3M" SelectiCure® H19 Cascade FilterTherapeutic apheresis includes different types of extracorporeal removal of harmfulsubstances or therapeutically effective components from blood or blood plasma.Today, new treatment methods based on blood filtration enable new therapies fora broad spectrum of patients and indications.

One example is LDL apheresis, which eliminates the cholesterol-containing particlelow-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the bloodstream in patients with familialhypercholesterolemia. LDL-cholesterol, the so-called "bad cholesterol", plays a rolein the development of arteriosclerosis and increases the risk of coronary diseases,heart attack, and even death. When traditional lipid-lowering treatments may nothelp to lower the elevated LDL-cholesterol to the targeted level, LDL apheresisbecomes a feasible and effective option.
