Overview The 3Com ® Education Module, a software package specifically designed to assist K-12 schools, is a set of integrated applications for simplifying and enhancing communica- tions among teachers, administrators, safety officials, and parents. The applications run on the 3Com NBX ® platform of the 3Com Convergence Applications Suite. Key Features Auto dialer including absentee reporting provides automatic dialing and distribu- tion of voice messages to predefined calling lists. Homework hotline and enhanced IVR that enables information to be communicated via telephone; parents or guardians can call to hear a day’s or week’s assignments as recorded by one teacher or listen to a consolidated message of assignments from all of the student’s teachers. Record-on-demand enables message recording by school staff such as a school receptionists, teachers, or administrators; in an emergency or potentially dangerous situation, an entire conversation—a bomb threat or illegal or disturbing dialogue— can be saved for future analysis by activating certain phone keys. Emergency event-tracing software auto- matically detects when a user dials 911 from a phone on the system, and informs key school administrative personnel. When phone users respond to a malicious call, they can press certain activation keys to notify the appropriate people. The system records the call, provides storage and playback information, sends a recorded message to a predefined group of phone numbers, and distributes the recorded message based on pre-defined instructions.
