31. Count your blessings Introduce to the pupils by . . . Listening to the words of the song, Count your blessings from Out Of The Ark Music publications. Talking about the good things that have happened to them during the day or past week. Discussing how easy it is to dwell on the negative things in our lives, and what has gone wrong for us. Talking about the Christian view that our lives are full of blessings from God and that, at the end of each day, we can reflect on the day that is past, to give thanks for all the good things that have happened to us. What will the pupils do? Each day that the corner is on display, write or draw a blessing they have received on that day in the book. For each blessing recorded, make a plasticine ball/take a bead and add to the glass jar. Summarise Count the coloured balls or beads to determine the number of blessings recorded. Read some blessings from the book. Learn a song of thanks, i.e., O give thanks to the Lord. Background information for teachers Pupils will be encouraged to think positively about the events in their lives by contributing to a ‘Book of Thankfulness’. In Christian understanding, thankfulness is directed towards God, who gives and sustains life. It is a wholehearted response to the God who showers his people with gifts and blessings. 31. Count your blessings

Introduce to the pupils by . . . • Listening to the words of the song, Count your
