3-types-of-teachers-on-wtd
DESCRIPTION
The impact teachers make in the life of a child cannot be quantified, therefore nothing should stand in our way to ensure we continually appreciate teachers irrespective of where they live or work. As the population of the World increases, efforts are geared towards ensuring children are enrolled in schools. However, we are running short of teachers. Many countries exceed the Teacher: Pupil ratio which ultimately has its downside on learning outcomes. Therefore, there is need for a change in orientation on “who a Teacher is or should be”. I believe we should proactively embrace the “3 types of Teachers concept”, which will greatly cater for the growing population of learners all over the world.TRANSCRIPT
3 TYPES OF TEACHERSON WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
World Teachers' DayWorld Teachers' Day, held annually on
October 5th since 1994, commemorates
teachers’ organizations worldwide. Its aim is to
mobilize support for teachers1 and to ensure
that the needs of future generations will
continue to be met by teachers2.
According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day
represents a significant token of the awareness,
understanding and appreciation displayed for
the vital contribution that teachers make to
education and development. wikipedia
The impact teachers make in the life of a child cannot
be quantified, therefore nothing should stand in our
way to ensure we continually appreciate teachers
irrespective of where they live or work.
Therefore, there is need for a change in orientation on
“who a Teacher is or should be”. I believe we should
proactively embrace the “3 types of Teachers concept”,
which will greatly cater for the growing population of
learners all over the world.
As the population of the World increases, efforts are
geared towards ensuring children are enrolled in
schools. However, we are running short of teachers.
Many countries exceed the Teacher: Pupil ratio which
ultimately has its downside on learning outcomes.
WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT? AVAILABILITYACCESSIBILITY
ACCEPTABILITYADAPTABILITY
According to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and
Cultural Rights (CESCR), there are four vital elements of the right
to education - AVAILABILITY, ACCEPTABILITY, ADAPTABILITY,
and ACCESSIBILITY (Amnesty International 2012).
In addition to these four, AFFORDABILITY should be given
consideration – my opinion though. The right to education, in
another sense, is the right to Teachers. Therefore, Teachers
need to also be AVAILABLE, ACCEPTABLE, ADAPTABLE,
ACCESSIBLE, and AFFORDABLE.
Is it possible for Teachers to be Accessible but not Available? The
answer is YES. The reality is that a Teacher may exist in say Lagos,
Nigeria but not available to Students in Accra, Ghana. This is one of
the several limitations in our teacher-student shortage.

Evidently, the demands for
Teachers cannot be met through
the traditional way of employing
Teachers.

HUMAN
TECHNOLOGY
NATURE
1. THE HUMAN TEACHER
Parents & Family members
Professional Teachers
Peers
Concerned individuals
Parents are the first teacher
every child first experience.
Some parents are efficiently
helping their children with
school work, but there is need
to get more Parents interested
in their child’s education.
One way is to INCENTIVIZE parents to
actively get involved in their child’s education.

This may sound absurd, but if we accept that a larger
chunk of the world’s population are illiterates and
therefore may not understand the importance of their
contribution in the knowledge chain of their children,
then we may see this a way forward.
Professional Teachers, Peers, and Concerned
individuals joining the army of educating Children
will go along way to address the shortage of
Teachers we currently face today.

WHILE A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER MAY BE
AVAILABLE, SHE MAY NOT BE ACCEPTABLE

THE PRINCIPAL FOCUS HERE IS:TURN EVERY PARENTS INTO PART-TIME TEACHERS
TURN EVERY CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS
INTO PART-TIME TEACHERS
MAKE PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS
MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE
2. THE TECHNOLOGY TEACHER
TECHNOLOGY
CBT
MOOC
I cannot start explaining how Technology has been beneficial
to everyone, the evidence speaks for itself. What we need to do
therefore is to employ technology in the quest to address the
imminent shortage of teachers.
CBT
MOOC
CBT stands for Computer Based Training.
Lectures can be pre-recorded and delivered
to Students in CD or loaded on computer to
be accessed anytime the need arises.
MOOC is the acronyms for Massive Open
Online Courses, of which majority are FREE
and are available on the Internet to
learners; anytime, anywhere, even now.
These courses are available on some Universities’ websites or third-
party providers who aggregate courses from several course providers
With CBT and MOOC, you can learn
from the BEST TEACHERS in the
world with a single click:
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, EVEN NOW!
The traditional means of learning restrict access to exchange of
knowledge to the classroom where communication holds only
when both parties – the Learner and the Learned – are
available and at an agreed time.
The exchange of information is between 1 Teacher to Many
but limited students. It is a matter of “You either get it or the
teacher leaves you behind”. Language could be a barrier, “my
Teacher must speak my language before he can lecture me”.

Available, Accessible,

and Affordable.

With the proliferation of Mobile and Smart phones, Mini tabs,
Laptops, Computer and of course access to the Internet; the
opportunity to provide Teachers for every school children is no
longer far reaching…it is happening already!
Get every school child a computer-like device, pre-
loaded with learning kits relevant to her educational
needs…you will worry less about physical teachers.
3. THE NATURE TEACHER
LIFE
ANIMAL
PLANT
BIOMIMICRY
Life itself is a Teacher…In fact, life is regarded as the Teacher of
Teachers. It is timeless, unchanging, unconventional and highly
inspiring.
Life will teach you Morals and give you Morale. By observing
the Naturals, you will learn of orderliness and perceive high
sense of organization, administration and purposefulness. Man
has mimic Nature to produce the most intelligent inventions,
this is what gives birth to the discipline, Biomimicry.
The Science that studies nature’s models
and then imitates or takes inspiration
from these designs and processes to
solve human problems.wikipedia
Everyone is exposed to Nature – Life, Animals, and Plants – and
by mere observation, each can take their learnings and adapt
to suit their needs.
The Bible once instructed, “Go to the Ants, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise! (Proverbs 6:6)”. Therefore, I
believe there are numerous of such learnings students can take
from Nature. However, the challenge lies in creating a learning
curriculum that will provide a structured outline for learning
from and through Nature – Life, Animals, and Plants.
THIS STRUCTURED LEARNING
CURRICULUM DOES NOT CURRENTLY
EXIST, BUT THE OPPORTUNITY
REMAINS THAT LIFE IS A TEACHER OF
SOME SORTS.
It will take the effort and commitment of concerned
professionals in the field of Biological Sciences & Humanities to
document a learning curriculum that will help Student to learn
from Nature.
With the aid of Technology, this documented curriculum can
be packaged and delivered to learners in form of CBT or
MOOC. For instance – there can be a topic on Organization,
Planning, and Responsibility with Ants as a case study:
A RECORDED DOCUMENTARY OF
HOW ANTS ORGANIZES, PLANS, AND
TAKES RESPONSIBILITY WILL DRIVE
HOME THE MESSAGE…SINCE ANTS
ARE EVERYWHERE…THAT MAKES
TEACHERS TO BE EVERYWHERE!

LEARNING NEVER ENDS
AS LONG AS YOU OPEN
YOUR MIND TO IT.

ENOUGH
TEACHERS
If our Institutions, Governments and concerned NGO commits
to raising Teachers in these 3 Perspectives; after a while, we
would have every child enrolled in school because teachers will
be waiting for them everywhere, anytime, even now!
