¿Qué hora es?What time is it?

Telling time in Spanish is easy as long as you know your numbers. For one o’clock, the phrase is “Es la una.” It’s different from other times because it is singular, so it is “es” instead of “son” and “la” instead of “las.” All other

times are “Son las _____” and insert the number for whatever hour it is.

Es la una.It’s one.

Son las dos.

It’s two.

When referring to minutes, adding “y” (and) followed by the number of minutes past the hour. You can also use phrase such as “y media” (half past) or “y cuarto” (a quarter past). You can also use “menos cuarto” for a

quarter till.

y _(numero)__ y media – and a half (30 minutes)

y cuarto - a quarter past

de la mañana - in the morning (am)

de la noche - at night (pm)
