PARISH FEAST: May 1 is our Parish Feast, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. It will be celebrated on April 29 and there will be one Mass in Gros Islet at 9.00 a.m. followed by fellowship. Parishioners from Monchy and Grande Riviere are invited to join us. Everyone is asked to bring something to share. In the afternoon there will be a Gospel Explosion at 4.00 p.m. All church groups and committees, men women and especially the youth are invited to come and give God thanks. Proceeds go towards supporting the work of FAYMES, a Hurricane Tomas community-based rehabilitation Project in Fond St. Jacques, and the hosting of AEYCA in Gros Islet. WALK WITH YOUR PRIEST 2012: As part of the Catholic Church’s effort to promote a healthy physical and spiritual lifestyle in St. Lucia, the Clergy of the archdiocese invite all parishioners to get involved in some form of regular physical exercise (walking, jogging, swimming, running, aerobics, sports) in preparation for WALK WITH YOUR PRIESTS 2012. This can serve as the beginning of a sustained programme of physical fitness at the parish level to help combat such diseases as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and cardiac problems. Such a programme by the Church, if successful, can significantly impact the amount spent annually on health care in St. Lucia. The Walk is scheduled for May 1, from the Caribbean Cinemas to pigeon point and starts at 7.00 a.m. Registration is $15.00 and includes a t-shirt. Persons with Sponsored sheets are asked to have them filled out and return to the parish office in Gros Islet, Lysa Esnard (Grande Riviere), and Freddy Jn. Baptiste (Monchy). He is calling us to change our attitudes and free our minds with the Gospel message, to reject worldliness and selfishness. “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2).” DID YOU KNOW? Leaving church before the Dismissal deprives one of a blessing. Mass has a beginning and an end. To leave immediately after Communion is to treat Holy Mass like a fast food restaurant where we come and go as we please. Jesus had shared His long-term expectations of God’s plan, yet they had failed to understand. They had been privileged to be part of His life and mission, witnessing and sharing in Jesus’ wonderful ministry, bringing healing, life and hope to the needy. All those whom society shunned, Jesus embraced. Their belief and hope in Jesus included that their new way of living would last forever and that Jesus, as the Son of God and Messiah, was the answer to everything. With Jesus, they were filled with hope and anticipation that all would be well and love would prevail. However, they were forced to come to terms with Jesus’ humanity, including that he had suffered and died. This was not part of their vision. This same invitation is offered to us today, to open our minds and hearts to the working of Christ in our lives. The Risen Christ draws us out of confusion to understanding, from mystery to revelation. That is Christ’s Easter gift to us. When life brings sadness, grief and anxiety and we lose direction, peace is found in the knowledge of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness for us. May we continue to recognise Christ in all things that bring us life, hope and love.
