Talora frowns.

TALORARemove his memories?

Y'LANHis feelings for Cazna Miran rundeep, they are preventing his mindfrom stabilizing and keeping him inthis time frame.

TALORAY'lan, you can't remove his memoriesof her. It isn't right.

Beat.

Y'LAN(confused)

But that is what is destroying him,it is an infection that needs to beremoved.

TALORAIt's not an infection, it's pain. It's something we all have and it'ssomething we all need. It helps todefine us and make us what we are.

(beat)It helps us to grow and develop.

Y'LANAnd what if Dojar can't deal withthe pain?

TALORAHe will, he just needs time.

Y'lan looks intrigued as he gets an idea.

INT. ENTERPRISE - ENGINEERING

Cross and Grey are walking through the section.

GREYWell, I've reviewed all the availabledata we have.

CROSSAnd?

Grey sighs.

GREYAnd I have nothing.

Beat.

CROSSYou have no plan?

GREYShort of isolating the Marshall fromany type of computer that the Viruscan transfer to and then blowing upthe ship, no.

Cross reacts with intrigue and smiles to himself.

CROSSThat's it.

Grey frowns.

GREYWhat's it?

The camera moves in close on Cross's face.

CROSSThat's what we have to do. We haveto blow the ship up.

Grey looks surprised as Cross nods to himself.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Dojar sits there, with his eyes wide open, in shock as Talorawatches on while Y'lan works away at the control panel, at amore frantic pace.

TALORAI hate to ask but, what are you doing?

Y'LANI have a new solution to this problem. I have a way of allowing Dojar tosolve this problem for himself.

Talora frowns.

TALORABut you said he couldn't do thatbecause he didn't want to.

Y'LANYes.

Beat.

TALORASo, how?

Y'LANObserve.

Y'lan finishes working away at the control panel as Dojar'seyes close and begin to flicker once again.

EXT. SHIPYARD - NIGHT

Dojar (the present version) finds himself in a secluded areaof a shipyard on an unknown planet.

DOJAR(mutters - confused)

Where am I?

He looks around the area.

DOJAR (CONT'D)I don't recognize this place.

Then, in the near distance, he sees Cazna walk across withtwo other Cardassians.

The three of them have a short chat before Cazna walks offand into an office. Dojar, sensing his opportunity, discreetly follows her.

CUT TO:

INT. SHIPYARD - OFFICE - NIGHT

Cazna goes to the desk and looks for a padd as Dojar entersand closes the door. Cazna turns around and looks surprisedto see Dojar.

CAZNAGril?

(beat)What the hell are you doing here? How did you get past security?

DOJARIt doesn't matter, Cazna, I knowwhat you're doing.

Cazna frowns.

CAZNAHow?

DOJAROnce again, it doesn't matter, Ijust need you to listen to me when Itell you not to get on that fighter.

CAZNAI don't know what you're talkingabout.

Page 47: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

DOJARCazna, I know what you're going todo, but it's not worth it.

Cazna folds her arms and begins to look resentful.

CAZNAI seem to remember you sayingsomething like that before. At thetime you were part of the Cardassianmilitary that stripped a museum dry.

DOJARI know, I know what I did and I knowyou have no reason to trust me but, please, listen to me when I ask you not to get on that ship.

Cazna sighs.

CAZNAWhy, Gril?

You give me one good reason why!

DOJARBecause if you do, you'll die.

Beat.

CAZNAYou don't know that.

DOJARYes, yes, I do.

Beat.

CAZNAHow? Did you get a vision from theprophets of the Bajoran wormhole ordid you read it in a George Orwellbook?

Dojar takes a moment to compose himself.

DOJARI know I hurt you and it was somethingI never wanted to do. You mustbelieve me.

CAZNAThen why did you?

DOJARBecause I was doing my job!

DOJAR (CONT'D)I was doing what I thought I had to. It was my duty.

CAZNADoing your duty hurt me more thanyou'll ever know.

Dojar scoffs.

