2008, the KPS Administrators received a complaint by the head of the

UKM students dele!ation on the deplorable state of some facilities in

KPS, especially in the dormitory and in the meetin! room" Upon

investi!ation, it #as found that the furniture in the dormitories and

the meetin! room had been vandali$ed" Some of the loc%ers no

lon!er had doors, some had doors but the loc%s #ere missin!, and

many of them had been stre#n #ith !rafitti" Similarly, in the meetin!

room, the bi! meetin! table had been found scribbled #ith !raffitti" A

number of the chairs in the meetin! room had #obbly le!s"

&t is estimated that in order to repair these vandali$ed items,

KPS mana!ement has to spend around '( thousand rin!!it, #hich is

beyond its repair allocation bud!et of )M'0 thousand per semester"

*urthermore, KPS mana!ement re!rets that the vandalism problem

has tarnished the !ood ima!e of KPS in the eyes of visitors and ne#

students"

+he problem of vandalism in KPS is a serious problem and has to be

curbed soon before it becomes #orse3 &t seems that the maority of

vandalised items in KPS are its furniture both in the dormitories and

in the meetin! room" +o a lesser e-tent, some bathroom facilities

have also been found to be vandalised" .andalism commited by

university students should be considered as somethin! serious" +here

must be reasons #hy they have the audacity to act in such behaviour,

especially #hen they are supposed to be the /future leaders" T'

6. S$gn$!$canc o! #' S#u+&t is hoped that this study #ill be able to find out e-actly the e-tent ofvandalism problem in KPS" *urthermore, this study hopes to identify

the causes and effects of vandalism in KPS" 3y doin! this study, theresearchers aim to recommend steps that should be ta%en by allparties involved in order to lessen or eliminate vandalism cases inKPS, thus, maintainin! the !ood ima!e of the colle!e to the studentsas #ell as the visitors"

7. Sco4Due to limited time, the scope of this proposed research #ill belimited only to vandalism cases in KPS, and not to the #hole of

Permata University as a #hole" *urthermore, the respondents chosen#ill be limited to KPS administrative staff and to students"

M#'oo%og+ !or Da#a Co%%c#$on+his study #ill use the methods of observation, 4uestionnaire, andalso intervie# for data collection" *irst of all, all facilities in KPS #illbe visited, and throu!h observation, cases of vandalism on thesefacilities #ill be recorded" *ollo#in! that, the appropriateadministrative staff #ill be intervie#ed to !et more data on cases of

vandalism in KPS" Appro-imately 506 of KPS students #ill be !iven4uestionnaires in order to elicit data re!ardin! causes and effects ofvandalism on them" +hese data #ill then be analysed #ith the help ofMicrosoft 7-cel and #ill be discussed in the findin!s and discussionsection" *inally, recommendations #ill be !iven based on thefindin!s"
