ADULT FORMATION: Scripture Study continues TODAY at 9:15 a.m. The Revised Common Lectionary graciously appoints three readings (with a Psalm) each Sunday. During the Lenten Sunday liturgies, we will be hearing a Gospel reading and one lesson from either the Old or New Testaments. The third lesson appointed for the day—the one not read in the service—will be explored during Adult Formation class time each Sunday. A New Theology of Hope

“So what of the hope of the nonpoor, the nonvictims? I believe Jesus’ resurrection can indeed generate hope for them, for us. But on two conditions, the first has to do with the reality of the nonvictims… they must participate, even if only analogously, in the reality of the victims, so that their death is in some way like that of Jesus, on a cross… The second has to do with our subjectivity: how is it possible to overcome the scandal of death, which seems to put an end to all hope, whether we are poor or nonpoor? The response is inescapably personal. But we can suggest a way: to face up to the greater scandal of the injustice that already brings death to the victims and to try to concur it through our life choices.”

The Rev. Kelly Demo has been an itinerant preacher for 15 of her 17 years of ordained ministry, first traveling the dioceses of Kansas and Arkansas as Cannon for Youth and then, for the past seven years, as an advocate for two different international aid organizations. Her passion for this work began when she lived for a year in Sierra Leone, West Africa teaching at an agricultural training center. Since then she has traveled to many South and Central American countries to listen and learn from the stories of those living the reality of poverty. She currently works for Children International as a facilitator and fundraiser. She lives with her husband, Gar, also an Episcopal priest, along with

their two practically perfect children, Riley (13) and Asher (9).