DOJARWhat, and you thought it was easyfor me?

CAZNAYou were the one standing there, weapon in hand, trying to destroythe one thing that I believed inmore than anything else.

DOJARYou're speaking as if the entireCardassian art culture died thereand then. It was just one museum!

Cazna shakes her head.

CAZNANo, you're wrong, it was a message. A message that the Cardassiangovernment will never learn from themistakes of the past and theCardassian people will, once again, have to suffer because of it. Lasttime it happened, centuries ago, thepeople accepted it for the best.

(beat)This time, we won't.

Cazna takes out a weapon and points it at Dojar.

CAZNA (CONT'D)I'm sorry, Gril, but I won't let youstand in my way this time.

Dojar looks down at the weapon, anxious.

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Talora continues to watch Dojar, as her face looks morestrained then ever.

CROSS'S COMM VOICECross to Talora.

Talora taps her commbadge.

TALORAGo ahead, Captain.

CROSS'S COMM VOICEReport to the Bridge, Commander, wehave found the Marshall.

TALORAOn my way.

The channel closes as Talora takes a last look at Dojar andthen reluctantly EXITS.

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise drops out of slipstream.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Cross stands over Whedon at the Helm, with Kasdan atOperations and Quinlan at Tactical. They all stare at theviewscreen as Talora walks out of the turbolift and towardsCross. He sees his first officer.

CROSSThe Marshall has come out ofslipstream and to a full stop.

Cross looks to Kasdan.

CROSS (CONT'D)Kasdan, what are you reading overthere?

KASDANI'm detecting fluctuating powerlevels, sir. I can't make heads ortails of what's going on over there.

CROSSHail them.

Quinlan works away at the Tactical panel.

QUINLANNo response.

CROSSInteresting.

Beat.

QUINLANShall I try again?

CROSSNo, I don't think so.

Quinlan seems slightly confused by this order as Cross looksat Talora for her input on the matter.

TALORAIt could be a trap.

CROSSBut why?

QUINLANCaptain...

Cross and Talora turn around and walk over to the Tacticalstation.

QUINLAN (CONT'D)Did you notice a certain look in itseye when it had us cornered?

(beat)I think it wanted us, for revenge.

(beat)I don't know what really happened onthe Trafalgar, but we nearly had itbeat. If it was ordered to retreat,I think it might want another crackat us.

Cross takes a deep breath and ponders over his course ofaction.

CROSSThen let's give it that opportunity,Lieutenant.

TALORA(concerned)

Captain?

CROSSI may live to regret this, or I maynot, but we just can't abandonhundreds of people on that ship.

(beat - quiet)Even if a rat like Cajal is incommand.

TALORAI understand.

CROSSQuinlan, have Commander Grey and asecurity contingent ready intransporter room three.

ACT FOUR

FADE IN:

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise moves closer to the Marshall.

INT. MARSHALL - BRIDGE

A fluster of activity is going as Cajal sits in the Commandchair with Delfune to his side. They both look anxious asCajal nervously taps his hand on the side of his chair.

CAJAL(impatient)

Sowards, report.

INT. MARSHALL - DECK FIVE

Sowards walks out of a Jefferies tube.

SOWARDSI've checked over the varioussubroutines and run-time proceduresand I can't see anything.

INT. MARSHALL - BRIDGE

Cajal and Delfune look at each other, unconvinced.

DELFUNE(wary)

Are you certain of that, Mr. Sowards?

SOWARDS'S COMM VOICEAbsolutely, Admiral.

Delfune sighs a breath of relief.

DELFUNEVery well. Report back to the Bridgeimmediately.

SOWARDS'S COMM VOICEAcknowledged.

At this moment, at the rear of the Bridge, Cross, Grey andthree security guards re-materialize out of the transportermatter stream. Naturally, the Bridge crew are surprised.

DELFUNECaptain Cross?

Cross walks towards Delfune.

Page 53: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 52.

CROSSAdmiral, what is your currentsituation?

