Kia Ora Everyone I am back in Mangakino after a short stint covering the gaps in Tokoroa, while I was there I attended quite a few Domestic Violence jobs and it got me thinking how good this small community is when it comes to Whanau and looking after one another. I hope that can continue, that we can all look out for each other and ensure that nobody comes to harm from something like Domestic Violence. I was also reminded of the role Alcohol plays in this. While most adults (and some cheeky teens) do enjoy a drink, it’s important to remember your limits. There is absolutely no shame in saying to your mates or family “Bro, I think you have had enough aye”. I guarantee that if you said that to a mate and it stopped them doing something they may regret, they will thank you in the morning. Again, it’s about looking after our Whanau, ensuring we all get home safe and

nobody does anything silly! Only a few weeks now till all our Winter Sports start kicking off as well, I am a Rugby League Referee in my spare time so expect to see me down at the Hawks games (most likely the man in pink blowing a whistle). I am sure most of our locals down there supporting will find their voice and question where the hell my glasses are?? And tell me “he’s been doing it all day ref!”, I can tell you all now that I have 20/20 vision so I don’t need any glasses! Seriously though I am really looking forward to seeing the community get behind them, they had a massive start to the season winning the Bay of Plenty League 9s tournament in Rotorua. Huge Achievement and well done to them. So get behind them, support them so they can continue to punch above their weight. While on the subject of rugby league congratulations to the COOPER, MARTIN and TE WHAITI whanau on the debut of Te Maire MARTIN for the Penrith Panthers a couple of weeks back. The after-hours Duty Dr is now based at the ‘GP FAST TRACK CLINIC’ based at the Main Entrance of the Tokoroa Hospital. SATURDAY ONLY: HOURS ARE FROM 10AM - 4PM, no appointment necessary.
