    CLC 35 Process simulation PRO/TRAIN for Windows

    Effecient and didactically sensible training on the highly complex production systems found in industry is onlyfeasible to some extent in automation technology. Thus training systems must be used which graphicallydemonstrate system interdependencies and that can be explored by the student without directly affecting theproduction process. PRO/TRAIN for Windows is a training system which allows various automated processes tobe depicted and simulated at a work station for practical hands-on experimentation.

    The training system consists of software, hardware and teachware. The software simulates and graphicallydepicts typical, technological processes, machines and drives on a PC. The software models are graphicallydetailed and realistically depicted both in terms of design as well as operating response. For each model thereis the possibility of performing process analysis in demonstration mode. Malfunctions are realistically simulatedin the process simulations for practical experience and can be initiated randomly or simulated by the user usingthe keyboard. Control errors are identified and logged by the software. The switches and pushbuttons needed tooperate the models are already integrated into the respective simulations. The use of real hardware for operation

    and monitoring, e.g. an Operator Panel, is easily integratable. The I/O interface connects the PC via the serialinterface using the signal inputs and outputs of a PLC control unit. As such process models with digitalactuators and sensors as well as analog final control elements and signal generators can be connected andcontrolled. The actuators incorporated in the model can be controlled directly by the PLC and the switchingstates of the signal generators are transmitted to the PLC. The signal level for connection to the PLC has beenselected so that any given industrial-type PLC can be connected to the interface. The input and output signals ofthe process are accessible on the interface and can be checked by means of electronic measurement. Eachmodel package has an in-depth, state-of-the-art online help using browser technology. These contain generaldescriptions of the simulation models, control exercises as well as sample PLC programs.     "Closed-loop liquid level control" is a practice-oriented experiment set in applied control technology designedespecially for didactic purposes.     CAS 1 AS interface

    The actuator-sensor interface (AS interface) is an open networking system, s tandardised according to IEC62026and EN 50295 for the lowest fieldbus level and supported by more than 100 manufacturers. One essentialcharacteristic of the AS interface is the use of a common two-wire bus for data transfer and the distribution ofauxiliary power to sensors and actuators. For this purpose, an AS power supply must be used that can fulfil therequirements for the transfer mode of the AS interface. In order to connect the devices a mechanically codedAS-interface profiled cable is used that is proof against reversal of polarity. By means of insulation displacementconnection technology any device may be connected without any need for insulation stripping tools. The ASinterface is used where individual actuators and sensors are distributed over a wide area of a machine or plantand a direct fieldbus connection has hitherto been impossible to implement either for technical reasons or forreasons of cost. It can do away with the need for the complex wiring of control cables and distributor panels.Service and maintenance requirements are also considerably reduced. Due to such possibilities for savings and

    its simple installation and commissioning, the actuator-sensor interface has already become a widely usedstandard in automatation technology. The modular AS interface training system contains a representative andeconomical select ion of AS-i devices. Industrial components are used exclusively and the devices are connectedin many cases using the original AS-interface profiled cable in order to advance the students' familiarity with theequipment and convey the necessary practical skills for its use.