CAJAL(defensive)

We're experiencing some engineproblems, Captain, that's all.

Beat.

CROSSAdmiral, the Hologram Virus, whereis it?

CAJALThat's none of your concern, Captain.

CROSS(irritated)

It is my concern, Captain, becauseI, personally, know what it is capableof!

(beat)Do you?

Cajal is lost for words.

DELFUNEWe have had a few problems with theHologram, but nothing to be concernedabout.

Cross, not believing what Delfune is saying, looks to Grey.

CROSSCommander?

Grey walks over to the Engineering console and works away atthe control panel.

GREYCaptain, I'm detecting the formationof Omicron particles on decks threeand five.

Cross, looking very concerned, turns back to Delfune.

CROSSAdmiral, we have to evacuate theship, right now.

Cajal scoffs.

CAJALWhat?

Page 54: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 53.

Cross, with contempt, glances at Cajal.

CROSSThe Holographic Virus, the one youbrought aboard your ship, is looseand beginning to do what it doesbest, take over the ship!

CAJALThat's not possible. We have thoroughsafety protocols in place.

CROSSIt's already beaten your safetyprotocols on decks three and five. All the people on those decks are ingrave danger.

(beat)We must evacuate.

Delfune takes a deep breath.

DELFUNECaptain, I appreciate your concernbut our expert scientist has alreadyinsisted that we are in no danger.

Cross shakes his head.

CROSSAdmiral...

DELFUNE(not listening)

We have many safety protocols inplace, there are no holoemitters onthe ship and we have a very ablecrew.

CROSSAdmiral...

DELFUNE(still not listening)

We cannot abandon the Marshall, because all the evidence shows thatwe are in no danger.

CROSS(insistent)

Admiral!

Delfune stops talking, looking slightly surprised.

CROSS (CONT'D)(adamant)

We must leave, right now.

Page 55: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

Beat.

DELFUNE(determined)

We will not abandon the Marshall,Captain.

Cross stands there and thinks to himself for a moment. Hethen taps his commbadge.

CROSSCross to Enterprise.

TALORA'S COMM VOICETalora here, Captain.

CROSSTalora, have all transporter roomsbegin beaming off the crew of theMarshall immediately. Beginningwith decks three and five.

Cajal and Delfune look flabbergasted.

TALORA'S COMM VOICEAye, sir.

DELFUNECross, I...

CROSS(interrupting -assertive)

Admiral, I have had enough of tryingto tell you, now I am telling you..we are evacuating this ship.

DELFUNE(aggravated)

Do you know what you are doing, Cross? This is mutiny!

CROSSYes, Admiral, I know what I'm doingbut I won't just leave you here todie because you want to harness someAlien technology.

DELFUNEI don't think you realize its fullpotential and what it could do forour cause.

Cross sighs, realizing what Delfune is talking about.

CROSSThe price is just too damn high.

Page 56: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 55.

Cross taps his commbadge again.

CROSS (CONT'D)Cross to Enterprise, beam everyoneoff the Bridge.

Moments later and each figure on the Bridge begins to de-materialize into the transporter matter stream.

EXT. SPACE

The Marshall shoots off into slipstream.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Talora is in the Command chair.

KASDANCommander!

Talora looks up to see the Marshall enter slipstream.

TALORAHelm, pursuit course!

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise also shoots off into slipstream.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

Talora sits there and looks apprehensive.

QUINLANCommander, all transporter roomsreport a total of 74 people beamedaboard.

TALORAVery good.

QUINLAN(downbeat)

And 24 bodies.

Talora looks at Quinlan, horrified.

INT. MARSHALL - CORRIDOR

All the figures de-materialize out of the transporter matterstream into a corridor. They, naturally, look perplexed.

DELFUNEWhere are we?

Cross looks to Grey, who gets out his tricorder and beginsscanning.

Page 57: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 56.

GREYI'm getting some very confusingreadings, Captain.

(beat - worried)Uh-oh.

