The biggest difference between struggling

math students and on-level students is their

understanding of basic concepts and skills.

Without these math building blocks solidly in

place, there’s no way struggling students can

achieve their maximum potential in math.

The AMP™ Math System is a math intervention

program for middle and early high school

students who are 1–2 levels below grade level,

spanning skills from the third to the eighth

grade. AMP works with any math program to

catch students up on basic math skills, so they

don’t fall further behind.

AMP works because it provides a proven,

research-based instructional model to support

struggling students, resulting in two years

growth in one instructional year!

1. AMP focuses on core math concepts

students need to know.

2. AMP provides intensive problem-solving

practice that develops math fluency.

3. AMP offers reading support to help students

better comprehend math problems.

The AMP Teacher’s Edition clearly identifies the NCTM Curriculum Focal Points struggling students need to know for that grade.

Unit 1 introduces six different problem-solving strategies:• Draw a Picture or Use a Model• Find a Pattern• Make a List• Try a Simpler Form of the Problem• Make a Table or a Chart• Guess, Check, and Revise

Students use those six problem-solving strategies to learn new math skills.

If students are having trouble reading the problem, they are unable to solve the problem. Students work on reading skills and strategies to help them become better problem solvers.

AMP Link™ magazine uses high-interest, nonfiction selections to pose mathematical problems. These problems connect to the skills and strategies taught in the Student Guide.

➊ AMP is based on the NCTM Curriculum Focal Points.

➋ AMP uses problem-solving strategies to frame all the practice in the program.

➌ AMP focuses on improving students’ reading ability.

Explicit, step-by-step instruction follows the framework detailed by the NCTM Curriculum Focal Points.
