Yr 6 Farewell MeetingYr 6 Farewell MeetingYr 6 Farewell Meeting

Don’t forget the Year 6 Farewell meeting for interested parents in Mrs Thompson’s room at 3pm this Wednesday 14th August.

You may remember we had a cake stall for the election last year and we were blown away by the range of fantastic cakes and goodies made by the students and families in our school community. We are planning to hold another one on election day (7th September) and also one for the school fete (11th October) and will be asking for contributions again.

You might choose to make a cake for one of the events and not the other which would be great, however if you can make something for both that would be amazing! We will be giving out cake boxes for families to put the cake in which can be brought to school the day be-fore, or even better, delivered to the stall on the day.

We will also be looking for volunteers to help out staffing the stall, so if you can spare an hour or two please let me know.

We are having our term working bee this Satur-day 17th August from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Please bring your energy and friends to help out in the gardens. We will be mulching and pre-paring beds for planting, cleaning up some dis-used garden beds and doing some harvesting. Erica

School Band SurveySchool Band SurveySchool Band Survey

The P&C would like to know the level of parent and student interest in establishing a school band.

School bands require a significant commitment of time and money for school families. The short parent survey (8 questions) will give the P&C and indication of whether or not estab-lishing a band program is a viable option at Mayfield East Public School. Thank you to Donna Manning who volunteered her time to draft the survey.

Please go to the school website and click the link to complete the survey or copy the follow-ing into your internet browser bar;

Thank you for your time,

Ben Blyth, Assistant Principal K-2

Last Week in Our Stephanie Alexan-der Kitchen Last week we learnt about weeds and pests in our garden and created ‘Wanted’ posters for these pests. We also planted seeds in trays in the kitchen, so we can watch these grow into seedlings. We plant-ed carrots, peas and cress seeds in old egg cartons. Thank you to all our students and families who have brought in jars and con-tainers for the kitchen.

Tropfest Jnr ‘Roughcuts’ Work-shop

I had the wonderful opportunity to take 10 students from Years 3-5 to a very special Tropfest Jnr workshop called ‘Roughcuts’. This was held in Sydney and we had to leave extremely early, 6am at the train sta-tion! It was so interesting meeting the film makers who have made different Tropfest movies. It was worth getting up really early to go to such a special workshop. Also a big thank you Chris Solowiej for getting up at the crack of dawn to help me on the excur-sion.

Tropfest Jnr by Ella 4/5T

“We will be making a movie to submit into the competition and it will be boys vs. girls. My favourite part of the day was watching all the Tropfest films. We learnt about film-ing using pocket cameras and we watched

a movie called ‘Mankind is No Island’. You could watch it on Youtube or look it up on Instagram #tropfestjnr.”

Tropfest Jnr by Daniel 4/5T

“Last Thursday all the kids who went to Tropfest really enjoyed it and learnt a lot about movie making. We got ideas from Toby Morris, Jason van Generen, Eddie White and Guy Gross. We learnt that you can copy a bit from all your favourite films and put them into one. You can also make a movie with just a phone or ipod. We watched lots of Tropfest movies such as ‘My Constellation’, ‘The Last Sundown’ and ‘Baby Opera’. “
