Life Settlements An Outstanding Line-up of Investors, FundManagers andIndustry Experts:

Don’t miss the BrowndorfPEM workshop on “fusion”life settlement products– see page 6!

Dear Colleague,

2010 looks set to be one of the most eventful for the life settlements market, with innovationcontinuing at a blistering pace alongside new regulatory pressures, shifting investmentdynamics, and increasingly problematic PR.

Following a misleading portrayal in the New York Times in late 2009, the life settlementsindustry has been coming under increasing scrutiny – not all of it justified. The upshot seemsto be that some form of federal oversight is coming to the marketplace in 2010, but thedetails remain uncertain. What will the impact be for investors, providers, and other marketparticipants? How will the new federal oversight interact with existing state regulations, which already exhibit significant variety? If you’re concerned about the new regulatoryenvironment, you won’t want to miss a much-awaited keynote address from CommissionerFred Joseph, Colorado Securities Commissioner and Chairman of NASAA’s new LifeSettlements Committee, who will not only speak about the new committee’s role inregulating life settlements but more broadly about the future of regulation in the space, particularly at the federal level. See page 4 for further details. At the same time, exciting new structures and investment strategies continue to supply theinnovation that is needed to overcome challenges like longevity extension risk and investor-imposed restrictions. “Fusion” products, which involve the blending of life settlements withalternative investment types, have recently been touted as an exciting hedging tool forlongevity risk – and are finally starting get the coverage they deserve. In this light, we arehonored to welcome back Matthew Browndorf from Browndorf PEM who will be leadingan in-depth workshop on the structuring challenges of life settlement hybrids (see page 3 forfurther details). Shariah-compliant investment strategies have similarly emerged in 2009to expand the investor universe for this promising, non-correlated asset class – see page 4.

With over 70% of speakers new for 2010, Finance IQ continues to deliver perspectives, keynotes, fund managers and investors that you won’t find anywhere else. New hedge fundsconfirmed to speak include Paine Heights Capital, Traymar Capital, Fortress, Tranen,Bally Capital Management, Silverpoint and Clayton Dunning, among many others.Furthermore, we are extremely excited to feature a keynote guest address by David Kekich –President & CEO of the Maximum Life Foundation – who will deliver fascinating andthought-provoking insights into the future of human longevity. Kekich – an ultra-successfulventure capital investor who turned his life to aging research after a personal tragedy at ayoung age – also boasts one of the most inspiring stories of any of our keynote speakers.More details on his unique address can be found on page 6.It’s truly an exciting time to be evaluating and/or investing in longevity-based assets. I greatlylook forward to meeting you in New York next March, at the third installment of IQPC’ssuccessful life settlements series.

Kind regards,

Toby DonovanProgram Director

For investors interested in life settlements, there are exciting opportunities buta number of pitfalls too that can catch the unwary. Attending IQPC’s LifeSettlements conference is a great way to make sense of this promising,

Main Conference Day 2Continued

Post-Conference WorkshopThursday, March 25, 2010

3:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Registration at 2:45 pm)

One of the major risks associated with traditional investments in lifesettlements is that of longevity extension: the chance that – whetherthrough underwriting error or sheer bad luck – a portfolio of lifesettlements takes longer than expected to mature. Longevity extension, ifit is acute, can significantly reduce the returns on a portfolio or eveneliminate them entirely, turning the investment into a source of loss.

One new strategy for mitigating extension risk is blending or “fusing” lifesettlements with other alternative asset classes, to create life settlement“hybrids”. These new life settlement products preserve much of theuncorrelated characteristics of the asset class, but remove the sting of apossible longevity extension scenario. Matthew Browndorf and JonathanSadowsky – both of Browndorf PEM – have pioneered the approach inrecent months, and will guide you the challenges of structuring theseinvestments most effectively.

What You Will Learn:• Understand the concept of life settlement “hybrids”• Determine the most effective assets for inclusion within fusion products• Examine the ways in which fusion products react within different market

scenarios• Identify the investor types most likely to benefit from fusion products

How You Will Benefit:• Engineer product structures that mitigate longevity risk• Reduce your exposure to underwriting error• Create new sources of diversity within a portfolio, beyond multiple lives• Attract new kinds of investor
