METROLOGY :- Metrology is science of measurements. Scientific Study of measurements is called metrology. Metrology is not concerned to length measurement but also concerned with industrial inspection.

Practice of metrology involves precise measurement. Metrology is mainly concerned with,

i. Establishing the unit of measurements.

ii. Developing methods of measurement.

iii. Researching into the causes of measuring errors and eliminating these.

2

TOPICS,NOTES (Brief) With teacher student activities

Key points/Reminders/Sketch Teaching Aids/Evaluation

Objectives of Metrology:- The basic objective is to provide the accuracy at minimum cost.

1. Thoroughly evaluation of newly

developed product.

2. To determine process capabilities.

3. To determine measurement

instruments capabilities.

4. To minimize the cost of inspection.

5. Standardization of measuring

methods.

6. Maintenance of accuracies of

measuring instruments.

Testing & Follow Up:- (to see if leaner accompanied information or skill)

History of Measurements:- It is well known saying that knowledge about anything is complete only when it is expressed in numbers and same thing is known about it. Four thousand years ago the parts of human body. Later on, they were standardized.

Science of measurement has made considerable progress when king Henry decided that yard is the distance from point of his nose to the end of his thumb. In 1929 at a meeting of international commission of weight and measure, a universal standard of measurement was approved.

Importance of Measurement:- Measurement is very important in today life. Quality and quantity can never be achieved without measurement. Measurement play key role in quality control without measurement. We cannot know about product whether according to size or not.

1. We need measurement to make

thing with our design or other design.

2. We need measurement to control quality.

3. We need measurement for scientific description.
