Background

ICIMOD has initiated a regional collaboration programme on transboundary

biodiversity landscape management in Brahmaputra-Salween landscape (BSL).

BSL is shared by China, India and Myanmar.

Experience sharing consultation, co-organized by ICIMOD and Kunming Institute of

Botany, at Tengchong, China in 2009.

Experts Consultation to Develop Future Strategic Programme for TBM and Climate

Change Adaptation was conducted Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar in December 2011.

ICIMOD Board of Governors Meeting held in Yangon, Myanmar in December 2013

and discussed the preparation of feasibility report for developing BSL conservation

and development initiative and signed RoD for feasibility report.

Location of BSL in Myanmar Located in northern part of Myanmar bordered with India and China Cover 64410 square kilometer including 5 Pas, Hkakaborazi NP, Hponkanrazi WS,

Bumphrabum WS, Hukaung Valley WS and Hukaung Valley WS (extension). Townships- Nawngmun, Putao, Machanbaw, Khaunglanphu, Sumprabum, Tanai,

Nanyun.

Topography and types of forest

Hill and mountainous area an elevation range from under 300 meters along thelow land to 5882 meters at the top of Mount Hkakaborazi, the highest mountainin the South East Asia.

Important watersheds for the Ayeyawady and Chindwin river. Sub-tropical rain forest, temperate rain forest, mixed deciduous forest, pinus-

rhododendron forest and alpine meadows.

Himalayan Landscape ( 16-18, Feb 2015 ) in Myanmar. Conservation workshop on Developing Livelihood Interventions for the Far Eastern

Himalayan Landscape ( 19-20, Feb 2015 ) in Myanmar. Pilot site had been choosed at the Mular-Namru watershed area between Hkakaborazi

NP and Hponkanrazi WS. Landscape journey to pilot site on 25-28, March 2016 together with FD, WCS, ICIMOD,