CROSSWhat is it?

GREY(worried)

Sir, I think we should get out ofhere, right now.

CROSSWhy's that?

All of a sudden the Virus appears from behind the large groupof people and snaps the necks of two N.D. officers, eachwith one hand. The others all look scared to death.

GREYBecause we're on deck five!

They all dash off down the corridor as the Virus just standsthere and doesn't move. As they run, Grey is working awayat his tricorder.

GREY (CONT'D)Quick, in the turbolift!

They all dart towards the turbolift as it automatically opens. However, there is a slight struggle as everyone tries to getin at once. Delfune, Cajal, Cross and Grey are all insidewith the others following.

CUT TO:

INT. MARSHALL - TURBOLIFT

They anxiously wait those few seconds as the last few N.D.Bridge officers enter. The doors begin to close when, they'reinterrupted by the arm of the Virus! It grabs two N.D. Bridgeofficers by the back of the neck and pulls them out of thelift as the doors close. The remaining officers just standthere, silent as Delfune gulps.

DELFUNE(muted)

Oh my god.

Cross looks at Delfune, not seeing him, and gives her ascornful look.

CROSSI hope now that the severity of oursituation is understood.

Page 58: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 57.

There is no response as Cross turns to Grey.

CROSS (CONT'D)Erik...

GREY(interrupting)

I know what you're going to say, sir, and I don't know. I recognizedthe same adaptive programming in theMarshall's replicators that was onthe Trafalgar. That allowed me tosee that the Virus couldn't accessthe turbolift yet.

CROSSIt's just our luck that we shouldbeam into one of the few areas thatthe Virus can get to.

(beat)We need to get everyone to the escapepods.

CAJALDidn't you notice that we've goneinto slipstream?

CROSSThen we'll just have to get out ofslipstream, won't we?

CAJALIf only it were that easy.

Cross rolls his eyes, ignoring Cajal. He looks back to Grey.

GREYIf it's now got control of theengines, it might have access toEngineering. We also don't know howlong it will be before the Virusgets access to the entire ship. Ifwe're going to have any chance ofgetting to the escape pods, we'llneed to get to Engineering.

CROSSThen we can kill two birds with onestone.

Delfune frowns.

DELFUNE(confused)

How do you mean?

Page 59: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 58.

CROSSWe're going to make sure that wedestroy this thing like we should'vedone last year.

CAJALAnd how do you intend to do that?

CROSSBy destroying the ship.

Cajal looks in shock.

CAJAL(adamant)

You can't destroy my ship!

CROSSIt's the only way.

DELFUNEAnd what if the Virus does have accessto Engineering? What will we dothen?

Cross stands there and thinks to himself before, momentslater, his expression shows that he has been hit by abrainwave. He smiles.

INT. SHIPYARD - OFFICE - NIGHT

Dojar looks down at the phaser being pointed at him, worried. Cazna looks determined but slightly on edge.

DOJARCazna, don't.

CAZNAI don't have a choice, Gril, it'snot set to kill but I can't let yousay anything about us, you know toomuch.

DOJARAll I want you to do is not go onthis mission.

CAZNAI have to, it's too important.

Dojar frowns.

DOJARBut why?

CAZNAI can't tell you, it's classified.

Page 60: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 59.

DOJARIf you're going to shoot me then youmight as well tell me. After all,it will all be over by the time anyonefinds me.

Cazna considers it.

CAZNAI can't.

Dojar sighs.

DOJARI never tried to hide who I was orwhat I had to do from you, Cazna, all I ask is that you do the same.

Beat.

CAZNAOkay.

(beat)There's a Valerian ship that'scarrying a weapon, a Cardassiandesigned weapon that is protecting acargo full of everything, you nameit, bound for Cardassia.

DOJARWhat kind of weapon is it?

CAZNAIt's a sophisticated computer Virus, capable of adapting and manifestingitself into physical form.

Dojar looks worried.

DOJARWhat?

CAZNAWhat is it? What's wrong?

