Special CoatingsCorrosion protection coatings of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE), Two Pack Wet Spray Epoxy and Hot Dipped Galvanizing are available. Cement Mortar Lining is also applied in house at Thomas Pipe Products on traditional plain ended of flanged steel fittings.

Specialized Socketed FittingsAs a manufacturer of Pipe Couplings, we are able to offer socketed fittings. A socketed fitting is a abricated steel fitting with a socketed end. The socketed end consists of a self contained ‘half coupling’. Half couplings are suitable for rigid pipe materials. Plain ended pipe materials such as PVC, GRP and Ductile Iron can easily be connected using socketed fittings.

Fabricated Steel Fittings

PLAIN ENDED FITTINGS are standard steel pipe specials that are plain ended.

FLANGED FITTINGS are standard steel pipe specials that are flanged.

SOCKETED FITTINGS are standard steel pipe specials that include half a wide tolerance Unifit coupling welded to the ends of the fitting.

SHOULDERED FITTINGS are standard steel pipe specials that incorporate shouldered Victaulic ends as per SANS 815.

Dimensional Detail of Standard FittingsThe tables below list standard dimensional details for fabricated steel fittings. Special fittings of any size and configuration are available on request. The dimensions provided for Flanged fittings are equal for plain ended and shouldered fittings.

Corrosion Protection CoatingSeveral corrosion protection coatings are available on request, standard coatings available include:

- Fusion Bonded Epoxy thermoset power - SANS1127- Hot Dip Galvanizing - BS 729- Solvent Cure Epoxy - such as COPON KSIR88 to SANS1200

Socketed Steel Fitting

Half Coupling

Socketed FittingsSocketed fittings are suitable for all pipes including PVC, AC, Ductile Iron and Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) where traditional fittings of this material are either not available or very expensive. The Thomas Socketed Fitting offers an inexpensive and simple solution for providing high quality special fittings for pipelines of these materials.

Available RangeFrom Dn40mm - Dn1600mm.Standard Working pressure WP up to PN40 as specified by the customer. Test Pressure = 1.5 x WP.

Advantages of a Socketed FittingAs a coupling manufacturer, Thomas Pipe Products can manufacture half couplings for welding onto steel pipe fittings. The half couplings can accommodate any rigid pipe material. Therefore, socketed fittings can be manufactured for any rigid pipe material. This not only ensure ease of jointing to all common pipe materials such as steel, concrete, Ductile Iron, PVC, GRP, Cast Iron and Asbestos Cement, but it offers substantial cost savings to the customers by negating the need for separate couplings.

Socketed fittings offer users the full benefits of the Thomas Unifit Coupling. This includes a wide working tolerance, ease of installation, guaranteed sealing and corrosion protection. Dissimilar pipe materials such as PVC, GRP and Ductile Iron can be joined with a combination fitting. The fittings are simple to use and install, the contractor need only push the pipe into the half coupling and tighten the bolts.

It is possible to manufacture half couplings for GRP pipe where the OD of the pipe varies dramatically from the OD of the steel pipe fitting, thus negating the need for expensive step couplings that often require external restraint.

DesignIn order to reduce pipeline turbulence through a half coupling, it is imperative that the half coupling exhibits a smooth tapered transition. Therefore NO PROFILE PATES are permitted.

NOTE:When designing a pipeline incorporating Half Coupling products, the design engineer must specify that profile plates are NOT permitted in the design and construction of half couplings.
