Once upon a time there was a Great Big Crab and once upon a time there was alittle bit of a Crab. And the Big Crab used to come out of the sea and walk along onthe sand of the beach. And the Little Crab used to come out of the sea and walkalong the sand of the beach also. So the Big Crab and the Little Crab would walkalong together and the great green lobsters and the starfish and all the othercreatures of the sea would stand in a row to watch them.
Now the Big Crab thought himself a very big crab indeed. He rolled his eyes aboutto see who was looking at him whenever he went out to walk. But, one day, when hewas thinking how everyone must be admiring him, as he walked along with hisfriend, he chanced to look down and see the Little Crab was walking queerly.Waddle, waddle, twist and hitch the Little Crab was going.
"Dear me! Dear me!" the Big Crab said to himself. "Nobody will think much of meif they see me with such a poor Little Crab who doesn't know how to walk but goesalong waddle, waddle, twist and hitch and waddle!"
So the Big Crab said to the Little Crab: "Child, you walk very queerly, twisting allthe time and waddling from side to side. I hate to be seen in company with such aclumsy creature. Pray stop this waddle-waddle and walk in a straight line forward,one foot before the other."
Well, the Little Crab felt very sorry that his walk did not please his friend and hevery much wanted to change it; so he said, "I'll just look at the Big Crab and learnhow to walk from him." Then he turned his eyes to look, and lo and behold, the BigCrab, the great, big, fine-feeling Big Crab, was going waddle, waddle, twist andhitch himself!
"Well, well, well!" said the Little Crab. "Here's a fine state of affairs! If you wantme to walk straight, you must show me how, my friend, by first walking straightyourself! The only way to teach others how to do what is right, is just to do rightyourself!"

Many plants begin as eggs.Some of these plants have flowers,
each of which has eggs hidden within it.

The eggs are in a part called the ovary.In most flowers the ovary is just above
where the petals join the stem.
The eggs cannot grow into a flower seedwithout a helper. The helper is called pollen.
The pollen is often brought from another flower by bees as they flyfrom flower to flower to gather
nectar to make honey. Some of the pollen brushes off the bee on to apart of the flower just above the ovary.
Each grain of pollen that the bee brought forms a long tube,which grows down toward the eggs. Each tube enters one egg.
Here is a close look at the pollen tubeentering an egg.
When this happens, the egg and the pollen join together andchange into a seed.
This change is called fertilization.
This seed falls on the ground. With the help of the sun and rain, itwill grow into another plant.
So you can see that two things were needed to make this newplant - an egg and pollen.
