• disaster relief: As a result of thedevastation caused by HurricaneSandy, the need for helping needyand hurting New Yorkers has sky-rocketed since late October 2012.

Greetings from the Urban Mission Field ofNew York City! Founded in 1984, the NewYork School of Urban Ministry (NYSUM)hosts, trains, and deploys over 5,000 youth

and adults each year by partnering with over 100 inner city pastorsand churches.

In addition to providing practical urban classroom training, NYSUMprovides accommodations and home-style meals for small and largegroups at our 74,000 sq. ft. training campus. NYSUM’s staff trainsstudents from colleges, seminaries, Bible schools, youth groups, andchurch groups in “hands-on” cross cultural urban ministry.

NYSUM’S outreaches consist of but are not limited to Food Truckministry, street meetings, soup kitchens, rescue missions, city shelters, rehab centers, late night homeless outreaches, holiday feeding programs and so much more.

City Reach Institutea 9-Month Urban training Resident Program

City Reach Institute is NYSUM’s answer totraining the next generation of leaders, aswe biblically guide our students througha Christ-centered discipleship program.Students 18-30 travel from around thecountry to develop their ministry callingwhile obtaining over 1,200 communityservice hours, and over 750 hours of serving in a local NYC church.

This is an all-inclusive program that will spiritually and mentally preparestudents for ministry by providing an amazing in class curriculum with sessionstaught by current ministry leaders, and weekly hands-on urban ministryexperience in the vast mission field of NYC.

Extreme MakeoverWeekendDuring extreme Makeover Weekend,more than 150 women from at least eightStates and various parts of Canada willhelp NYSUM provide more than 500 cosmetic and wardrobe makeovers forhomeless and battered women in NewYork City homeless shelters. NYSUM’s staffprovide practical urban training beforemakeover outreach:• One-on-one evangelism training• Basic cosmetology training.

Operation Drum-stick Weekendthanksgiving Outreach

Approximately 3.3 million New Yorkersexperience difficulty affording food forthemselves and their families, an increaseof 60 percent since 2003. During opera-tion drumstick, your team will be in-volved with feeding Thanksgiving meals to5,000 needy people throughout New YorkCity. These hurting people will receive agood old-fashioned Thanksgiving Dinnerwith all the trimmings: roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, vegetables, cranberrysauce, and dessert. WinterCompassionA united outreach to homeless people ofNew York City, who are often forgottenduring the coldest season of the year. With the assistance of a team of people,NYSUM’s Food Truck distributes food, blankets, toiletries, and clothing to over3,000 homeless people on the streets, inthe subways, and at shelters in the spirit ofGod’s love. Teams also assist local churchesand ministries with their community compassion outreach programs duringthese months.