Dojar's eyes move from side to side as he thinks to himself.

DOJARHow did it get on a Valerian ship?

CAZNAWe believe that the Cardassiangovernment has put it there to protectthe cargo being delivered.

DOJARBut where is the cargo coming from?

Page 61: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 60.

CAZNAWe don't know, all we know is thatit is from some Alien faction.

Dojar continues to think hard to himself before, all of asudden, quickly knocking the phaser out of Cazna's hand. Hethen moves right up close to her face and kisses her, passionately. This lasts for a few seconds.

DOJARPlease, don't go. Don't go for allthe reasons that have kept us apartall these years. Don't go becausewe have never had the chance to betogether and we should be.

Cazna sighs as she ponders over that decision.

CAZNABut that would be as good as givingup, and where would that leave me?

Dojar smiles.

DOJARWith me.

CAZNAWhat about Starfleet? What aboutyour career?

DOJARNone of that matters anymore. Allthat matters... is you.

Cazna smiles as the two of them just look into each otherseyes. Cazna nods in acknowledgment.

CAZNAOkay, I won't go.

Dojar smiles with delight and extends his hand, which Caznain-turn holds. The two of them hold hands as...

INT. ENTERPRISE - Y'LAN'S LAB

Dojar wakes up, slowly and finds himself comfortable in thechange of surroundings.

Y'LANThis part is now over.

DOJARI don't understand, nothing's changed.

Y'LANNo.

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 61.

DOJARBut I was in the past, I stoppedCazna from getting on the ship. Ichanged the past, Y'lan.

Y'LANYes.

Beat.

DOJARThen why has nothing changed?

Y'LANYou accomplished what you wanted to,you gave yourself a life with CaznaMiran.

A future.

Y'LAN (CONT'D)(beat)

But not in this timeline.

Dojar thinks to himself.

DOJARThe plant pot?

Y'LANYes.

Beat.

DOJARThat was it. The vine was my journey, coming out from the dirt, thebeginning, that everything comesfrom. Then, as time goes by, morevines, emerge and go off on theirown way. Those were the otherdimensions.

Y'LANYes.

DOJARAnd you used the machine to fool mysub-conscious by putting me into analternative dimension where I couldget closure?

Y'LANA dimension where Gril Dojar andCazna Miran enjoy a long lifetogether.

Dojar smiles.

DOJARThen at least we're together,somewhere.

INT. MARSHALL - CORRIDOR - DECK FIVE

Complete darkness until the turbolift doors open and Crosswalks out. Armed with his phaser rifle, he walks down thecorridor, sweating and on edge. He looks around the sidesof the corridor and then stops as he notices something ofinterest.

VIRUS (O.S.)Looking for someone, Captain?

Cross turns around and moves his phaser rifle to the soundof the voice. The light shines onto the Virus, bringing himinto sight.

CROSSI wondered when you were going toshow up again.

VIRUSI hope I haven't disappointed you.

CROSSNot at all.

VIRUSMany notable people have wondered ifyou have a death wish, Captain. Coming here now, alone, would seemto suggest that you do.

CROSSMaybe I'm here for something else, maybe I'm here to kill you.

VIRUSYou couldn't do it last time, whatmakes you think you can do it now?

CROSSSo it's true, you are looking forrevenge. Have you evolved beyondyour programming? Are you sentient?

VIRUSYou do not understand. You see aface, a mask and you think it is thesame one as you saw before.

Cross frowns.

Page 64: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 63.

CROSSYou weren't on the Trafalgar?

VIRUSNo, that was the first, the prototype, ordered to withdraw. I, like manyothers, are copies, duplicates ofthat one.

Cross looks very concerned.

CROSSThere are more of you out there?

VIRUSYes, Captain, we're everywhere. Andwe all remember every detail of whathappened on the Trafalgar and, becauseof that, I know the threat you pose. This is why you have received specialattention.

(beat)I am not sentient, I can not bereasoned with, I exist to serve.

