  • Composite District Cross Country

Iona College hosted the Composite District Cross Country trials

last Friday afternoon. With ideal running conditions, some of our

squad runners used this as an opportunity to get an extra

training run in. There were some outstanding races and

individual performances on the day. Congratulations to the

athletes who made the District team. I would like to thank the

staff and the numerous Year 11 students who volunteered as

    course marshalls for the afternoon.

This Cup is played for by the 1st teams of Marist College Ashgrove

and Iona College: cricket, volleyball, rugby union, chess, football,

basketball, tennis and water polo. Results in open swimming,

cross country and track and field are taken into account if there

is a draw in the 8 sports contested. With the annual cricket and

volleyball games cancelled, both Colleges head into the winter

fixtures equal. In honour of the special bond between the

Oblates of Mary Immaculate (St Eugene de Mazenod) and the

Society of Mary (St Marcellin Champagnat), we respectfully

celebrate these games as both Colleges’ Founders had a great

devotion to Mary and both were from rural France.

On the May long weekend, a team of

Iona sailors and their families travelled

to Lake Cootharaba to participate in

the Jack Holt Regatta. This was the

first time that Iona has participated in

this event and it was great for the

boys to get more sailing experience.

The boys had a busy schedule with 3

races on Saturday and 4 races on

Sunday. The boys sailed very well

under the coaching of Alexander Dunstan and with his guidance

you could see the boys improving from race to race.

    Results

Bailey Lucock / Finn Meehan 4th place

at the Wynnum Tennis Centre. Students need to register their

7-12) at a meeting at lunch on Thursday.

Years 5 / 6 meet in Year 5 eating area

    Years 7 – 12 meet in B7

If you are not able to attend the meeting, you need to make

contact with the respective coordinator before the end of this

week. Championships will run this Sunday as follows:
