The first product line of a new polisher generation, Diacomp Plus TWIST fromGerman manufacturerEVE offers various applica-tion benefits for an even eas-ier polishing of all compositerestorations. It comes in an innova-tive shape with flexible polishingspirals and is applied in two stepsthat have been adapted to each otherfor excellent polishing results.

The pre-polishing step reduces allsurface defects and prepares it forthe final polishing while the secondstep brings high-shine to any com-posite surface, according to the com-pany. Since only two polishers for allcomposite surfaces have to be ap-plied, the polishing process is simpli-fied and shortened considerably.

In addition to the special shape, the employed diamond abrasiveleads to high shine surfaces undershort application times. The applica-bility on all common composites andthe high efficiency are other featuresof this innovative polishing system.

Key characteristic of DiacompPlus is the unique flexibility. The pol-ishing spirals adapt to any type ofsurface structure which makes itpossible to polish all tooth surfaces

equally well with justone shape. Even the polish-

ing of the occlusion is considerablysimplified, according to EVE.

For more flexibility, the DiacompPlus TWIST are available in both di-ameters 10mm and 14mm.

An additional advantage thatcomes with the application of Dia-comp Plus TWIST is the maintenanceof the initial surface structure. Afterthe modellation of the composite sur-face with a metal instrument, the pol-ishing process with the flexible spi-rals does barely alter the createdstructure.

Dentists also appreciate the ex-cellent durability of the polishingsystem. Even multiple sterilizationcycles do not alter the effectivenessof Diacomp Plus TWIST, the companysaid.

At the last IDS, the Danish family-owned manufacturer XO CARE fromDenmark introduced XO VIP SHOWin a theater-like setting where a den-tal team and an XO manager pre-sented “Extraordinary Dentistry”.This year the exhibition concept willreach next levels under the headlineXO DENTAL DIALOGUE.

According to XO Care, the eventwill start with a brief introduction tovalue creation in dentistry. Next, theaudience is asked to rank the impor-tance of the presented issues in rela-tion to their own experience. Duringthe following minutes, the two top is-sues are treated more in depth in a di-alogue between a reference dentistand the manufacturer.

Prior and after the performance theaudience is invited to relax in the XOLounge next to the “classroom” andmaybe have a look at the new equip-ment and instrument solution from XO.

With the XO DENTAL DIALOGUE,the manufacturer aims to create a set-ting that will involve the audience inthe dialogue, thereby also enhancingthe possibilities for continuous productimprovements, and open innovation.

XO Care CEO Kim Sørensen saysthat his company and professionaldentists share the same objective ofconstantly striving for the best work-ing solutions—in response to chal-lenges and requirements of moderndentistry.

Sørensen thinks that dentistshave four professional objectives:“Performing perfect treatments, oncalm patients, while maintaining thedental team’s own health and finallymaking a good equipment invest-ment.”

“It is not only about choosing towork with the best dental equipmentbut also about exploiting the great ad-vantages of the equipment, while per-forming quality dentistry,” Sørensenconcludes.

Nowadays, carbon fibres are usedin many industries, particularly inthose where there is the need to havemaximum performance with re-duced weight. Owing to these charac-teristics carbon fibre also representsa new era in prostethics. The creationof precise prosthetic structures, without retractions or expansions, strong and lightweight, and thatcould be carried out quickly in anydental laboratory without the aid ofany space equipment, intelligentsoftware, and external organizations,it was an aspect that many felt thelack.

With Dream Frame, the Italianmanufacturer DEI wants to supportdental technicians and to dentists intheir work by offering high technol-ogy that offers great benefits, practi-cality and spare even costs.

The flexural strength of the fibreexceeds 250 GPa, which is signifi-cantly larger when compared to theforces occur in the oral cavity that areunlikely to exceed 70 to 80 kg. Com-pared to traditional materials it also

offers shock absorption which is veryimportant for implant prosthetics.

A result of newly developed tech-nology, the resin used for impregna-tion of the fibres provides extraordi-nary strength. For use in the oral cav-ity it has been necessary to achieve aresin with high biocompatibility ofnatural origin that we called DreamFrame Bio Resin.

Owing to its strength, mechanicsstability and micro-mechanical elas-ticity (shock absorption), DreamFrame provides an important option

for manufacturing implant-prosthe-sis works. Its high precision removesthe need post cementation to makepassive the structure. Certainly itwill be necessary to start with a den-tal impression in plaster or locking oftransfer in order to have an accuratedental impression.

What are the main demandsfrom dental and orthodontic labsand how have these demandschanged in recent years?

The dental industry is, by itsvery nature, fast-paced and requiresrapid turnaround. When patientcare is directly affected by a technol-ogy, technicians will always look forinnovations that can reduce timewhile improving quality and preci-sion.

Dental technicians traditionallyrely on steady hands and expert eyesto prepare crowns, bridges, etc., how-ever, the traditional manual processis labor and time-consuming, sub-jected to human errors and requiresmaterials that do not typically pro-vide the best durability or aestheticappearance. By using 3-D printing, dentists are able to reduce the time ittakes to produce a dental mould andaccelerate treatment time, cruciallyhaving a direct and positive impacton patient care.

Using Stratasys’ PolyJet technol-ogy, featured in our Dental Series of3-D printers, laboratories can printin ultra-fine 16 micron layers, dra-matically increasing precision incomparison to traditional dentalmould making. This avoids the needfor patients to return to dental labsfor corrective procedures and savesdentists both time and money.

Precision is always paramountin the dental industry and this re-mains a primary demand. In recentyears, dental professionals havestarted to appreciate that digitaldentistry is the new face of the in-

dustry. It is no longer a question ‘if’they should implement it, but ‘when’.

Are you seeing more dentaland orthodontics labs move to dig-ital dentistry? What do you thinkthe reasons are for this?

With the cost of laboratory workbecoming a major factor in dentalrestoration planning and therapy,

we are seeing an increase in theadoption of digital dentistry by den-tal labs. With an increased range ofhigh-performance intraoral scan-ners and associated software nowavailable on the market, more andmore dental labs of all sizes are ex-ploring and installing the level oftechnology that suits their com-pany’s size and budget.

Most notably, this year we haveseen an explosion of devices dedi-cated to digital imaging, impression-ing and CAD/CAM fabrication ofrestorations—both chairside and inthe lab. With the roll out of new sys-tems, materials and capabilities overthe coming year, many believe thatmore dentists will begin to see thetechnology as a viable alternativefor their practices.

Forward-thinking dental and or-thodontic labs are continually con-sidering to improve their processes, reduce lengthy milling time and stayahead of the competition. Engi-neered to meet the demanding pro-duction needs of mid-size dental labsand mid-to-large-sized orthodonticlabs, our newly launched ObjetEden260VS Dental Advantage su-persedes Stratasys’ popular ObjetEden260V Dental Advantage plat-form with new capabilities.

With labour costs as the main ex-pense for dental and orthodonticlabs, the Eden260VS Dental Advan-tage addresses this by a greater levelof automation. Printing is done in aclick of a button and thanks to thewater soluble support, cleaning ofmodels is a fully automated process.A single lab technician can design, print and have all models cleanedwith no further post process re-quired. The reduced cost per modelhas a knock-on effect to the labourcost.

By combining oral scanning,CAD/CAM design and 3-D printing, dental labs can accurately and rap-idly produce crowns, bridges, stone

models and a range of orthodonticappliances. With a 3-D printer doingthe hard work, dental labs eliminatethe bottleneck of manual modelling.

We might look back at this yearas the moment that dental labora-tories passed the point of no re-turn from a traditional manualworkflow toward an all-digital de-sign and manufacturing process. In many respects, digital dentistryis already here, with a growingnumber of laboratory owners in-corporating it in some form intotheir strategic business models.

Thank you very much.
