Above all, it’s about people wates.co.uk

NATIONAL IMPACT REPORT FOR LIVING SPACEWates Living Space reflects the values of the Wates Family with a market-leading approach to delivering real change for people and communities that exceeds the scope of the Social Value Act. We see our presence in communities as a catalyst to change lives and make a difference.

Our commitment to the communities in which we work is reflected in these national statistics, in which we have collected our achievements in 2017 to provide a snapshot of the lasting benefit that can be achieved when we and our partners work together.

APPRENTICESWates careers get off to a flying start by investing in trainees and apprentices that cover a wide range of trades, disciplines and careers. We work with regional providers, as well as our own dedicated Wates Apprentice Training Academy to match candidates to their best possible career path.

WORK EXPERIENCEWe work with schools, colleges and local training agencies to provide meaningful and informative work experience placements that introduce candidates to the full range of opportunities and benefits which the construction industry have to offer. Many of those attending our programs have pre-conceived notions of what a career in construction involves, and are unaware that their individual talents and creative skills may be highly valued. In this way, we empower our candidates to consider the construction industry as a career of first choice.

BUILDING FUTURESBuilding Futures was launched in 2005; our award winning two week accredited vocational training programme targets adults 19+, not in education, employment or training. It is delivered by our training provider, Ixion, and provides basic construction training underpinned with return to work skills, to prepare participants to make the transition into employment or training. All graduates receive six months support post programme to help find sustainable employment. To date over 1,030 people have completed the Wates Building Futures programme across the UK. Outcomes include:• BTEC Level 1 certificate in Construction• Health and Safety certificate• Asbestos Awareness certificate• The opportunity to sit their CSCS test (plus support with preparing for it)• The opportunity to visit a live Construction site• Increased confidence• A fully considered CV• The opportunity to participate in interviews with members of Wates supply chain.

CCS Wates is an associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which means all our sites are examples of best practice and a showcase for the construction industry. Our market-leading performance ensures Wates Managers are a regular feature at Considerate Constructors Scheme awards, as their outstanding efforts are recognised year after year.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISESWe promote Social Enterprises and invest in their use by ensuring at least 5% of our turnover is spent through these organisations. Our sponsorship of the Social Enterprise Brokerage, as well as our ground-breaking work on Seeing is Believing Tours open doors for these organisations by introducing our clients and partners to the benefits that Social Enterprises can provide.Wates also commit to using one social enterprise on each and every contract, which will support our pledge to spend £20m as a Group, with the sector by 2020.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTIONWates continues to demonstrate market-leading customer care performance, and 2018 has seen us re-accredited with TPAS membership for the fourth consecutive term. At Wates, our motto “above all it’s about people” defines both the way and the reason that we do business.
