This photo compilation was an assignment given where I had to combine 5 photos into an outdoors landscape theme. I was given stock photos, but the landscape was created from three photos that I photographed myself. Adjustments had to be done to assure that the photos were accurately masked (including submasking) and levels were adjusted with special attention paid to the tonal and contrast values along with shadows. The challenges were the white in the girl’s white shirt that needed to be submasked and the unusual light source created from where dim sunlight was shining through the trees as opposed to places where there is open field. The biggest challenge to adding in different photo elements was the light source because it meant that various objects would need to be brighter even when things in front of it might be darker.

One of my favorite assignments due to the nostalgic personal history was restoring old family photos. There were a couple done over the course of the class, but I decided to include this one of my grandfather when he was younger and in the navy. The class required restoration due to the rips, especially near the face. However, I took it a step further. I felt a strong urge to add color, because most of my family did not know him until he was an old man so adding color brought life and personality to an otherwise mysterious character.

Kid CaveHosted by The Goddard School

Staffed by professional, licensed pre-school teachers (courtesy of The Goddard School), the Oddmall Kid Cave is a cool place to hang out for kids of all ages (well, ages 4 and up, anyway). There are all sorts of games, crafts, movies and other exciting and enriching diversions to keep the tykes busy while their parents are wandering the halls of Oddmall getting into all sorts of trouble.

The Kid Cave is located at the end of the Concourse near Stage 2 and next to the Comic & Toy Expo. A photo ID and cell phone number are required when dropping off your kids. Each kid will get a wristband featuring their last name and their parents’ cell phone number, just in case they wiggle free. Yes indeed, the Oddmall Kid Cave truly is a realm of adventure, fun, and wonder.

This brochure was created as a class assignment for a convention that occurs in Cincinnati, called the Oddmall Convention. I designed a layout that listed the times of events with a short passage about the childcare facility and created “odd” themed illustrations.
