The purpose of this stop press is to let you know about a trial we will be running at University Hospital Crosshouse to promote the use of reusable cups for hot drinks.

Reusable cups trial In conjunction with Zero Waste Scotland we are the first health board in Scotland to sign up to trial the use of reusable cups in one of our dining rooms. The trial will initially take place at University Hospital Crosshouse, with the view to rolling it out across the organisation, and all other Scottish health boards, if it is a success.

The trial is due to start on Monday 6 August, when members of staff based at University Hospital Crosshouse will get 10p off the price of a hot drink when using a blue reusable cup. Staff will also get every tenth drink free whenusing a loyalty card.

Before the trial starts, you can pick up your free reusable cup and loyalty card from catering staff in the dining room of University Hospital Crosshouse on:

• Thursday 2 August from 9.30am to 11.30amand from 12noon to 2pm

• Friday 3 August from 1.45pm to 6pm• Saturday 4 August from 10.30am to 2.30pm

When you come along to pick up your cup, please make sure you bring your photo ID badge. If you don’t manage to make it along to one of the dates above, cups and loyalty cards will still be available from the catering

office in the dining room until the end of the trial. If you lose or damage your cup, a replacement one will cost 50p. These will also be available from the catering office in the dining room.

From Monday 6 August to Monday 10 September 2018, every time you buy a hot drink from the dining room of University Hospital Crosshouse using your reusable cup, you will pay only £1 instead of £1.10. You will also get a stamp on your loyalty card.

Not only will you be saving money on every hot drink you buy, you will also be helping to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. Every year we send one million disposable cups to landfill from University Hospital Crosshouse alone.

There will also be single-use white cups available in the dining room during the trial. If you have a hot drink in one of these, you can still recycle it. However, your hot drink will cost £1.10.

During the trial period staff from Zero Waste Scotland will be visiting the dining room and chatting to staff to find out what you think of the idea and if it has been a success.