Beat.

CROSSWhy were you on a Valerian freighter? Who do you work for, who do you serve?

The Virus smiles.

VIRUSThat is a question that you wouldlike the answer to but, unfortunately,I'm not going to give it to you.

(beat)I will give you something else though.

CROSSYeah, and what's that?

VIRUSTime.

Cross frowns.

CROSSTime?

Beat.

VIRUSTo run.

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 64.

Cross, sensing that the end is nigh, starts to back off withhis phaser rifle still pointing at the Virus. Then, in aquick move, he swings the phaser rifle round and fires it atthe hatch of the Jefferies tube and dives into it.

INT. ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE

As before. Dojar walks out of the turbolift and towards asurprised Talora.

TALORAGril, you're okay!

DOJARYes. I've been reviewing the logsand I have to get onto the Marshall. The Captain, and the others, won'tsurvive unless I get over there.

TALORAGril, we're at slipstream and theMarshall is out of transporter range. It's not possible.

DOJARYes, it is.

The camera closes in on Dojar's focused look.

INT. MARSHALL - CORRIDOR - DECK SIX

Grey, Delfune, Cajal and many others run down the corridor. They reach an intersection. Cajal points to everyone barDelfune, Grey and the two Enterprise security officers.

CAJALYou lot go that way and make sureyou get everyone as close to theescape pods as you can.

They nod in acknowledgment and run down one side of thecorridor as Grey and company go down the other.

INT. MARSHALL - JEFFERIES TUBE

Cross frantically crawls through the Jefferies tube as hereaches a deck exit point. He opens the doors and... theVirus is there! Cross quickly attempts to crawl back as theVirus tries to grab Cross but its arm disappears. Crossturns around and crawls back the other way. The Virus, looking annoyed, disappears.

INT. MARSHALL - ENGINEERING

Once again, darkness. The doors open as Grey, Cajal, Delfuneand the two Enterprise security officers cautiously walk in. They all tentatively scout the area.

Page 66: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 65.

CAJALIt's clear.

Grey walks over to the active induction core and starts towork away at the control panel. The worry on his face startsto show, Cajal and Delfune notice.

DELFUNEWhat is it?

GREYThe escape pods are locked out.

CAJALIs there any way you can unlock them?

Grey sighs.

GREYMost of the systems are locked out,but some of the safety protocols arestill in place. I think I can reroutesome of these protocols to releasethe escape pods but...

DELFUNEBut what, Commander?

GREYThere's no way to restrict the Virus'access to those areas. I also can'taccess the QIC so there's no way todrop out of slipstream.

DELFUNEThat would appear to leave us withonly one option, the one CaptainCross suggested.

Grey nods in acknowledgment as Delfune ponders the situation.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)Erik...

Grey immediately looks surprised by Delfune calling him byhis first name.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)I think we should look at anotherpossible alternative.

GREYWhat's that, Admiral?

DELFUNEInstead of running from this hologram, why don't we try to capture it?

Page 67: 3x16 Ships That Pass - Star Trek Minutiae...RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - TEASER 3. The Cardassian fighters move in closer to the Enterprise, sensing that they have

RENAISSANCE: "Ships That Pass in the Night" - ACT FOUR 66.

Grey looks dubious.

DELFUNE (CONT'D)Think about it, Erik, think aboutwhat this hologram is, what it meansand what we can do with it.

DELFUNE(interrupting)

Erik, we've had many dealings in thepast. We both know each other well. We're quite alike in our love forStarfleet and the Federation. Weboth want the best for it, and allconcerned.

GREYBut I'm not sure it is for the best.

DELFUNEI think that I, as a StarfleetAdmiral, am more qualified then you,Commander, to know what's best forthe Federation, am I not?

Grey looks flustered.

GREYYes, Admiral.

Delfune walks closer to Grey.

Two more then emerge fromthe sides to make five in total. The Germans, scared todeath, all take their chances, running away across thebattlefield as Cross sits there and waits.
