JUNIORSRELIGION: This week we will start our new unit Celebrating With The People Of God. The children will begin by identifying objects which are important to them and reflect on why they are special to them. We will then brainstorm the special objects we see at Mass. READING: As this week is Book Week, we will be reading and reflecting on some of the shortlisted books for our shared reading. Many of our class activities this week will be about our responses to the different books read and linked to our love of reading. The junior grades are also looking forward to an informative presentation by the author/ illustrator Leigh Hobbs on Wednesday. WRITING: In Writing, we will continue to use the mystery box, class seed box, story starter cards and writer’s notebook to help generate ideas for individual pieces of writing. Many children are sharing the strategies they use when writing, such as how to stretch a word when faced with unknown spelling, while others are explaining how they have used the class resources to inspire their writing. SPELLING: We will be continuing to look at onset and rime patterns by building a class word list with the sound unk ( bunk, dunk ) and involving the children in a variety of activities to help reinforce the spelling and meaning of the words generated by the class. MATHS: We are continuing our unit of work on subtraction this week. The children will be involved in individual, partner and small group activities to help develop and consolidate their understandings about this concept.

In addition to all this, our concert rehearsals are in full flight - with much music, dancing and laughter echoing down the junior corridor.

What a fun and busy week!!
